Description
I don't want to rush this rebuild. Clearly not every prospect is Bedard and ready for the NHL. Heck even though he's going to win the Calder...he's got a lot to work on his game too. Let's allow the prospects to develop at their own pace. Don't rush them, BUT also continue to provide veteran leadership and really help the prospects that are at the NHL level to grow into their roles as well. It doesn't hurt to have a guy like Reaves ride the bench most nights and just be available if needed.

Additional Details:
I definitely think TOR wins this trade as it's essentially a LATE 2nd to take on Kampf and Reaves, BUT I could see Reaves being a good lockerroom guy for these kids and he'll help protect for sure. Kampf is the #4C and PKer. He's paid way too much for what he provides, but he does the #4C and PKer pretty well.

Fair enough. But you'd do the trade?

yep, gives the leafs room to sign dewar who is better than kampf and an extra 2 mill on top of that that Trelinving will blow on Edmundson or something, but that's better than icing reaves at least

Leafs tell you to kick rocks. They weren’t moving the 24’ 1st for rental players, they aren’t doing it to clear unnecessary cap.

As much as people on here seem to think Kampf is a cap dump, he’s not. As you’ve mentioned, he’s a good 4C and PKer - both things Toronto values him for. Is he overpaid? Sure you could argue slightly. But not by much. Unless Toronto has another player to fill that exact role (actually 2 guys because they’re currently 1 centre short on the PK), then they’re not moving him and they’re definitely not “dumping” him.

Reaves isn’t a cap dump and he’ll stay for all the right reasons you’ve mentioned - he’s a locker room guy and the team enforcer. He’s loved by the players. His cap isn’t needed to be dumped either so no point in wasting anything to move him.

Just no need for Toronto to do this in the position they’re in.

Isles may look to move Lee out without retention but doubt they give up two 2nd's to do it. That price seems steep. And don't like that Leafs trade for the Hawks. In this draft class, there isn't going to be an appreciable difference between the player you draft at #24 and the player you get at #34. After about #18 or #20 the next 15 or so players are all pretty similar projection wise. I wouldn't trade #34 unless it was part of a deal to a 1st inside the top 20. Kampf doesn't move the needle enough to swap those picks and Reaves is washed as a player. Bad trade for the Hawks. And $8m for both Henrique and Demelo is an interesting strategy. Especially Henrique.

The UFAs are really kinda place holders. I like these two, but Say you like Tanev...fine. but seriously overpay for contributing veterans.

Don't see that henrique deal happening. I get not wanting to rush prospects but I think Nazar is ready.

He's looked good in his two games. I just want to make sure we have a good spot for him too. I don't want him out there as a 3rd/4th line grinder. He's got to get physical more mature for that and he'll get a top 6 role easy in Rockford. Let's just play to his strengths for a while.

I think adding Pageau to the Isles trade makes it a deal the Isles would consider. And JGP then fills the Henrique spot. If the Hawks are going to spend $5m plus for a middle 6 C, I like JGP in that role every bit as much as Henrique.

That 3rd year of Pageau really matters to me though. I probably wouldn't do it just for the (2) 2nds.

I don't see more than one forward being added so I think that we will have a spot. Too many younger guys looking for roster spots. I think we leave them open for guys like Nazar, Dach, Guttman, Anderson, slaggart to battle for. Bedard, kurashev, hall, reichel, foligno, dickinson, AA, donato will be locks. Maybe bring in one outside guy and let those 5 guys battle for the last 3 spots, with Entwistle and blackwell type guys taking the 4th line/extra forward roles

2 years left on JGP. Same term as Lee and the proposed Henrique contract.

I guess I'm ok with another forward being added. Injury or potential Hall TDL move. We needed Sanford/AB/etc... this past year. More payroll in LTIR at one point than in the ice.

