MIN
  1. Chychrun, Jakob ($1,600,000 retained)
  2. Kastelic, Mark
Additional Details:
My belief here is that Chychrun retained gets the Wild a Top 4 Partner for Spurgeon for cheap this year that can be extended with the money coming off of the Suter and Parise Buyouts. This is under of course the assumption that the Wild can get an extension for Chych. Kastelic similarly gets the wild cheap depth for the year and could make up for the grit they lose in Middleton. This may tip in favour of the sens because it is tough for me to gauge Middleton's value. I have seen that he has value from some people and others saying he may need to be dumped for cap space.

I actually like this.

I'd do all of these trades except the JBD one because I don't think he'd get a 3rd round pick and we might as well just keep him as a 7th D.

I don't see that being something the Wild consider.

Middleton is pretty much exactly what they need in their defense at a good cap hit and they should be trying to get more guys like him. Giving up a 1st and other picks for a move they don't really need to make when they should be looking for a top 6 LW seems like a bad idea. He's definitely not a guy that needs to be dumped for cap space, they're not as cap strapped this year as people on this site seem to think. lol

Canes pass. Better options in free agency that have no cost of assets. You need to take back cap, or you're keeping Brannstrom

Might as well keep JBD as the 7th guy...

I wouldn't trade Brannstrom for picks... but for a similar youngish 2-way forward

Minnesota has 12 forwards under contract for next season already plus RFA Mason Shaw and kids who might get promoted from Iowa, so Mark Kastelic isn't much more than a throwaway throw-in. The difference between one season of Jakob Chychrun and one season of Jake Middleton (whom Minnesota will be able to afford to re-sign much more easily than Chychrun) can't be all that much, especially given that even with the retention, Chychrun's contract is under water while Middleton's is economical. I doubt that the Wild would do this even if you took out the first.

Caps will want more for TvR. He's currently more valuable to Washington than a couple 4th round picks.

Calgary has no interest in Docker. Flames already have plenty of defenseman to compete for spots next year. The only defensemen Ottawa has that Calgary would be interested are Sanderson, Zub and if the acquisition cost is low or he comes with an extension Chychrun.

Chychrun isn’t going to be returning similar value to when he still had term on his deal.

You say that you think we may need to dump Middleton for cap reasons, but then have us replace him with someone who costs $550k more plus a "depth forward" we don't really need or have a roster spot for? How does any of that make sense? Middleton is already a great compliment to Spurgeon plus they have excellent chemistry. Even if we dropped the 1st and 2nd, I still don't think this makes sense for Minnesota.
