TVR + JVR
I think that Bean and any number of Carolina's young D, are all very talented. But, I only see Leafs moving JVR for immediate help and to strengthen an area of weakness. Yes we have exceptional depth on the wings, but one of our strengths, is also depth on the LD, albeit (similar to Bean) likely a year away. When you look at Dermott, Nielsen, Borgman, and Rosen, all project out as a roster player, and likely top 4 in 2 years or less.

top 2 dman trade
I see Carrick as having an equal potential to Barrie, plus he's younger and cheaper. Carrick already demonstrates elite-level stats in suppressing the bottom 6 of opposition teams; now he just needs to gain a little more experience against elite forwards. He also has the potential to play on the PP. Why not be patient and develop the assets we have? I don't think I would trade him one for one in return for Barrie at this stage. Let alone losing a top-6 forward for the year, two prospects and a useful backup.
If we're going to give that much for a defenseman, which I think we should consider doing, I'd seek a type of player we don't have on the team, for instance an elite shutdown D like Toronto-native Tanev.

top 2 dman trade
I'm still wondering who the top 2 Dman the Leaf have acquired.....,cause it sure ain't Barrie, though he may paid like one. Why even bring up JVR and his next contract. Leafs need him this year.
The trade is really Barrie for JVR and Carrick. I know it's subjective but it hurts the Leafs this year and with that 5.5m makes, a better Dman can be found next year with that money. As bad a rap as Marincin gets, there is certainly no guarantee that Borgman, Rosen, Nielsen or maybe even Dermot are NHL ready

Sure you have. You also wrote the this would help the Leafs cap. They would get 11.5m from the Avs and only give 8.25 to the Avs. Minor leaguers don't hurt the cap space.
BStone, agree with your statements but it's difficult to argue against unknowledgeable hockey fans and/or Leaf haters and/or two guys that love to troll.

Smart Decisions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStone67</b></div><div>Gardiner, Bozak and JVR didn't drop the ball last season, Duchene and Barrie heavily let their team down. Barrie was a -34 with only 40 minutes played on the PK, and that's kind of atrocious. It's a downgrade for a higher price in my opinion, and Babcock loves Gardiners ability to control the play and puck possession.
Duchene only notched 43 points last season, and yes let's say we forget last season, still, he's only ever got more than 60 points twice in 8 years and has struggled with injuries a lot of that time, too, along with inconsistency. He could thrive under Babcock, but at the asking price Sakic has set (not this horribly out of control trade) it's really not worth it. The Leafs have Bozak, who can contribute and has a great mentor quality with the team, and great chemistry with the players already.
If we do grab Duchene and Barrie and they do both exceed expectations under Babcock, then they'll ask for a raise when their contracts are up in a couple years and the Leafs will be forced to let them walk for nothing or try to trade them depending on where the Leafs sit in the standings that year. It seems like a really pointless trade for both teams, because either we get players who are coming off a horrid season with expensive contracts that don't get better and flop still, or we get two players who rebound and become successful that we won't be able to afford and gave up futures to get them.
As for the trade, it's definitely not gonna work, since Sakic is over asking and you won't get those players from them for that price, even if it's a quality center, a top 4 D and a blue chip prospect with a few rag tag players in there.</div></div>
Bozak and Gardiner for Duchene and Barrie could be debated as equal trade. And some of the other pieces don't add much, but the Leafs wouldn't want to give up on Bracco. Yea you would think if Duchene and Barrie were so good, they would have been traded for now. But as suggested earlier, Sakic is asking too much for two players that are not living up too their contracts. I'm sure the Leafs who are kinda in a win now mode, don't want to babysit Duchene and Barrie and run the risk they aren't as good as the two pieces they traded away. Barrie might be able to help a PP, but the Leafs had the second best PP last year. Is he really gong to help there?

Don't see the benefit to the Leafs trading 55 point Bozak. for 43 point Duchene. Imagine the Leafs would prefer Gardiner over Barrie too. Leafs need cap space soon, and Duchene and Barrie seem like at 11.5 seem too much.
Not having JVR hurts the Leafs considerably at left wing.

