Why in the world wouldn't Arizona retain. How broke are these dudes tears of joy

Any return is fine, he signed a 1 year deal as a UFA and we aren't making the playoffs. Yes it's a win for Nashville, but we have as of now 37 picks across the next 4 drafts so it honestly doesnt really matter.

Arguably an overpaid rental, but the price is essentially nothing.

As others have said, smart move to avoid trading an extra Draft pick by asking for retention.

Though I'm surprised Nash didn't bring back Granlund, I guess SJS asking price was too high.

I am happy for Zucker. Long time Zucker fan its great to see him going to Nashville. Maybe he enjoy time in there and re-sign new contract. I also do believe Zucker can help Nashville to take playoff spot and help them in playoffs too. Price was nothing, so i voted NSH win.

Great pickup by Nashville. Arizona is to broke to pay him I guess so they gave him away.

I guess Arizona didn't want to retain on him. Nashville took him for full salary.

Arizona must have needed the cash to make a mortgage payment on their state of the art new stadium, otherwise why bother with this trade. Great pickup for nashville for nothing.

Hard to believe that Arizona sold him this low, although they were unlikely to get much more. He should have a few good games left in him, and could make a contribution towards getting into the playoffs.

If I were Arizona, I would have asked for more or told Nashville to kick rocks.

This is downright pitiful.

Nashville wins.

we arent making the playoffs; why keep him? any return is good value, he's a UFA we weren't going to re-sign. what is this comment

He's been so good at the little stuff. Never thought he'd hit 27 goals like past year, but was hoping for a little more offense. Great depth pick no for the playoffs.

Pretty disappointed they didn't retain. Good for Nashville to take advantage.

No idea why they wouldn't retain unless it's penny pinching for the auction and development needed on a new parcel. Obviously they were handcuffed because neither the Dumba or Zucker deals featured retention.

You notice how basically everyone else is saying simular stuff that I said, and it's because it's absolutely true. Hate to break it too you but in this stage of the NHL a 6th round pick is basically nothing, so there's no point in arizona making this trade to make the team better. Sorry, but I'm afraid your favorite team will be moved, and it's because the team is too poor.

Either that or Nashville didn’t want to pay for retention because they didn’t need it. If they asked Arizona to retain 50%, that amount of retention at the deadline normally costs at least a 4th round pick. Why give up that pick if you don’t have to?

Arizona didn’t have to trade him. I would have been inclined to say, “if that’s all you’re going to give me, I might as well keep him. We still have to ice a team for the rest of this season.”
