When the leafs inevitably fail, it will be Matthews to Columbus for Fantilli Jiricek and picks

It’s probably one of the two but not both

I could see Columbus paying an absolute premium to have a star American born centre. Columbus has literally never had a true 1C. Let alone a franchise level one. Would give them an opportunity to maximize Werenski and Gaudreau as well.

Absolutely not for Marner. Matthews... I'd have the conversation. But hard no to Marner. That's throwing assets in the toilet for a player who walks next summer no matter what.

Yeah why is Columbus paying all of this for a rental when they won’t be competitive next year and marner has a 0% chance of re signing?

TBH as a Leafs fan I wouldnt even love that trade, even though it addresses most of our needs.

Laine is not a player I want to get involved with atm. Nothing against him as a person or what he is dealing with currently, but when you combine his cap hit with his inconsistency over his career you would certainly be looking at the next Leafs scapegoat.

The other 3 players are all great obviously, but we cant assume Merzlinkins is even an upgrade on Samsonov at this point.. For arguments sake lets say that it is a wash. Jirecek is elite obviously, but he hasnt exactly reached his ceiling yet so the Leafs would be taking a short term downgrade at RHD (their weakest position) for a long-term upgrade (Plus he would be due for a contract in 1 season...), which doesnt really fit with their timeline...

Jenner would be great, but he doesnt move the needle enough to offset everything else imo, and he is getting up there age wise.

The trade value may be equal, but in terms of team fits I just dont see this trade making sense

Leafs and all teams should have no interest in 8.7m Laine or 5.4m goalie Elvis. Too much bad cap going to Leafs.
Yep, I'm sure Marner would waive for CBJ.

Marner isn't leaving his hometown for one of the worst teams in the NHL.

Merzlikins isn't all that great and Laine can't even stay healthy 50% of the time.

Only Jenner and Jiricek are any good. And the rest of the crap that Toronto is offering is a joke.
