Hawks wouldn’t send anything back for taking Holl’s contract off Yzermans hands. You are way off on the Campbell trade. Rather it makes sense to the Pens or not the Reilly trade isn’t all that attractive to the Hawks anyway. Jost is not a NHL caliber player, there are plenty of prospects that will be deserving of ice time in Rockford, so why sign him?

While CHI might not take him for more than they can flip him for at TDL, they sure aren't getting paid to take him.

He can go to free agency & pay a lot less to get someone to put up 40 points while not giving up assets if he wants.

As for the trades; Detroit gets FC that’s it, everyone knew that was a ridiculous contract to offer Holl before the ink was even dry.

Puckpedia values the cost of moving Campbell’s contract at the 14th pick of the 1st round. Since Edmonton’s pick is much later, that offer doesn’t get it done. Switch out Lachance for either Holloway or Akey and switch the 2026 5th round pick for a 2024 2nd round pick.

Pittsburgh may be able to find someone to take Smith’s contract for free as some are suggesting in the comments but I highly doubt it will be the Hawks. You can’t ignore Davidson’s history which clearly illustrates draft compensation will accompany Smith to Chicago. The offer above may get it done but I think it will require a 2nd round pick.

You can't get that in FA. Those people want term.

CHI will be more than happy to make that more....for the right price. But they need those players to flip first. As they don't really have any. No one is going to go after Donato or AA at TDL. AA don't play defense an Donato is a 3rd liner at best. But Smith is a guy who teams look at as being responsible, with a offensive touch who can play some gritty minutes and help win games up and down the lineup. That's someone you can flip.

Pass on Holl and Smith. Hawks dont need 3rd round picks...they have TWENTY better picks in the next 3 drafts and at some point will not have places to roster all those picks much less trying to add more for mid 30's bottom of the roster players. Campbell dump is short some combo of retention or another painful pick/asset. A late first in 3 Summers is not going to have anyone willing to eat 5 million for 3 years. Campbell 1 million retained, '24 2nd, & '25 1st might get me to consider taking Campbell as a reclamation project.
