Laine and Roy and Lindholm

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 4, 2024
Published: Apr. 4, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Columbus gets another extremely hard working vet and 2 x 2nd round picks. Montreal get the more talented player and take on the extra cap hit.

Does any of this happen? Does this make them competitive?

Lindholm gets way more then 6 mill
Columbus easily says no, Gallagher is terrible now.

Bruins don’t need any more LHD unless they are bonafide top 4 skill level

CBJ pass. I could see Laine moving, but it’s going to require a 1st, maybe a 1st+.

His value is down now, so I don’t really think it’s happening absent someone gambling on him with an overpay.

I don't like the Habs committing so much term and $$$$ to Lindholm and Roy. Are they really difference makers. and will they be when Habs are true playoff contenders?

Well, at least it's not another Habs post involving Zegras or KJ.

I say this on KJ trade proposals to MTL all the time, but it applies here: CBJ and MTL aren't good trade partners. We need similar things (high-end talent, especially among forwards), have similar things (a lot of young players and vets who are middle-6 or bottom-6 options at the moment, as well as full prospect cupboards, and a logjam of defensemen), and have similar timelines to compete (2-3 years).

If you believe Columbus is still 5+ years away from competing, then maybe it makes sense to grab a bad contract and some picks, but I don't think anyone in or around Columbus believes that. We need top-end talent, so we're not trading a Laine (whose value is down anyway, and we should just keep in hopes of a bounceback) or a KJ or any other young forward unless it's a 1-for-1 hockey trade of similar players, or part of a package for a legitimate upgrade.

As others have said jackets decline. If you take laine out of the trade they decline and they view laine as a positive asset so that only tips the scale even more towards the decline side
