NJD notably hates their goaltending so Detroit should trade Veleno for a goalie NJD wants to cast off.

... Lol.

veleno is not anything crazy. akira had a good run and has good promise but doesnt make sense to rotate with jake allen... my guess is youre just overrating veleno's value, a guy whos gonna be forced out by danielsson / kasper anyways

Keep Schmid, send Daws

And Clarke may be better option at 4C than Dvorak.

i think you're neglecting how good schmid was last year. looking at a team that struggled defensively to write off a developing netminder isn't logical.

veleno needs a change of scenery if he wants to turn his career around, because hes already pretty underwhelming and his minutes will only continue to get edged out. adding picks to this trade felt generous.

Yeah bro. He'll do a much better job behind Detroit's elite defense. tears of joy

I would keep Schmid. He is the future of our goaltending.

Dont you know holtz is definitely a 80 point scorer while finding a cure for cancer in between periods.

Atleast thats what devils fans would have you believe every time they trade him away

well given 99% of detroit fans on this website never want to trade anyone, any suggestions on fixing it would be ignored.

I'm not a fan of either teams. But i do see similarities in Holtz's value and Newhook, and Hughes seems to like trading for underachieving top draft picks. I think NJ fans have a point that coaching is part of why he struggled. Dumping 2m of Dvorak and adding Bastien is also to be considered in this.

Why is it whenever a prospect from another team just doesn't work out its the coaching but when it's a Habs prospect it's bad drafting and poor development? Don't worry you don't have to answer that, we all know there is a double standard on this site when it comes to Habs players.

Multiple coaches now in NJ have looked at Holtz and passed on him being a bigger part in the lineup. He provides nothing beyond points

Newhook had a bonafide role in colorado he was their 7th forward in ATOI they just didnt have the luxury of giving him the leash to see if he could be a 2C so they tried other options. Probably was the wrong decision for them with hindsight because they gave the 1 pick for colton who made 1.1 million more and wasnt a improvement and the whole johansen debacle that they basically had to send their first for walker to get philly to eat the deal as well.

Holtz by ppg wouldnt have been top 10 on the habs last season and they still have to play anderson to hope he recoups value. He would be in the same spot as hes in new jersey. A bottom line winger whos not fit for that role.

i havent seen many occasions where the habs are actively marketing a reclamation project of this age. Certainly not someone picked so high up. I wouldn't include Slaf in that conversation since he wasnt available ever. the reputation of bad drafting comes from what has already happened, not for what can happen now.
Cases of habs fans wanting firsts for guys like anderson and edmundson tho, yeah, that will forever cause everyone to look at your fanbase a certain way.

Keep Schmid, send Daws.

I am now convinced that Fitzs whole strategy from TDL forward is they believe in their youth tenders and that Markstrom was a good enough place holder until something shakes out. Daws showed well until they played the wheels off him. SchmidO looked composed last yr vs Rags. The other guys (Malek, Poultier, Brennan) have played decently. Maybe just maybe it was Markstrom/Allen this season, Markstrom/Schmid in yr 2 and Schmid/Daws et al year three. It fits the timeline. If Fitz could make that work, wow!
