Initial Creation Date: Jan. 15, 2024
Published: Jan. 15, 2024

Description
Too wild?

New York gets a depth RD at under league min for this year and next. They get a forward upgrade for their top 9 but he is a pending UFA. They also get a depth forward who is young and works really hard. Montreal get a former 2nd overall pick who is struggling offensively but has shown some good defensive awareness.

Edmonton get a big, brushing, competitive RD for this year and next at a good cap hit. Montreal take their chances with Broberg.

Anaheim get a top 10 pick, A good young RD with potential and a good forward prospect. Montreal get a young, super high potential, star forward, who is struggling.

Ducks decline. Their biggest needs are elite wingers and #1RD. No reason to move an elite winger (something we need more of) for pieces that don’t address one of those needs

Think Slaf, Reinbacher, or mayyyyybe the ‘24 1st rd pick if it ends up being high and there’s someone at the pick that Verbeek covets. That wouldn’t happen until the draft though, not TDL

This would more than likely be a draft deal. I agree with you there.

it looks like trading a top 10 pick, all our right shot D, a decent prospect, our biggest trade deadline chip and Jesse Ylonen for two busts and a flashy 2C

Broberg and Kakko are both 22 years old. To call them busts already is a bit crazy. Kakko has actually been extremely good defensively. But neither guy is living up to their draft spots, that's for sure.

As for the right shot D thing.... You are trading them for this year sure. You have like 47 more of them waiting in the minors and you can sign one UFA as well to help compliment them. I am sure they would rather trade Harris over Baron though.

Neither Habs fans nor Rangers fans will like the Kakko deal. The Rangers don’t need an RHD, so Kovacevic holds little/no value to them, and Monahan provides value that the Rangers don’t need - they already have really good special teams, what they need is a 5v5 producer with speed. Ylonen is fine but he doesn’t replace the defensive value that Kakko provides in the lineup.

The Rangers have assets to give up that won’t leave a hole in their lineup. That is a lot of value coming from the Habs side, but this deal is not a good fit.

Great because Anaheim doesn’t accept this regardless

Maybe the habs do that for Kakko, I don't know enough about him (why hasn't he broken out yet - will he?). I like Kovacevic probably more than he is valued in this trade.

Habs don't do that Savard trade they have no interest in Broberg.

I wouldn't do that trade for Zegras, I'd just keep the top 10 pick (which could be as valuable as Zegras with a little patience) and Barron who could be a partner for Guhle in the top 4 for many years. Plus habs could utilize cap savings of $5M by not acquiring Zegras in any way they see fit.

You left 1 RHD and added LHD, last thing MTL should consider. Pass on Zegras trade.

I'm shocked Ducks fans are rejecting this deal. It's a top 10 pick and two solid prospects

It's not like Zegras' stock has been rising this year.
