Flames might retain on Markstrom but I doubt they retain on Coleman too, nor does he waive. I also doubt Detroit would accept that as they really don't need more middle 6 talent. Sharangovich definitely has high trade value and would be a great fit for a lot of contending teams but Detroit is probably not one of them

I think Sharangovich and Coleman could be a big upgrade on Perron and Sprong (need new contracts).

We aren't trading Danielson. He's part of the core going forward. I like both of those players but it's just not worth it for us. We need to upgrade the defense and although Coleman helps that, at this cost it's very not worth it.

Markstrom, even retained, is not worth a top 15 pick, nor is Mang worth Holtz. Simple as that. I'd lower your expectations on either of those guys.

They could be yes but that doesn't solve the fundamental issue with the team. Their issue is they only really have 2 top 4 caliber defenseman and 1 rookie who could be. Chiarot is a 3rd pairing defenseman, Petry has completely fallen off, Maatta is a #4/5 at best, and Ghost is pretty much only good offensively. IMO the move they need to be looking to make is something similar to what Edmonton did to get Ekholm. Maybe the answer is something like Cam Fowler (considering he grew up there it's probably one for the 4 teams on his clause). Send Maatta + some picks and prospects

The team definitely needs to bring back Kane for starters as he has fit in phenomenally. He won't this cheap again though. As for Perron and Sprong, Berggren looses waiver exemption this summer and he should be on the roster. He should replace Sprong just fine, maybe they look for a winger to play in Perron's spot but but I doubt they pay premium for it. I could also see Rasmussen or Veleno stepping into that role.

Interesting choices in players to compare Sprong won't be back if wants more money. He doesn't play defense and by doesn't play he barely even tries. There is a reason that both Seattle and Detroit had him relegated to the bottom 6. Coleman has 29 goals this season and it was the first time he had hit 20g in the past 3 years and only the 3rd time in his career. Coleman has averaged about 20 goals a season and is 32. So based on this season alone Colman would would be an upgrade over Perron but going off their bodies of work you can't say that. Yzerman would like to resign Perron but it will be a 1 or 2 year deal and it will more likely be closer to $3.5M to $4M mostly because it's a 35+ contract. Plus Detroit doesn't have to give up anything but cap space to resign Perron. Taking on Coleman means we have him for 3 more seasons at $4.9M. That's a lot for a 32yr old, 20g scorer. I really do think resign Perron would be better for Detroit. Sharangovich is good but he is in the final year of his contract and he is more than likely in for a big raise and Detroit needs cap space since the have to resign Seider and Raymond. So I have to agree with @Ledge_And_Dairy that Sharangovich might not be the best fit in Detroit and they aren't giving up a center for a winger when they need centers. Compher has played well as a 2C but honestly he's a 3C. Danielson is going to be a stud and he almost made the team out of camp this season. There is a good chance he makes the team this season and if he does he will probably be Detroit's 2C by the end of the season for sure and possibly by the All-Star break.

Goalies don't bring in big returns. Comparisons are never perfect that being said. Below are 2 goalie trades where age and stats are similar to Markström.

Chicago traded Fleury to Minnesota for a 2nd that had a condition that could turn into a 1st.

StL traded Allen to Montreal for a 3rd and a 7th

laugh Nate Danielson is going to be a stud, Sorry but Coleman and Sharangovich don't return a 9OA pick like Nate Danielson. Add Rasmus Andersson to the trade. And more than likely it's still rejected.

Mangiapane unretained is a cap dump.

Markstrom isn’t worth anything close to that

Jersey would never do that.. neither of the flames players have that kind of value and Markstrom is probably the worst fit of all the available goalies to the point where it likely wont happen

I'd take Markstrom over Elvis, but that may be it.
