time to move Malkin
We win one playoff game using a 1a 1b 4a 4b line system and people want to trade Malkin. Our 1b was being centered by a guy "older and more broken" than Malkin. No way we come close to winning a cup without Malkin coming back.

mack marchand crosby - not realistic nova scotia line
Even as an American, I just pray that Crosby gets one last shot at playing in the Olympics next year. Obviously Team Canada will be stacked, but it will look quite a bit different than 2014. He would be 39 in 2026.

Hmm I thought he played fairly decent. He's good on the boards and in the neutral zone. McCann looked lost on that line, and there were maybe only two occasions where Carter made room for Kap. I just feel like Carter and Freddy complement each other very well, and McCann can play better centering a line of his own.

Yeah like I said I don't know much about the Canes. I thought Necas was being developed as a center. Either way swapping Nino for Zucker doesn't move the needle all that much for that group. Adding him by moving like a Fast or McGinn maybe makes a bit more sense. Zucker is a strong top 6 guy he's just not meshed all that well with Malkin but has played well with other centers.

I think Zucker to the Canes makes a lot of sense, but I don't think they'd want to give up Nino to do it. I don't know much about the Canes though, it just seems like they are pretty shallow at the wings so this is a somewhat lateral move for a team that will be competing for Cups for the near future.

Matheson has played great, but his contract is still pretty rough and I don't think one year of success is enough to warrant 5 more years of risk to a new franchise. I agree with what you are saying. Zucker offers a top line scoring option, a contract that helps get you to the cap floor, and much less risk only being signed for two more years.

Marcus Pettersson Value This Offseason Plus Moves
I think the biggest issue with moving Pettersson is whether it is pre-expansion or post-expansion. Most teams will not want to take him on only to have to protect him. If I am Ron Francis I'd rather have Matheson or Pettersson than Zucker, depending of course with what is on the table. The Penguins can't really afford to lose both, only having POJ to fill the roster slot on the left side.
I'd be great if Seattle took Zucker, I just really don't see that as a reality.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Rust is better on the RW than LW. And Kap is a RW.
This is the hold up there.
The real solution to this is to put Zucker with Crosby and Jake with Geno.
Everyone knows this.
There are multiple people on here saying this over and over again. But he just refuses to do it.
Jake can play with Geno, there will be no drop in production there. We know this, he's done this already.
You hope to get more out of Zucker with Crosby.
Which he did when he first got here.
Yet Sully can't seem to figure out that it deserves a chance to see what it can do. It's not like he couldn't have done this in season. Now if they do it they have to hope for some chemistry being instant.</div></div>
Jake Geno Kap would be a defensive nightmare for the other team. Maybe some defensive liabilities, but I'm sure it would work. Like you said Sully would never do it though.

Sully likes his duos so I think Jake/Sid, Kap/Geno, Carter/Freddy, Teddy/Tanev will all stay together no matter what. The rest can kind of shake around as needed. What you have above I think makes the most sense, and it became obvious that Sceviour was going to be the odd man odd when Tanev came back it made sense to have that Teddy/ZAR/Tanev line come back together.
I'm not a huge fan of Zucker on the Malkin line, I think Rust could do well there, I think McCann could do well there, but unless there is a need no reason to shake up.

Monster Offseason
I don't think ZAR is worth giving up a 2nd round pick. I you protect Sid, Malkin, Jake, Rust, Kap, McCann, and Teddy I think it is worth taking the risk of losing ZAR to expansion. I'd be more concerned with losing one of Pettersson or Matheson honestly. ZAR is fairly replaceable IMO.

Sullivan needs to wake up and change lines
Have Zucker and Malkin ever worked well together? I was very surprised yesterday seeing those line rushes in practice and then in the game as well. I think if E-Rod doesn't get hurt it would have made the most sense to run him on the Malkin line and leave the Carter, McCann, Zucker line alone. I don't see Sully splitting up Jake and Sid though, but now might be the time to try some stuff out.

What the lines should look like
At this point McCann 100% deserves the top 6 minutes playing on Malkin line. I'd be interested to see how that line performs in a playoff atmosphere. I think Tanev could look decent there as well, add some defense and board grit to the line. Lots of possibilities.

Jack Johnson got a contract this summer. That should tell you how much of a black hole there is in the NHL for defensemen.
He's gonna get paid.</div></div>
Yeah I think all you have to do is look at Justin Schultz. Struggled prior to the Pens, played well with the Pens, got a decent contract with Washington and has continued to play well. Teams will look at that and the risk won't seem as high on Ceci as it was going into this season. He could probably get $3M from another team, but maybe he signs at $2-2.5M with the success he's had.