Really? That much that its worthy not comment it? How much are really talking here? 100 maybe 200K difference for each of those players except for Ghost who would be extremely lucky to get that contract. Not sure why he deserves so much more? Subban got a bridge deal at roughly the same thing. Sure, he went on to win the Norris and really screw MTL after that but we're talking about Ghost here. I don't foresee any Norrises in his future. I think he'd be happy to take a bridge deal at that amount. If its about term, then I agree. Get him signed longer now while he's cheaper as he should only get better from here on out. Still this contract isn't the end of the world.
900 for Laughton isn't that far off base. It could be anyweher from 750-950.
750 for Cousins is a bit low but nothing more then a 1M should be given. So we're talking 250K difference here.
975 for Vecchionne seems fine. Not sure what he has leverage to prove otherwise. College is college and NHL is NHL. He hasn't done sh*t in the NHL yet. He's a 24 year old smallish center with virtually no NHL experience.
975 for Weal is about right. Don't let the small sample size fool you. He wasn't going to keep up that pace all year with Philly. He is the same player he was in LA. A smallish skilled winger/center that can put up decent production given offensive roles only but can't stick with any other role.
As for Ghost, well its tough I guess. His offensive production screams "lock him up long term". His defensive game yells "I need a bridge deal to prove Im not just a M-A Bergeron".

Kid has a ton of potential but you don't give up a top pairing RHD or a #1 defenseman for a prospect winger - let alone on a team where Poolparty would be the third best winger behind Ehlers and Laine.</div></div>
Not many do come into the league and light it up. Especially not many players coming from European ice. I will not stop "acting like he has that kind of value" because HE DOES HAVE THAT KIND OF VALUE he just needs to adjust. Not to mention Leon Draisaitl had a worse first season then poolparty and was being treated the exact same his first season. He was being undervalued and teams were trying to get him at a minimum, now he is top 10 in NHL points (partly due to Mcdavid but still). I do understand that my opinion is very biased coming from an Oilers fan and a massive Puljujarvi fan but I do believe that he has potential to be an elite RW in the game of hockey</div></div>
Nail Yakupov had lots of potential too. Trouba is a proven defenseman

Leafs 16/17- RH dman Anaheim, E Kane from Buffalo
Here are my issues with this:
1) Anahiem is at the cap, not over it. Despres is on LTIR with his concussion history. His career is most likely over, but if it's not he would definitely not be back until the playoffs, where cap is not an issue.
2) Beiksa will waive his NMC because there is almost 0% chance he is taken and if he does not Anahiem will buy him out to solve that issue.
3) yes, Anahiem does still need to move a defenceman to save their offence, but they need to make a series of deals, a shady deal to circumvent the expansion draft rules, or take back a young asset like a Kapanen that does not need to be protected, unless they are okay with losing Cogliano, or Vermette.
4) Buffalo can keep his problems. The Shanaplan started with removing all the bad attitudes and influences from the locker room to start a new. Why would they then bring in a player that may just need the proper mentorship (3rd times a charm? Doubt it) but could risk destroying all the good things everybody is raving about?
5) s*** happens it sucks it happened but I'd do it again to get the Leagues best coach and fixer (gm) in the league.
6) the Marlies are doing very well right now and will almost definitely make the playoffs. Next year looks even better with the young guys they have coming out of junoirs and Europe so don't ruin a good thing, we haven't had a lot of them to cheer about in years.

If I'm Radulov, I definitely want as much money as i can get but i also want to play for a good team that will make my stats look good for a future contract and all round general good confidence. LV can't give them that. MTL can, they might offer less than LV would but they would also be closer to a cup and would give him good players to play with.
If Radulov is smart and knows he wants to sign with MTL, I don't see why he wouldn't agree in principle to a contract before the expansion draft and then just sign it on July 1st. It doesn't change his life at all but also helps the team he's on to be better. Win-Win.

I really hope we can find players better than Polak and Hunwick in free agency. Though I do think the CAR trade is fair I'm getting the feeling the leafs are not going to trade prospects right now unless they are not in their future plans and Kapanen is in their plans. I don't think they are looking for goalie prospects right now so I would think that they are looking for draft picks and/or prospects for Bozak. The Philly trade I would really like to see a 2017 1st on that trade due to that I'm getting the feeling they are looking for a Kessel type payoff without retaining money.

The Only way Philly Trades for JVR
Why does Tor have to take the worst part of this deal in order to trade away the best part of this deal? That makes no sense.
Whether you believe it or not Sanheim + 2nd rounder for JVR is the going rate. <strong><em>Now</em></strong> Toronto can retain salary on JVR or take on a bad contract like MacDonald to help Philly stay under the cap but it will come at an additional cost to Philly. If we're talking MacDonald here? I'd say change the 2nd rounder for a 1st rounder and possibly 4th-5th as a sweetener. If it's just Toronto retaining salary on JVR equivalent to what Philly would need to stay under, we're talking an extra 3rd rounder possibly a 2nd if its the max 50% retention.

