If we were to trade Marner to where

Created by: hockeynutter
Team: 2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 29, 2024
Published: Apr. 29, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trading Marner seems simple but we all need to remember two big points where he may go and what can we get in return to A somewhat replace his offense and B improve our top 4 defense.
Note the trades are considering all these factors. It has nothing to do with whether the teams accept of decline. Reality shows that I don't see any teams making the trades

Most of these are a joke. The only possible real deal could be Arizona.

Most teams can't afford his contract and aren't paying that much for a rental.

The Sabres aren't trading cozens.

The devils surely aren't going to listen after Hughes is mentioned.

No one is going to pay anywhere near this for Marner

Teams would rather just wait out and see if he walks from Toronto then pay him

Toronto screwed themselves here and they're facing those consequences

Exactly the point. Leafs Marner for a defenseman and they lose 80-100 points plus on offense, whom can we then afford on FA to replace about 60-80 in the top six? Trade Marner for another 80-100 point forward, does it really change much. Trade Marner for a 1st, prospect and middling forward, whom to we sign or trade for with the pick add to our defense and replace him.

This is what i call empty offence. I wouldnt trade Brady Tkachuk for someone like Bratt or Marner no matter how many more pts they get than him.

Wait....I take that back. I just looked at Kellers production and contract and defensive prowess which is very similar to Marner minus the extra 4mil/year with adding Durzi this deal would not fly.

Good luck Toronto breaking up the core!

Obviously any trade would have a resign guarantee. That being said of course the trades would not happen. I am merely pointing out how trading Marner is not as easy as we think. The Leafs will need to replace Marners production whilst added a true top four defenseman is not an easy task and most teams refuse.

I bet you you could do more with a deal of like Crouse, Vejmelka, Hayton , a couple 2nds and some cap space

You really think NJ would trade Hughes for Marner? And then adding on top of that? tears of joy

All of these trades are so far off his actual value, which is a lot lower than you think

Again Marner is a 90 to 100 point player. This year before his injury was tracking to cross 100+ points. That is elite offensive performance plus Marner is fresh off a selke. His value is there. Do I believe such a trade NO! Why because the Leafs would need returns like the above to make it worth trading Marner. They need defense, but trading Marner for defense removes that offense. These are more for what Toronto needs and where Marner may accept a trade too. Will New Jersey make that trade. I honestly really don't think so.

Marner is fresh off a selke? what alternate universe are you from?

he's never hit 100 points, he's never won an award, and with one year left on his deal, he isn't worth a quarter of what you're expecting.

Whon does Vegas have to give a top 6 production and top 4 defense. They have a lot of top ufas. And why would Marner go to Anaheim? Explain that and I can see it.

Sorry selke nomination and multiply his points per game and last two year he was most of he year tracking to 100+ points. Two years ago he reached 99. Don't believe look at the stats and simple multiply ppg x 82.. 1.23 x82 =101 points.

guess what pal? I am perfectly capable of doing simple math.

he didn't win a selke
he didn't hit 100 points
he looks horrible in the playoffs

he's just not that good.

The arguments ppl have will not sway my point. Again if people learn to read. I don't expect a single trade above to happen nor come close. The point to show what Toronto will need in return. The other team is most likely giving a F$ no. This proving the point that a Marner trade is most likely not happening.

Vegas - Barbashev, Hague or Whitecloud, and Hill. Leafs should target 2 of 3 of those players. Hill has 1 year left and Vegas may decide to move on.

Anaheim is building a great young core, they have young mobile defense, big bodies up front whose style will compliment's Marner like McTavish and Gauthier. They'll be ready to win soon. Marner will fit in there and be a leader on that team point wise.

Last year he had 14 points in 11 playoff games. Overall he is close to a ppg and the highest ppg amongst all Leafs. He didn't win a selke but GMs will look at the nomination as a sign of good defense. Plus all GMs pays according to regular over the playoffs. In fact 3 out of 4 playoffs including this year where all insiders say you can tell you cannot move as easily after a high ankle sprain. He produced a ppg. Lastly all ex players whom experienced high ankle sprains say the pain lingers for months after returning and affects your play. Look at Joseph will.

He has one year on deal
He has $10.9m AAV
He has history of making negotiations painful
He has full NMC

If they found a trade partner, it would likely be closer to what Taylor Hall returned when Buffalo dealt him to Boston. Just take a 2nd, mid prospect and spend the cap space elsewhere.

Once again whom do they sign with said cap space to bring in a top four Blueline that will want 6+ million and a 60-80 points for 4 million. Look at the FA crop and tell me. I have looked and don't a logical way to this. Replacing these players are not as easy as 123. That is my point. Leafs need two top 4 defense to truly balance their team out and a forward to replace Marners production and losing Marner saves what 10.5 million. Next year most FAs are players whom will resign with their respective teams don't believe go a look. Ekblad, Theordorez Draisatl, Rantanen, Crosby.
