all of it could use an upgrade. But they have a finite amount of cap without even factoring that it could be artificially lowered by ownership. Given the amount of money tied up there already, I think theyll avoid paying someone through their 30s. Especially if it costs them their current leader in goals above replacement.

Dahlin is first pair RD. Plays the right side, samuelsson plays the left. So pesce would be 2nd pair. That would be nearly 30 mil for the top 4, with a whole bunch of other guys they still have to pay.

Also, It wouldnt make sense to trade an RFA for a pending UFA. If pesce has any desire to sign with the Sabres, they can just wait a few months. Not like they're going anywhere this year.

I wouldn't worry about age with Pesce... he plays a very technically sound game that lends itself to being very long lasting but the AAV will be expensive

The reports are saying they are listening to offers, not shopping him. Nobody's actually said the Sabres don't want to pay him. Just that /if/ they don't they should move him. Friedman, TFP, Marek and Lance Lysowski who covers the Sabres have all confirmed he's not being actively shopped.
