Big Off Season Changes

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2024-25 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 2, 2024
Published: Apr. 2, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Still a young team. I can see Lindholm being a great fit. Jenner with 50% retention would have a lot of value to a competitor.

Thoughts?

I don’t know why. Jenner fits their style and can put them over the top and have multiple yrs of a very friendly contract. But the Jackets are unlikely to trade him anyways so.

Trading a good 3rd pair D for a bad one seems bad for Ottawa

Unless their goal is to get heavier and some vet leadership. Bran is a bit on the lighter side for a D man while Guddy brings some time to answer the bell. Two very different players. Guddy would let brady be even more well brady lol

trading a good D for a crap one is always a bad idea.

- Boone is not, nor will be, available.

- Gudbranson is quietly having one of his best seasons. He’s overpaid, sure, but CBJ aren’t in a cap crunch, he’s been a good 3P guy, and yes - he’s big and provides some vet presence. Brannstrom doesn’t really move the needle too much as another B6 guy.

- At that price, I’d take Lindholm; but, he’s getting more money and term from someone else.

- KJ is going to get more. Besides that, more or less around where the RFA’s are going to be.

- One way or another, I highly doubt Elvis will be here next year.

Can’t see Lindholm signing with the Blue Jackets; there is a group of 8 teams league wide (including Jackets) that I just don’t see being competitive anytime soon

The only possible reason to trade Gudbranson would be to remove his cap hit. Trade him with retention and we just lose that cap signing his replacement - and no, Brannstrom is not an adequate replacement for him, not defensively.

The only possible reason to trade Jenner at all would be if he's an absolute prerequisite for getting back a franchise player. He's too vital to this franchise's future otherwise - not directly, but as the platonic ideal of a mentor for those kids that are themselves the future.

That Lindholm contract would be great for the Jackets, but I would assume he's looking for more than that.

Good thing for Ottawa that that's not what's being proposed, then. Gudbranson's season of overworked misery here last year cast him in the role of a bad 2nd pair D; as a 3rd pair D he's surprisingly effective.

It doesn't make sense for Columbus regardless; we already have too many Brannstroms.

2 years of a guy they really don't need for their top forward prospect (that they do need), a first and a second. That's why.

All I can say is that he's done better than that here, this year.

I'm actually all for moving Jenner, and that's a great return, but we all know it's not going to happen. Colorado probably doesn't have the interest; they've got their 2C now and in the future with Mittelstadt.

Gudbranson is more valuable to us internally, so until we need the cap space there's no reason to move him. I'd be happy with either trade, I just think they're unlikely. The leadership vacuum would be...interesting. Maybe that's a good thing?
