Minnesota Maple Leafs

Created by: iAce
Team: 2024-25 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: May 7, 2024
Published: May 8, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I see a ton of similar issues with the Maple Leafs and the Wild. The Leafs are more talented but I see the same sorts of flaws when you look at deep playoff runs.

Please Read: Wild fans are NOT crazy about trading Rossi. We've waited years for a draft potential 1C. We have him putting up 40+ points in his rookie year. The issue which is causing the rumors is that Hedit and Yurov could be better than Rossi. Mainly Yurov. We are glad to keep him but if we can acquire a different type of player with similar hype, I think the Wild think about doing that trade. Rossi goes to the front of the net, great vision and strong for his size. I started seeing more of Point in his game this year.

Trades
1.
MIN
  1. Daws, Nico [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 1st round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Gustavsson, Filip
  2. 2024 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Pulling from another user. This deal makes a lot of sense. I want the return to be more but this is helping us move up the draft board and grab a higher tier prospect which is what we need.
2.
TOR
  1. Rossi, Marco
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
I'm probably going to get roasted in this trade and Leaf fans are going to say he is untouchable. I see this helping the Leafs replace JT. He also keeps you competitive immediately. You have wingers that can replace what Knies did. Domi, Bertuzzi and others can replace what Knies brought. Matthew and Rossi would be a really good 1 2 punch. The Wild see Yurov as our future 1c maybe 2c. They also have Heidt they want to take the leap next year. Russo mentioned that Rossi will be moved for a similar type player. A 21-22 year old that a team may want to move. Or a blockbuster trade to acquire a super star. Wild can't afford that right now.
3.
MIN
  1. 2025 5th round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Gaudreau, Frédérick
Additional Details:
I think Freddy could be traded to a team where Dean lands. Dean would be a good fit with the Jets.
4.
MIN
  1. Chesley, Ryan [Reserve List]
  2. 2024 4th round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Johansson, Marcus
  2. O'Rourke, Ryan
Additional Details:
Swapping prospects because the Wild have 4 LHD at the same development stage. JoJo goes home on his last year of his deal and could be flipped fora bigger asset.

LW is such a thin position for the Leafs, I just don't see them trading their only young LW for a C when they already have Minten and Cowan as C prospects

The difference in value between Rossi and Knies is minimal. Not a 2nd round pick.

I don’t mind the caps trade actually. Value wise it seems to make sense, just depends on what the caps want to do this summer and how they view these prospects.

Leafs are keeping Knies. He's someone you build around and elevate to a top six role.

The Jets don't need a 31YO 13/14 forward with a bad long-term contract.

I think Chesley would cost more, but the other deals seem realistic to me.

Caps are set at LHD for awhile: Fehervary, Sandin, Alexeyev.

Would you be able to give me a rundown on Chelsey?

You’re much better versed in NCAA than I am

I don't think the Jets do the 5th for Gaudreau. They have a number of inexpensive players that they can put on the 4th line like Barron, Gustafsson, Kupari, Jonsson-Fjallby.

Instead the Jets should trade Iafallo unless they find a home for him on the 3rd line which probably won't happen.

Very good skater, versatile, very calm, cool under pressure,...
Probably a little like Brock Faber or Jake Sanderson mold or a player.
For comp from the Devils, maybe Damon Severson with lesser shot, fewer mistakes, a little more mobile.
Defends well with his skating. Can interrupt transition. Deny entry into d-zone.
Offense/points will come as he handles puck well, but probably no more than 25-30/year at peak

MINN Golden Gophers are one of the best at developing dmen too...maybe top-5 along in that regard.
So he should arrive well trained and NHL-ready.

I can, but first off…your offer isn’t close! Johansson is completely washed up and O’rourke might never play with n the NHL!
I see Chesley developing into a league-average to very good 2nd pairing RHD. He’s a very good skater, has a very heavy shot, moves the puck fairly well, has piss and vinegar in his game, is as strong as an ox, and probably has more offensive upside than most people think. He would be the perfect #2 to Faber’s #1. Those two manning the right side of the blueline for the next decade+ would be terrific!

What is an acceptable return for Chesley? I don't even know, looking at the numbers he doesn't seem like a lock to be a stud in the NHL or anything. We just have no depth and I wanted to move JoJo. I understand the return might not be what you are looking for but the same thing that can be said about a lot of the prospects and making the NHL. You can pick between Lambos, Hunt, Peart and O'Rourke. We need to move 1 or 2 of them for help on the right side. They are all in the same spot developmentally so you can choose. I think Lambos has a higher ceiling and Hunt is closest to playing minutes

Numbers don’t describe Chesley’s game. He’s a defense-first defenseman who also contributes auxiliary offense.
I think now he’s worth a late 1st.

That is fair. What is the team looking at for return? You guys made playoffs, so maybe a player that can help you now? Or futures?
