      I’d accept that.

      4th for Mrazek
      3rd to dump Vitek

      Works imo

Arizona got a 3rd to retain 25% on Kane last year, which is less than 50% of Lindholm. So long story short you're not getting a 2nd to retain 50% on Lindholm

He got a new contract. 2 more year after this one at 4.25 which is a number the devils can’t afford to pay for Dickinson

Kane's base salary last season was only $2.9M. The deadline is is about 2/3's of the season. $2.9M X 2/3 = $1.9M, $2.9M - $1.9M = $1M, and 25% of $1M is $250K. Kane was only owed $250K by AZ. Lindholm's base salary for this season is $4.85M. Which means, if this trade is at the deadline, and CHI retains 50%, that would leave CHI liable for $825K. That is more than what Kane was owed.

You conveniently ignore the fact that the Rangers are getting a 4th back which is likely to be early in the round.

Hawks accept the 1st, 3rd and 4th proposals, decline the 5th (would depend on who the players are) and I honestly don’t know enough about the Avalanche prospect to offer an educated opinion on that proposal.

Yep. Good to see him rewarded for his quality play this year, but it means he’s not a devils target anymore.

Onto Trenin and Duhaime imo for that role

Kane's base salary last season was only $2.9M. The deadline is is about 2/3's of the season. $2.9M X 2/3 = $1.9M, $2.9M - $1.9M = $1M, and 25% of $1M is $250K. Kane was only owed $250K by AZ. Lindholm's base salary for this season is $4.85M. Which means, if this trade is at the deadline, and CHI retains 50%, that would leave CHI liable for $825K. That is more than what Kane was owed.

Let's go back to 2022. Max Domi's salary was $6M. (with a cap hit of $5.3M). Florida retained half when he was traded to Carolina. $6M x 2/3= $4M, $6M-$4M=$2M, 25% of $2M is $500k.

His retention was traded for a 6th round pick and the rights to Yegor Korshkov, who was unsigned and is still in Russia.

Cap > real money to teams like the Rangers, and nobody has ever gotten a 2nd solely for retention. Don't care if you attach a 4th, doesn't make it worth it.

Still not worth the difference imo. Even in some bizarro world where the Rangers win the cup and say the Blackhawks finish dead last, that's still 32 picks apart. Pick 64 is worth double the value (in Game Score Value Added) as pick 97, so not worth it. Let's say the actual value is worth a 3rd for retention, based on precedent. The Rangers (or potentially Dallas') 3rd is not covering the difference in this scenario lmao.[/quote]

I am very familiar with that trade and I've already had this debate about it multiple times. But, you've wasted your time. Completely different situations. There are more comps that say different than that, and the market and teams involved are entirely different and in completely different situations. A single trade from two years ago is not the end all be all of 3rd party retention trades. Especially not one where the team trading Domi was desperate to do so, if you recall the headlines surrounding his availability and disappointment with his play. I can guarantee you that no team is doing that this year. Especially not after what AZ charged last year to retain far less on Kane, among other comps.

Also, I can almost guarantee they were under the impression that Korshkov was going to sign with them.
