That's a terrible deal for Columbus. Trading a top prospect for a pending UFA makes no sense.

any Marner trade will likely come with an extension

Marner for Jiricek makes the most sense of any trade proposal I have seen. CBJ has $19mil in cap space, Marner with Gaudreau is dicey but their defense has too many bodies so top tier like Marner is worth the risk. Great for both sides.

Yeah, sure, Columbus trades their only RD prospect of value who is a vital part of the future core for a winger that does not produce in the playoffs and is over-paid. Sounds great for Columbus.

This makes sense to Leaf fans but realistically it doesn't fit Columbus window, Jirichek, Fantilli,Mateychuk and their 2024 1st will all be within 4 years of age. Trading one of those pieces for a 27 year old winger isn't the way they get ahead.

Marner is a guy they go after in FA, not who they trade for and give up premium assets

Columbus would have to send one of laine or gaudreau out in a marner trade to have it make sense to acquire marner.
Also jiricek and pick 4 would be off the table in a trade.

Luckily Columbus won’t have to worry about the playoff part

Does this make sense for Marner? He has to agree

Jackets very easily pass. Jiricek is more value to us than Marner could be. We dont need another high priced winger.

yeah thought it was light, I've seen Vegas fans trying to off load him as a cap dump for some reason, what kind of package is the fanbase expecting for him?

We don’t want to move him. He’s not a cap dump. But if we were to make a move, Marner retained for Theo makes a ton of sense for both clubs
