Looking to roll three lines

Created by: GiggywithGibby
Team: 2024-25 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 24, 2023
Published: Dec. 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Chase one of Nylander/Reinhart in FA, run Carlsson/Zegras/McTavish down the middle for three scoring lines.

Having excess center depth is great, but this roster relies on the youth continuing to take steps and grow. Would draft a RHD in the 2024 draft who would be expected to become Mintyukovs running mate long term.

Tried to spread scoring out over 3 lines with a support/puck digger/ net front pest, playmaker, and sniper on each line.

  1. Lundeström, Isac [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Lundestrom is a player I feel could work very well in the AVS system, he's a fast skater and a defensively responsible center who's good at extending plays, and is clutch in the faceoff circle. However, the center depth in Anaheim pushes him out of the middle six role he's cut out for, and he doesn't have the size to be the 4C that verberk likely wants. He's a natural C and his play suffers at the wing.

ANA
  1. Dellandrea, Ty [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I've liked Ty as a bottom 6 piece, but on a stacked Dallas roster he seems to keep ending up on the outside looking in. One of the reasons I like him is that he's a pest that gets under players skins, something I'd like at 4C, and could play up to 3C as needed. Since he's on the outside again on a contract year his acquisition cost shouldn't be too high, as Dallas will likely opt to fill the depth roles with internal options.

Like the Dellandrea trade. Solid kid for a building team, and gives Dallas cap flexibility. Dallas also has 5 kids that could come up from a depth perspective, so works for both sides. Dells needs to play, and Dallas can’t keep guys like Stankoven down much longer.

Yeah, I think Dellandrea has just run out of runway in Dallas, not unlike Steel did in Anaheim. There's a pack of guys right behind him hoping to push people off the main roster and he's just not cementing his spot. I think he'd fit better in Cronin's system as well, I like that he has a great motor and plays with snarl, i've been a fan of his game for a while. Would be a natural Carrick replacement.

Sensible moves, you can have Peeke for less though. Honestly, Anaheim might be the only team with interest that's able to take the full contract, so you could probably get him for a 7th a la Robinson.

I have thought about Lundestrom on the Avs. Not sure I'd pay quite that much, but it's not a totally unreasonable ask.

Part of his issue is that he's a playmaking defensive center who really needs wingers that stick with him in order to put up points. He's been deployed as our 3C for quite a while, but that means playing him with the offensive black hole that is Silfverberg. When he starts in the defensive end by the time they have possession and he goes streaking down the ice his linemates are peeling off for a change and he gets left carrying the puck by himself. Colorado has a lot more talent on the wings than Lundestrom got to play with in Anaheim, we never seem to be able to figure wingers out (Centers, defense, and goaltending we can churn out like no tomorrow, but wingers for whatever reason we are clueless). I really think he'd be a good fit there and who knows, he might be work himself into that 2C spot.

Alright I'm sold. Let's call it in!

Any interest in Olausson? He hasn't quite developed as hoped, but I see him as a good fit in Anaheim. Winger too. Olausson and a later pick maybe?

I don't know, RW is a need, but the guy looks like he's having trouble putting it together at the AHL level, unless there's something AVS fans know that I don't about his ability to push onto an NHL roster.

Lundestrom out and Dellandrea in feels like standing in place, one step forward with one step back.

I like the three lines concept but Jones and Strome are both square pegs in those round holes. Jones doesn't have the offense to be in the top six and Strome doesn't play both sides of the puck well enough. Maybe it works regardless, but those are the weak links for sure.

They won't bring in Peeke. They'll let Zellweger, Helleson and Luneau fight over that spot.

My thoughts on Dellandrea is that he'd be better suited to 4C than Lundestrom is because he plays with a lot more bite and physicality. He seems a natural replacement for Carrick and it may be a situation of being a late bloomer that he could start to force his way further up the lineup (took him a while to get going in the AHL too)

As for Peeke, he's cheap to acquire and would be easy to move out for a rookie if need be, but I've made mention of it in several of my ACGMs, I'd rather let the rookies over marinate in the AHL until their waivers exemption expires before bringing them up. I think Zellweger is going to take a couple years to develop his defensive game, and I'd like to try and get Fowler off the roster before he comes up. I know Luneau has played some this season on the main roster but I don't think Verbeek is going to burn a slide year as he's only at 7/9 games, he'll be headed back to Juniors for the rest of the year, and I think he'd benefit strongly from a couple seasons in the AHL.

The counter to Peeke is cheap is that you can find a guy like that available any time. You can give the kids a shot at the spot and if they don't earn it then bring in a back up plan. In some ways it's easier to get a guy during camp/pre-season on waivers or a team looking to clear a bit of cap.

I'm not super fussed about the idea either way. I just don't believe that Verbeek will do that trade given how he's handled the defense this year. That opinion could change, there is a lot of season left to play for Zellweger and Helleson. I agree Luneau should be back in the Q after his infection stuff is past which is unfortunate as he's too good for the Q. I have a hard time imagining that kid in the AHL next year though.

I’m among the crowd that want nothing to do with Max Jones.
Line wise id probably still put Zegras on the wing rather than pushing McTavish down to the 3rd line.

I think you may have missed the main point I was trying to make about rolling three equal scoring lines rather than having a top 6 and bottom 6. This would be a top 9 and an energy line setup. Whichever line is hot gets more time or "moved up" the lineup.

As to Z to the wing, I really think he plays his best hockey at center. As to Jones, he's on that line as the support piece, but I also signed him cheaply enough to push him back into the bottom 6 when better wingers develop and push onto the roster. He also seemed to elevate McTavish & Terry last season when he was playing up at end of year, so I kept him with Terry for the synergy.
