Makes sense, he’s kept up his scoring. A 1st and mid tier pick or prospect makes sense based on prior trade deadline prices.

Nearly half those points on Montreal’s first power play unit. Do you think he replaces Zib, Kreider, or Panarin?

Now go beyond points scored. Lindholm is a center who has recently received Selke votes. He contributes on both ends of the ice and there isn't a team in the league who would feel uncomfortable playing him as their 2C. Novak plays 4 minutes less a night than Monahan yet isn't all that far behind him in scoring, Novak actually outscores Monahan on a /60 basis. Novak is younger, less injury prone, has a more friendly cap hit, is someone a team would look at keeping around, etc. Monahan is at the very least a worse option than those 2. How many teams are you expecting to pay 1st round picks for a center who's proper place is probably a 3C and one that can't play defense at that. Are there 4+ teams with serious enough interest in centers to drive up the price of the 3rd best option to a 1st round pick?

We all know, there's no point entertaining the futile argument anymore. When the trade finally happens, no matter what the return, everyone will tell you it was an overpay too. Guaranteed. I can't wait to find out which lucky fanbase gets to complain about it.

Then add on that the other 2 aren't expected to return a 1st...

I'm not sure if you are just using the Rangers as an example but we won't be giving up a 1st for him. Chytil started practicing with the team again. No need to trade for a center now

TBH, I said Dubois for a 1st, a good prospect and Dvorak @50% retention...

Pretty close value if I do say so myself

I'm so tired of this PP argument. Since when points are bad? Is Ovi worthless because he get a lot of PP points? Would he be useless for a contender?

Monahan is a good versatile player who can help any team in any game situation. Ok he would be less attractive for an excellent PP team (or a team with excellent FO%) like NYR, like you pinpointed. I'm just tired of seing the argument being overused on every Monahan trade.

Well it's not like playoff teams would want to add a potential boost to their PP... that would just be madness! Nobody would ever do that for a playoff run...

Others are equally as tired of seeing inflated values for mediocre players with higher point totals because they play on team with poor power play.

If one thinks he will score as much on a contender, I've got a bridge to sell you.

The irritating part is that Montreal fans try to pass off those PP points as if Monahan was the PP quarterback. He's not. He's the net front guy. He relies on everyone else on the PP to do the work and get the puck to the net where he can clean up.

It's not bad that he gets PP points, it's just that what Monahan actually provides on the PP doesn't automatically make anyone's PP better. He does nothing that makes a PP more efficient. If you can't get good clean shots on net, enter the zone, settle and control the puck, etc., Monahan doesn't help with that, he's not a PP or 5 on 5 play driver.

And the name of that bridge was The "Artturi Lehkonen Bridge", named after a mediocre 4th liner who was never worth a 1st and famously didn't do better on a good team!
