Lineup with Simon out
I like these lines. I was pretty drunk by the end of the Sharks game. Did Marleau get a lot of time with Geno in the 3rd period? Seems like that could work and Rust seems to have taken a hit playing the left side. Why we had two right handed wingers on the same line never made much sense to me.

Jack Johnson has been our #2 defenseman for the last 3 months and we are two points out of first place in our division. So tired of this constant argument.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>Maybe performance-based condition as opposed to a re-signing condition then. But I think that you're right though on your initial thoughts of what Poile would want out of a Granlund trade considering he gave up Fiala to get him. I have the feeling that if he doesn't see something he likes then he will just sit on Granlund and try to sign him in the off-season. That would be a big miss for Poile if he doesn't either re-sign Granlund or get a good return for him in a trade. Luckily Granlund is playing much better since Hynes has been head coach, so maybe that is upping his trade value.</div></div>
It's not unheard of to go back to a team who traded you at a deadline, especially in a situation like this. Penguins explain they simply don't have the cap room and Poile leaves the door open on the way out. You're right though, sitting on him to miss the playoffs only to have him test free agency would be a big miss especially if he is peaking towards the end of the year. Plenty of the teams have cap and will be looking for scoring.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>Interesting offer. I'm not especially high on Hallander, but I think he has potential - I'd maybe want a 2nd instead of the 3rd - maybe turns into a conditional 1st if Granlund resigns or NSH also gets another pick next year. However, I don't think the Preds will make a decision on their UFAs until right up to the deadline, so not sure if they even trade Granlund since he is playing very well right now. The Granlund/Zucker connection could be interesting for PIT and that may mean that they would be willing to overpay a bit to get it - who knows.</div></div>
I suppose the pick could be made to a 2nd, conditional 1st if he resigns but the chances of that are fairly slim. He could have to excel, which would likely mean getting paid at his current level or better, which the Penguins wouldn't be able to afford. So it would essentially be a 2nd round pick. Prospect probably gets lower as Hallander is likely the 3rd best regarded offensive prospect in the Penguins system. Granlund fits that age range the Penguins could get the most use out of in the Crosby/Malkin era, but the move-out requirements would be pretty heavy.

I don't think they would even have to give up a prospect depending on Nashville's position. They are only 2 games out of the WC with quite a few games in hand, so I can see them sticking with Granlund, but boy would it be sweet to have crosby center him and Zucker</div></div>
You have the chemistry of Zucker and Granlund, you have the puck support skill set that Simon brings to the table but then you add in the scoring that Granlund has demonstrated in his career. His hockey IQ is up there as feel. I feel like he would be a tremendous fit. I think the Preds would want to get something a bit more than just a pick out of him since they did ship out Fiala for him, who they had contract control over, but who knows.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I'm not sure what Sheary you were watching but he was worthless on the ice. Worked his way down to the 4th line.
If he wasn't related to Sully he wouldn't have gotten that contract or playing time. But that's a different story.
As for Simon, I too don't think he should be on that line, but RW is their greatest weakness. He's not a bad player, hell he can do everything you want a player to do......but find the net with his shot.
You would think after this year he will really work on that. The rest of the game is there. The reason I don't like him is he's no threat to score and that doesn't work on top lines.
But who else can they put there. Hornqvist. Putting Hornqvist on Crosby's line is the best way for the opposing team to slow Crosby down.</div></div>
He signed the contract after scoring 23 goals in like 60 games and scoring 50 points. He regressed from there but that contract didn't seem like a bad idea at the time. At this point I'd take Sheary over Simon on Sid's RW and if there is no risk involved and it is 10 min til the deadline I make that move.

I see there are no Buf fans response yet. They are taking on big Bjug money for another year, retaining on Miller for 2 years, all for a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick? They are trying to be relevant. These aren't the type of moves you make to become relevant. If something happens with Sheary it will be for a like a bottom of a the barrel prospect or late late draft pick. He's a non-factor in Buffalo, UFA at the end of the year, and maybe Buffalo just gives him a shot to play for the Cup.
People hating on Sheary, we are giving Simon 12-15 a night to play with Crosby and now Zucker. I don't hate Simon but that could be even better if you have a guy with a better nose for the net. Sheary has shown that in the past. Is he my first choice? No. Not even my top 10 choice, but he's a cheap risk-free has been proven to work choice that would be a great plan C for JR.

I strongly disagree. Blueger is a bettter 3C at this point. Jumbo Joe is old and slow. He may be a decent add as a 2nd PP, 4C, limited minutes guy for a contender but I wouldn't give up more than a 3rd round pick for him and I certainly wouldn't bench Teddy Blueger for him.

... they gave up their first round pick, which I'm assuming they thought would be in the 20-32 range and a 3rd conditional 2nd round pick and a bunch of could be's. Their loss in the trade is the could be's, and the range of the pick in exchange for Chucky who maybe they could still get a pick out of or maybe they resign him given their history with him. Hall isn't going to resign at this point. They aren't trending towards a playoff spot and they are out a first round pick at this point. Recoup some of your losses and get value while you still can.

Depth everywhere year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bigZ98</b></div><div>youre not wrong, but..... who is to say in the next year there wont be another goaltender duo like Murr and Jarry? Penguins forced vegas to take fleury by giving a pick because they needed the cap relief. We can technically do the same thing by offering a pretty good propsect or pick for them to take maybe a different player. There is Rantta and Kuemper in Arizona, Bobrovsky and the backup that was playing really good i forget his name, there may be a new surprise duo next year. So it is possible we can get away with not giving up either of our goalies</div></div>
First off none of those are 2x Stanley Cup winners, none of them are under the age of 25 (or 29 for that matter), and anything that "pops up" isn't going to be as proven as Murray has been in his short careers. Sure there have to peaks and valleys, but that's going to be the case with any goalie. If I'm the prospective Seattle GM I'm licking my chops at the idea of getting a proven playoff goalie, in his prime, with term to start my franchise off with.

A quick thought on Matt Murray. Obviously so much has to do with how the next 4 months go between Murray and Jarry. Penguins want to sign him long term at the end of this year pretty much regardless. The way I see it is he is either the carrot on the stick for Seattle if Jarry continues to show he is a franchise netminder, or his value is increased even more being a young goalie signed to what will more than likely be a fairly cost effective deal (compared to like Vasilevski who I still think is probably the best comparison in the league you can make. Now if Murray continues to play well as he has done lately and Jarry regresses you can stick with both, or move Jarry. Or if they continue to both play well you can move Murray with term and at a great cap hit to a number of teams in the league prior to the expansion draft.

What makes you think Chucky doesn't sign in Detroit? Out of all the FA destinations he could go Detroit actually makes some of the most sense. He has a chance to play a top 6 role there with ease. He could probably get paid as well.

I very interested in 1. Seeing how Schultz plays when he comes back from injury and how he falls into the fold of the emerging Marino on the right side 2. What the market will even look like for Schultz in the offseason. I don't think he is widely regarded as a good defenseman. I think the league knows the Penguins make the most of the skills in defensemen they have any whether that translates to your team is a bit of a risk. That being said, he could easily get like a $7M contract on the open market.
