Players i would target

Created by: Capitalfail67
Team: 2023-24 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2024
Published: Mar. 4, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
WSH
  1. Liljegren, Timothy
Additional Details:
Mainly just a blueprint but Jensen at 2m help the Leafs cap situation + add a solid puck moving Vet.
TOR
  1. Jensen, Nick ($2,000,000 retained)
2.
WSH
  1. Goodrow, Barclay
  2. Perreault, Gabe [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
This trade is also a blueprint and will likely go bad for even suggesting it but here we go

Mantha 50% = 1st / 2nd + prospect
Dowd = 1st / 2nd + prospect
Dumping Goodrow = 1st / 2nd

values are different suggested values on this site
NYR
  1. Dowd, Nic
  2. Mantha, Anthony ($2,850,000 retained)
Additional Details:
my though is this is a creative way for the Rangers to keep their 1st while obtaining players the need to fill needs in their current roster. if they still need a bottom 6 center the can trade their 2nd for Wennberg whatever
3.
WSH
  1. Kaliyev, Arthur
  2. 2025 3rd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
I want Clarke but im not dumb enough to think we have a prospect good enough to get him besides maybe Leonard

Kaliyev = 2nd / 3rd in value? inconsistent but good when hes on.

Lindgren = 2nd imo could argue less could argue more (crazy people)

Edmundson = 3rd based off Leafs trade
4.
WSH
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Could be a 4th hardly matters at this point. just get positive value for him

ideally we could snag a prospect like Suzuki but unlikely
5.
WSH
  1. Heinola, Ville
Additional Details:
Jets fans are tough on this site and likely will hate this but here we go... (not hating just saying)
WPG
  1. van Riemsdyk, Trevor ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
TVR can play both sides well. He's signed for another 2 years and his hit will only be 1.5m
6.

Rangers are not using Perreault to dump goodrow and not giving a division rival their best prospect

At this point I am fine moving Heinola. Do I think he can play right now and be impactful? Yes, 100%. But Bowness obviously doesn't see it. I say capitalize on the value now.

As for TVR... He is getting up there in age but as a bottom pair D at only 1.5M, I am in.

if the leafs trade for a defender, it wont be with another defender. Their issue is that they dont have enough top four guys as it stands and unless the guy they get is a legit top pairing type then it's shuffling deck chairs and not helping them all that much

Imagine Pacioretty being traded for both Suzuki brothers on different trades

Fair value in the Kings trade, but I don't think that Edmundson is enough of an improvement over Englund to warrant the increased price tag. Just drop him and the 3rd and do a Kaliyev for Lindgren swap and I think the Kings would be interested.

With Talbot and Rittich both playing well right now, the Kings might wait until the draft to do this trade.

Perreault is a good prospect do don't get too crazy... Othmann is much better imo. Perreault benefits from playhing w 2 world class prospects... even with him out those 2 havent slowed down. AGIAN dont get me wrong Perreault is great but hes more of a complementary player like Kunitz / Guentzel. AGIAN thats imo

News just broke a few minutes ago that the Kings just signed Aaron Dell to a contract for the remainder of the season (he was playing for the Reign on a AHL contract), so that makes any other goaltender acquisition this season unlikely.

My thought was Jensen is a good #4 or 2nd pairing guy. He would be a good pairing guy w Reilly and his it will be fairly low.

If he was being carried by Smith or Leonard, then both of them would have more points than him. He dominates every level he’s played at lol

Perreault’s style of play will be similar to Panarin and Fox

sure, but liljegren right now is a good number 4 or 2nd pairing guy, even if Jensen is a bit better a one for one swap just means that the Leafs still need to add another defender of quality. I'm not saying Jensen wouldnt be a good add, just that they need Liljegren AND Jensen in a scenario like this

Yes, why would the Rangers value Gabe Perreault over their probable late 1st this year (in a weaker draft) when they could make a Forsberg for Erat type trade to a division rival! Maybe you could trade Kuznetsov to San Jose for Will Smith next!!

The retention helps in the TVR deal and I could see the Jets adding a depth defenseman, but I doubt they want to be locked into a 32YO 7/8D for another 2 years after this one at. $1.5. Heinola definitely won't be the piece heading to Washington if this happened.

You very clearly dont watch him play huh? Leonard out of the 3 of them is the best at create by himself. Smith is a better play driver and passer. Gabe Again is really good but his skills / play would be harder to transition to the NHL level due to the speed and strength factor. Besides Rizzo he has the least amount of goals in the top 10. BC also have 4 top 10 players in scoring in the NCAA

Perreault’s style is nothing like Panarin. you should really watch him play

Panarin and Fox are few of the slower players who use their vision and high IQ to be dangerous lol Perreault fits the same style

"Yes, why would the Rangers value Gabe Perreault over their probable late 1st this year (in a weaker draft) " bc your owner is dumb and owns a dome? He's said he wants to keep the 1st this isnt me saying this out of nowhere. Perreault isnt Forsberg good but you are also adding 2 players that can help you win a cup while dumping a horrible contract but yes Kuzy for Smith lol good add

He's playing decently well for the Reign. The Kings signed him to an AHL contract to backup Portillo after Copley got injured and the Kings recalled Rittich.

They don't want to rush Portillo to the NHL before he's ready, so this gives the Kings a 3rd goaltender option in case one of Talbot or Rittich gets injured.

Panarin has high level skill. He is an elite skill player. lol wtf do you mean>? like saying Perreault is like Backstrom bc he's slow.... lol what? He's going to be good but you should watch a highlight or a game so you understand how he actually plays

It's too bad that draft theory was debunked the week it came out by the Rangers' beat. I bet Caps fans also didn't think Forsberg was gonna be Forsberg good either lmao. Lastly, they're not using a high end prospect to dump Goodrow lmao. He can be bought out if they really want come June without major repercussions.

As a Jets fan, I feel compelled to type: #FreeVille

That said, I don't see this trade happening as Cheveldayoff is really wedded to his prospects. Bowness said that if Heinola didn't get injured he was going to be in the opening night lineup, so the coach likes him. I guess they will be treating him as backup depth once rosters limits are lifted.
