What an actual Huberdeau to Montreal trade would look like

Created by: Campabee
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2023
Published: Dec. 29, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For Flames fans trying to move Huberdeau to Montreal, we don't want or need him so he would be a strict cap dump. We don't need to move Anderson or Gallagher to make room so we aren't adding 1sts so just stop adding them from our side. You are the ones that want Huberdeau gone and keep sending him to Montreal like you think we will pay anything you want for him, we'll time to face facts, we don't want him!

That’s excessive. How about Huberdeau for Gallagher and Anderson?

Even that isnt enough.

He is the 11th highest cap hit in the league signed to a full term contract that just started that is close to buyout proof

Not remotely close. Habs easily decline.

Huberdeaus buyout is 67 million. Gallagher and anderson combined is less than 25

Still costs 2 1sts even if both Anderson and Gallagher were added, Huberdeau is signed twice as long as both them and more importantly we dont need to move either of them

(I was kidding…I read the blurb).

Calgary is not going to have cap trouble for a couple of years, so unlikely they pay to move him. He is just got to figure it out.

(I don’t have any other solution)

I can’t see Calgary trading Huberdeau and a handful of draft picks to Montreal.
No thanks.

Give him a couple of years. If not working, he probably ends up on LTIR.

Think about it this way, Huberdeau is paid 10.5 mil his current scoring pace is .43 ppg over an 82 game season that means he will score about 35 points. 10.5 mil ÷ 35 is a whopping $300,000/point, Anderson has a scoring rate of .32 ppg and is paid 8 mil this year over the course of an 82 game season Anderson will put up about 27 points 8 mil ÷ 27 is $296,296/point. Gallagher's numbers almost mirror Anderson's. That means Huberdeau = Anderson's scoring rate but is signed twice as long. So here is the question, would you rather pay Anderson 16 mil for 4 years (Gallagher's + Anderson's combined salary) or 10.5 mil for 8 years?

I don't think they should be trying to trade him either since the price to trade him will be significantly more than Edmonton trading Campbell, this was just an exercise to show how much it would cost since some Flames fans keep trading him to the Habs lol

And a first and two seconds. And I would do it. Anderson frankly sucks. His value is up right now but he has no hands… we need elite playmakers to unlock the value of Slaf and caufield and maybe huberdeau can find it again

Huberdeau is playing at Anderson's level and you want to pay him 2.5 mil more per season, for twice as long?! Thanks but no thanks! Basically you would end up paying Anderson 84 mil over 8 years instead of paying Anderson and Gallagher 64 mil over 4 years and having twice the points output

I would rather have Huberdeau today, as I think he has good chance of being a 60-80 point winger again.

But with Tanev, Hanifin, Lindholm, others getting shipped out, they should have cap to be patient.

This is why these achm forums are so moronic. Huberdeau scored 115 points two years ago and for much of his career was an electric playmaker - which the Habs desperately need. Something obviously isn’t working in Calgary and it’s possible a change of scenery will get the wheels turning again. Josh Anderson is a stone handed pilon who couldn’t score 115 points with the net empty for 2 periods every game of the season. It’s not complicated - Anderson will NEVER be worth his deal or potentially be a game breaker. Gallagher is also just done and too banged up and will never even remotely approach his contract value. Dump em, get a few high picks back and roll the dice. Cap is going up anyway.

Montreal fans are every bit as crazy as Leafs fans the only difference is there aren't quite as many of them posting absurd trades.

It is possible, maybe even probable that he hits 60-80 points again but it's also possible that this is just the natural decline of an aging player that was racking up points by playing on Barkov's wing for years. The move to Calgary messed up that chemistry, hopefully he finds someone to play with that will have a similar impact on his game but that's the rub, he may never find that chemistry again.

Huberdeau didn't play on Barkov's wing. They were on different lines. In his 115 point season former Flame Sam Bennet was his center.

Look at the last Flames fan proposing Montreal trade Anderson + Armia + Beck + Price + Primeau + 2 1st round picks for Markstrom and Huberdeau and tell me that isn't a delusional ask from the Flames. Habs aren't trying to contend and therefore have 0 interest in trading what equates to 2 high 1st round picks + 2 2nd round picks to get a worse contract than Anderson's and Armia's combined back and carry 3 good NHL 1B goalies in Montembeault, Allen and Markstrom! That is just stupid from a rebuilding teams perspective

Comsidering the money involved, this trade is way less absurd than all the "Huberdeau for Anderson" trades around here.

The general consensus isn't that we can't trade Huberdeau. Obviously we wouldn't do this trade or any other involving Anderson or Gallagher. Dallas was able to retool with Benn and Seguin underperforming.

Calgary's issue is drafting and asset management. Huberdeau's contract is what it is... Making idiotic moves to fix it isn't going to help.

The value isn't in the players it's in the salary difference and contract length difference. It's 11.85 mil over 2 years vs 84 mil over 8 years, this saves the Flames 72.15 mil and takes away 6 years of wasted cap

Sorry Craig Conroy isn't giving up 3 1st and 3 2nd round picks to move Hubby, No GM is that stupid.
