Description
It's becoming more and more obvious that Fowler can't be relied up on to cover for the young D-men, or at least the offensively gifted ones. His partnership with Luneau was bad, with LaCombe it was bad, and with Zellweger it's disastrous. He needs a defense first partner or we need to find a way to ship him off somewhere, either way he needs reduced ice time and responsibility.

Lindstrom actually working in our system might make Helleson redundant, we can hang onto him for another year but at this point I would move him as part of a deal to improve the roster elsewhere. A team short on RHD prospects might bite for an improvement at bottom 4 forward. In this ACGM I targeted Carlo from Boston instead.

Additional Details:
Carlo is going to be forever stuck behind McAvoy in Boston, and Bostons curious move to pick up Peeke, a player that was compared to Carlo often, is curious to say the least. If Peeke works in Bostons system well enough to play 2nd pair, this gives Boston a boost to their prospect system with a tough nosed RHD prospects and LaCombe, a good all around defenseman who can play either side, plus their second round pick back. Opens up some more salary to go chasing a 1C with.

For Boston fans point out that Hronek got 17 OA and a 2nd, remember the kind of players you find at 17 in the draft. Uhro Vaakainen was 18OA, Zboril was 13OA, DeBruak 14OA, and Senshyn 15OA. LaCombe was a top 10 prospect in the Ducks loaded system before making the jump to the NHL, he's a solid young player developing a great 2 way game, plus a potentially NHL ready bottom 4 RHD and a 2nd.

If I'm Boston, I don't move Carlo unless the team starts sucking out of nowhere. He's got 3 more years at an extremely reasonable price.

Even if Peeke performs out of his mind, Carlo is only 1yr older so it's not like you extend a cup window by swapping them and it would be a cap difference of only 1.5mil

Why does Boston trade him? He complements McAvoy perfectly and plays a ton of minutes every night. He’s signed to a reasonable contract and fits the timeline of their two best players.

It's not a matter of swapping Carlo for Peeke, both are already on the roster, Bostons spending 16.35 million on the right side of the defense currently, Swayman needs a new deal, and you need money to go chase a top 6 C like Lindholm this summer to keep the window open. Not enough sizeable contracts are coming off the roster.

cheers Trading up for MBN, SIGN! ME! UP! But you already know that cheers

I don’t think Boston parts with Carlo

I feel like Reinhart might cost us more that that honestly due to taxes. He could get like $8,000,000 from Florida and make essentially the same amount

Killorn Carlsson Reinhart
Vatrano McTavish Terry
Gauthier Zegras Strome
Jones Lundeström Leason

The forward unit I would run. Terry and Strome could switch at any point. I like the size and checking ability of Jones and Leason on Lundy’s wings a lot

The defense is real hard to fully figure out imo

I mean, Ullmark is almost 100% percent leaving and outside of Swayman who if everything goes well for Boston will sign somewhere around 7-8mil range long term.

After that they have 17ish mil to sign a center and round out the top 4 on LD.

Boston is lucky because the UFA center having the best season right now is Monahan and with his injury history there is a decent chance he signs for a fair price (5-7mil max) making it harder for everyone else to break the bank. (This is just a guess, some teams might not care and start throwing crazy money around)

Edit: sorry forgot to quote\reply to you

Boston has no reason to trade Carlo. They'd need their socks blown off

Reinhart would be a great add, but I doubt he rejoins a rebuilding team after finally tasting success

Boston does not need cap space. Quick peek.

Swayman signs 7m extension before season ends.

Roster

Marchy-Zacha-Pasta
Freddy-Coyle-Geekie
Merk-Potsy-Lysell
Kuntar-Beecher-Brazzeau
Lauko

Lindy-Mac
Lohrei-Carlo
Spoon-Peeke

Sway
Ully

That is 21 man roster with 75.5m used. Leaves 11.5m for 2 slots.

They don’t need cap space. If they do Ullmark is the candidate to move.

Carlo isn't "stuck behind" McAvoy. He's a 2nd pairing D and he has such tremendous value to Boston because he's perfectly suited for that role and is being paid at a team friendly rate. They also see him as part of the leadership group, hence him wearing the A on multiple occasions including Winter Classics in the past.

As covered by others here, Boston isn't in a cap pinch. They'll have plenty to go after a Lindholm if they choose to

But we wouldn’t be talking to Anaheim because they aren’t trading either of their two young centers for that package. McTavish and Carlsson should be off limits.

If Brandsegg-Nygard is available at the Caps pick, I would imagine the Caps pick him. He'd fit the system here in DC very well

Am I the only guy on this platform that isn’t super hot on MBN? Agree that I love his motor and style of play, but his expected draft position just feels high considering his ’meh’ production. 18 points in 41 Allsvenskan games just feels like a player you should be able to snag with a pick in the 20s. This seems akin to the Gaucher pick where we got too cheeky looking for a ‘Verbeek guy’ when Snuggerud was sitting there and trade-up options like Kemell and Lekkerimaki were sliding
