This trade seems really bad. And yes it may be unrealistic. But is it were to happen I think the caps would be a good fit. The caps are an aging team who are barely afloat and gaudreau is a superstar who is caught in a terrible slump. This move could revive gaudreaus career which would seriously help the aging capitals

Sens ain't giving a pick for Merzlikins. Best case scenario he's a marginal improvement over Korpisalo at a way bigger cap hit. Nobody is giving a quality draft pick for him

“Time to make the CBJ good!”
Proceeds to make the most geriatric and mediocre team I’ve ever seen with no sense of direction or plan.

The Merzlikins trade would not be accepted by the Sens.

Everything else is a Hell No.

I think it's the other way.
Neither player has much value of anything right now, Why would the penguins give up picks.

The best I would do on that is a 1 for 1 swap.
It doesn't matter that Laine is 2 years shorter contract for PIT. In 2 years they will definitely be rebuilding.
So it's a who the hell cares. Not giving up 2 picks to save 2 years I don't care about.

Laine is way younger and a PPG player when healthy. Rackell is past his prime, overpaid, has 4 years left through his age 35 season, and put up 40 points last year.

Laines problem is he’s injury prone. That’s it

injury prone and that's it.... dude is in player assistance right now.
He doesn't want to play in CBJ, he sure as hell isn't going to want to play in PIT.
Rakell is 1 year off a good season.
As far as Laine being younger, who cares. He's not going to stay in either CBJ or PIT. It's not like you are getting any of that out of him.

You seem to have some absurd notion of the players value.
He played 18 games last year. 18
and was not a PPG player.

Get over it.

There’s not a team in the league that would take 31 year old rakell signed for 4 more years over laine at 6 million. Talk about delusional

the only delusional aspect here is you popping off about how injury is the guys only problem.
Again he played 18 games last year. At least rakell played 70 last year and isn't in a players assistance program.

Laine has more red flags on him that you can count. Including two issues with two different teams.

His situation is so bad you can't even trade him right now, because you can't move guys in a players assistance program. Nor is any team, and I mean any team, looking to trade for those guys.
You can go on all day, but those are facts and are why his value is literally rock bottom low.
So yeah, there are teams out there that would rather take a "31 year old Rakell" than him.
You make it sound like players don't play till 33-34 years old in todays league. That's just BS. many players do.
At least you can chalk up Rakells issues to things other than him, like having a 37 year old center.
Laine's issues are all on him.

But keep hitting that pipe where you think there is some great value in Laine.... there isn't. He's literally unmovable right now. Even if you wanted to, and even if they could find a rock bottom trade partner, you couldn't move him.

Okay that’s fine by me I don’t want to trade laine. Glad we can agree jackets are better off keeping him and not taking on a overpaid, aging, mid winger

no one said the jackets are better off keeping a guy who is so disgruntled he's on the players assistance program and hates being on your team.

He's destroying your cap because you can't count on him but have to count on his cap hit.
Clearly that's such a great situation for CBJ.
Couple that with the fact he'll never resign for you and makes it impossible for you to trade him..... really great situation.

I think you really lack a perspective of reality.
Rakell put up 60 points last year, a guy putting up 60 points and 28 goals at 5 mil per isn't over paid.
But A guy counting 8.7 mil on your cap while getting 0 out of him is a major problem.

no one is claiming Rakell is some great trade piece dude.
It's you who keep on thinking that Laine is.

I have stated multiple times on this website that moving Rakell out currently is a swap between 2 bad contracts in a hockey trade.

It's you who seems to think you have gold in Laine. You don't.
FFS you can't even get him out on the ice for you.
