Montreal Kuz

Created by: SGB88
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 31, 2023
Published: Dec. 31, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming the rumours are true that Montreal wants Kuz. I get that Montreal fans say they don't want him, but if management wants him, this is a potential trade.

- Kuz is probably worth around 1st, maybe a little less due to some distress on value.
- other Canucks pieces do not need to be included, but probably have low pick value probably a 5th PDG and a 6-7th for Friedman.
-I don't see Dvorak's contract having any real value at his cap hit, if anything, it's negative.
- Monahan is probably worth a 2nd at most. His injury history depresses his value for sure.
- Kovacevic is probably worth a 3rd at most.
- the cost of 1 and a bit years of 2.5m of LTIR shouldn't be very high, probably a late-round pick.

Canucks don’t do this

Kuz > Monahan

Dvorak has negative value with his contract

Kovacevic is only worth about a mid round pick, not enough to make up the difference

MTL-VCR trade rumour is completely fake.
No way Montreal is trading their good players, and the same for Vancouver.

Habs would want at least one piece they can use in mid-to-long term if they trade two useful pieces.

Montreal acquiring a player that is a pending UFA next year, only makes sense if it is based around a player Montreal no longer wants.
They aren't giving up Monahan or Kovacevic for someone they may only have for one season where they may not even make the playoffs.
Dvorak or Gallagher + pick(s) for Kuzmenko would make sense. A player that has no future in Montreal or a player that Montreal would like to move on from even if it means getting nothing substantial.
That probably doesn't make sense from Vancouver's perspective so I don't see a deal to be made around Kuzmenko.

Sorry, I'm struggling with this one. Doesn't seem like a good fit for either team. Kuzmenko on pace for 20 goals and 50 points based on current stats. Not sure why Canucks would be in a hurry to move him.

I think its a whole lot of media spin to pump the ratings in a quiet couple of weeks. Media has a habit of quoting one anothers "thoughts" as if it was fact. Typically a lot of hot air i.e Friedman.

Well of course that makes sense for MON. Both Dvorak and Gallagher have fairly significant negative value and term (especially Gallagher), who wouldn't trade one of them for a positive valued player... I don't think MON would want to include the picks required to get that trade done.

I agree with the second part of your post, probably not a fit for either team.

That was the entire point of the post. I was only breaking down why.

Personally, I prefer Monahan to Kuzmenko. I don't know why Montreal would trade Monahan for a only 2 years younger guy and way more expensive. Montreal needs attackers between 18 and 23 years old

You are severely undervaluing Monahan, you say Kuzmenko is worth a 1st cause he is on pace for 20 goals and 50 points but Monahan plays a more desirable position (Center) is elite in FO% and is on pace for the exact same totals is only worth a 2nd?! That is completely biased and unrealistic, the struggles of Kuz this year balances out the injury risk value wise and then add to it his faceoff prowess and more crucial position and its the Canucks that are getting the better end of the deal in a 1 for 1 swap. Dvo might not be someone the Canucks would want to acquire but he still has value around the league and Kovacevic is a good 3-4 D man on a really cheap contract and worth a 2nd to any contender.

I like Kovacevic but he’s not a #3/4 dman. He’s a #6/7 dman. Even on a cheap contract he’s not worth a 2nd, closer to a 4th imo

Then you have no idea who he is or what he is worth cause he is a middle pairing D man capable of 20+ minutes a night on a very, very team friendly deal

He’s not even playing 20+ minutes a night on a bottom 10 team in the league. He’s a solid depth dman but not a 2nd pair guy

Exactly, I don't think Montreal fans don't want him. He's a good player. They just dont want to pay for a player at his lowest value. He's a winger that had an unsustainable shooting percentage last year and has come back down to reality. You can find these kind of players in free agency instead of a center or RHD at an inflated price. Montreal simply isnt ready to buy as well.

I also rather have the center that gives it his all and just turned 29 with just as much skill that already fits on the team. Kuz is a wild card,