I mean one forward total. This post here is adding 4, I think it will be much less than that

Based on Kyle's comments earlier today, it sure sounds like the Hawks are open to add multiple free agents. I don't think two or three forwards are out of the question. Check out Ben Pope's article. Good read.

I mean, it does make sense to me as well. I'm not 100% sure we'll be the home run UFA targets, but we know what we have with Reece / Entwistle. Almost 200 NHL games. He's probably not part of the next step forward. I like Kampf more in that role than Entwistle anyway. Reaves above is a healthy scratch most games. I mean...if they got Reinhart, yeah I'm in. Curious what that contract would need to be at this stage of the Hawks rebuild, but I'm open to it for sure.

Not sure if he talked about Rockford, but looks like they're trying to turn that roster a bit too. Lardis, Hayes, Ludwinski, potentially Nazar.

I think it's pretty likely that Anders Lee will have Chicago and any other non contending team with cap room on his lengthy no trade clause.

I don't think guys like Reinhart or Lindholm would be targets for the Hawks. They'll want term. But like you have in your ACGM. Proven vets who are willing to take one or two year deals. After reading Ben's article, it sure seems like more than one or two signings is more of a possibility than we've all thought up to now. And I agree w/ you on Entwistle and Reese. Time for them to go. Blackwell too.

We are just going to disagree on Kampf. Don't think he's that much of an upgrade over what Hawks have now. And don't like the AAV or the term on his deal. I'm hoping Ilya Safanov comes over for the 25/26 season to fill the 4C role. Seems like a prototype NHL 4C to me.

I don't see 30+ year olds that have term and never won a cup having any interest in Chicago, San Jose, etc. Free agents that will get vastly overpaid like Perry and Foligno did last year? Yeah I can see that. But a player with no financial advantage is going to want no part of the dumpster fire that those teams are in. They are 2-3 years away from even competing to make the playoffs. Maybe in a few seasons when his contract is done and nobody else will give him a meaningful contract but when he has term and controls his destination for the most part I don't see it happening now.

I don't view those as being equal. Anders has to provide a list of teams. You're assuming he's willing to go to Canada. Some guys aren't. Maybe he doesn't want to go against the NYI so the Metro is out. If he wants to be closer to "home"...he might accept MIN/CHI. It's possible. But it's not a choice of what team do I want to do go. It's a choice of which teams would I put on my list.

Not saying you're wrong...just A LOT more goes into those decisions.

Typically the lists are submitted each year around July 1st. Players typically use modified no trade lists to their advantage. He has a 15 team no trade list. If he's smart he can practically make that a complete no trade list by leaving off teams that would never trade for him because of their cap situation like Colorado, Toronto, Tampa Bay and Minnesota. A lot of times a player ends up going to a team on his list but it's because it's an ideal situation where a team is in a contending situation and it's a better situation than the team he is leaving. Chicago is not in that position currently. Look how long rebuilds in Detroit, Buffalo and Ottawa have been going on. It's not a situation veteran players with options want to be in. They often get players because they pay players the most. Pretty much what you did with Henrique and Demelo. No other team would hand out those contracts. For Lee he already has a contract.

I appreciate your opinion! Truly. Did you know his wife is from Chicago and they meet at Notre Dame??? Like I hear you, but he'd be the 6th or 7th veteran that came to CHI for none hockey reasons. It happens all the time. Maybe 1 of those 16 teams COULD...MAYBE...POSSIBLY be CHI. Far stranger things have happened.

Nothing is impossible. Just don't see Lee at this stage in his career accepting a deal to Chicago. Maybe in a few years when his contract is up and he's a free agent if he can't latch on to a cup contender.

Even saying that though why would you want Lee on the Blackhawks right now? If I'm the Blackhawks I'm trading away draft picks (second rounders as they have 8 over the next 3 seasons) for young players other teams can't afford to keep. Think of Sean Durzi types. Trying to rebuild with just draft picks is really tough because a lot of them just don't develop and I believe that losing teams do more harm to a lot of them.
