Markstrom will not fetch a top 10 pick unretained.

Brady Tkachuk fetches more.

To make it more reasonable: Bahl+3rd for Markstrom unretained, and then 2024 1st+2025 1st+Holtz for Tkachuk

Also Ethan Edwards and Seamus Casey will not be ready next year. 4 guys under the legal drinking age on your dcore is a recipe for disaster. Keep siegs

OTT declines, no chance in hell NJD trades a top 10 pick for a 34 YO G that might have 2-3 years left as being anything close to good.

Tkachuk should get more quantity, less quality. Add Dowling, Wotherspoon, Shlaine, Zaitsev…like a 15-for-1.

No thanks Lmaoo

You have to include someone 22 and under who’s gonna be a legit top pair RD or top liner who’s not a midget or has skating issues

A top 10 pick for Jacob Markstrom with no retention is insane.

And Ottawa will field a much better offer for Brady Tkachuk than this.

You’re overvaluing Marino again. Marino for Samuelsson one for one isn’t even fair, Samuelsson is younger with a longer-term contract at a pretty fair price for a top four defenseman. He might not be top four in Buffalo because they have an embarrassment of riches on the left side, but he would be almost anywhere else. The Devils are the ones adding picks to this trade, not Buffalo.

I think moving Siegenthaler would be a mistake, especially for so little. CHI accepts and immediately flips him at a profit.

Siegs has certainly struggled this year, but his age, past performance, and contract would make it a terrible idea to sell low.

Get him back with hamilton next year and he should be A-Okay

Exactly what I was thinking. Once the Yin (Hamilton) to his Yang is back full time, Siegs will be more than fine, and he is super affordable. One bad year, in a year that the whole team had a pretty bad year, shouldn't be enough to jump ship on a player. Now, if he has Hamilton back next year and still sucks, I guess NJD should maybe consider a move, but not selling low.

Also replacing him with ethan Edwards would be a disaster.

NJDs D really struggled this year, but frankly should be (hopefully) able to improve with 0 personel changes.

Hamilton back will be massive
Luke and Nemec development into year 2 should be very significant.
Marino and Siegs return to previous form.

If things go right this could become an elite unit without any changes. Imo you can't bank on it all, so I would be bringing in an LD to make Luke and Siegs life easier and so we aren't so reliant on improvement for them.

Kevin Bahl could become useful, but I wouldn't bank on it. Keep him as a 7D tho.

Smith has to go.

My guy to mention has always been marcus pettersson. If we could bring him in it would be perfect

Siegs-Hamilton: Yin and Yang, have proven success
Pettersson-Marino: shutdown pair, 2000+ minutes of success together in pitt and both have improved since then.
Luke-Nemec: have had success when paired together this year, pair of the future, let them absolutely feast on some easier competition.

Imo that can be as good (ideally) as just about any defensive unit in hockey.

I completely agree. I called it last year that letting both Severson and Graves go would set them back another year or two. Which I think was by design. They knew that if they ran it back they chanced not only getting stuck with contracts that could possibly age poorly, but also would've created road blocks for their young stud D, Hughes and Nemec, who were looking for NHL ice time. If they wanted the window of this forward group and this D group to open up a longer window, they needed to pause for a season or two. Yet another big teaching moment for the entire league that no one is taking seriously or learning from. How long have teams been going all in year after year with no results? Patience in development is key.

I'm not even really a NJD fan but I respect what they are doing, and I think they, along with a few other teams, have been a pretty big influence on what Kyle Davidson is doing in CHI.

Yeah I expected a setback losing graves and Severson. I hoped Luke could be similarly as good as Severson (imo he did as well as I could have hoped).

I was hoping Bahl could step into the graves role, and he was a flat out disappointment.

Siegenthaler and Marino's fall off was unexpected. Hopefully it was mostly just caused by unfamiliarity with new, rookie partners who made rookie mistakes.

People who got mad at fitzgerald for not going all in are fools imo.

If I was told at the beginning of the year Dougie Hamilton missed the entire year, all the other injuries we had, and Hughes playing at 50% on 1 shoulder, I'd have said move on to next year and regroup, don't spend.

NJ fans are delusional. They think half their players and prospects are worth more than most teams' best players.