After Price
Your assuming Jones isn't resigned by that time......... Good young prime time goalies are rarely available unless they really want to leave. Letting Price go without a backup plan in disastrous and should only be followed up by tanking the next couple of years.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larkinisking</b></div><div><i>Yeah Martin Jones isn't leaving San Jose and Cam Fowler wants to either come home to Detroit or will resign with Anaheim so way does Fowler sign with Montreal.</i></div></div>
Oh enough Larkin! Your predicting something you have no idea of. Jones may not leave because he wants but because he asks for 8.5M like shown above and SJ isn't willing to spend that money on him. Is that such a crazy concept to conceive of? Will it happen? I don't know but at least you can't say for certain that some one in 2 years is not leaving that team.
And enough with your Detroit hard on-love affair! "Trouba only wants to play with Detroit", "Fowler wants to come home to Detroit". (Can't wait to see Fowler resign with Anaheim with the zero money they'll have in 2 years for him but ok!) Every player ever born in Michigan only wants to play for Detroit!!!! They only have so much space and so much cap to take on all the Michigan players in the world. Eventually a couple will have to go to one of the other 30 teams around the league and they'll be perfectly happy with it!
So how about you start posting your opinion and phrase things like " I think" and "In my opinion" instead of pretending that you know with facts because stating "Fowler wants" and "Jones isn't" is pure speculation on your part and holds as much merit as David Desharnais being traded to Detroit for their 1st rounder!!!

What is with you man: JVR for a declining Defenseman, and a "prospect" who can not even make the big club. Plus Toronto doesn't have defensive holes with fringe NHLers. They already have Marincin, Corrado, Hunwick, Polak, Loov, Valiev. Who can all play third pairing. With Nielsen being ready to be called up whenever, Carrick, Gardiner, Zaitsev they have a full second pairing. Dermott will probably be a solid top 4 once developed.(year or two away). And Rielly will be a solid top 2 defenseman. For the Soshnikov trade it would be decent to get Vatanen. Except no NHL team three bottom 6 players for a top 4 defenseman. Bozak deal is decent; probably not enough return. Polak deal is the same, Polak himself is a second round pick to a contender, with no salary retained. Leipsic is leading the Marlies in points or in second. Why would you trade him for Fehr. Just does not make much sense.
Also not really surprised. Since a majority of your posts are the Leafs getting robbed in deals.

Manson is being kept by ANA. He is on his ELC and plays top 4 minutes. You will not get him for that, regardless of what they think of Bracco. Not even close man.
Again with WSH. Lindberg and a pick, really? The pick is not even 2017? Really? That's terrible. Doesn't matter how highly anyone thinks of Lindberg this is a huge no for WSH. He is a top 4 D. They possibly reject JVR....
Rychel and 2 2nd's do not get you Killorn. They will find a higher bidder regardless of their desperation. Rychel is going to be lost on waivers next year by someone to a crap team so it's really just 2 2nd's...gross...
Lets get serious on these offers fellow TML fans.</i></div></div>
To begin, I expect nothing less (or more) from you. You are the worst kind of Leaf fan. The type who seeks to grovel at the feet of other teams fans in order to look "fair", all the while you undervalue our players.
If you can agree that Bozak's value is two 2nds how is Killorn's any more? He has never scored more than 41 points in a season and Bozak, a Centre, has had 49, 49 and 47 point seasons with one of those 49's in 58 games. Killorn also has a 4.5 million cap hit for another 6 years taking him to the age of 33. Ask yourself this, how many teams can afford a) the protection spot and b) the contract?
As for Orlov, WSH is going to lose him for nothing to Vegas, he is also an RFA. Ask yourself again, how many teams can afford a) the protection spot and b) his new contract if he is as great as you make him out to be? I know one team that can't and that is WSH.
And lastly in regards to Manson and your claim that ANH will "keep him". ANH, because of Bieksa's NMC is in a really tight spot. Unless they move Fowler, they have to choose the 8 skater protection method. They would have to protect Getz, Perry, Kesler and Bieksa who all have NMC's and then logic would dictate that they would also protect Lindholm, Vatanen and Fowler. That leaves one spot for one of Rackell, Silvferberg, Cogliano or Manson. And that spot would go to one of Rackell or Silvferberg. So Manson is unprotected. Even if they trade Fowler to allow themselves to go 7+3+1, Manson is still unprotected (Lindholm, Vatanen, Bieksa). At that point a return of Soshnikov + Bracco is fair, and might actually be an overpayment.
