I think they take it. Hagelin is going to move at the deadline for a 2nd and maybe more. I don't think Eakin would get that kind of return. He's not playoff proven, where Hagelin has 2 cups and has seen a lot of play off time prior to PIT as well.
I wouldn't do the deal straight up. I'd add a prospect and take another player rather than a swap. Eakin and Merrill/Miller for Hegelin and Archibald/Simon or something like that.</div></div>
The problem is Hagelin had a really bad regular and postseson. And the GMs usually base their trade proposal specially in the last season. Except prospects and young players, of course. Besides, Eakin is younger than Hag.This is why I think it's a straight up trade.
But the idea of a trade among Hagelin, Archibald and a 4th/5th rd pick for Eakin and Miller would be good for us.</div></div>
He had a concussion and a lower body injury and still out produced Eakin though. He was off by 10ish pts. Eakin (kneed injury) was off by 20-30pts and was out played otherwise as well. DAL fans ran him out of town, where as PIT fans still like Hagelin. We just see him as more expendable because of his cap hit, which 150k off from Eakin's. At 28 Hagelin isn't old. just 2 years older than Eakin, who is 26, and Vegas isn't going to win with EITHER of these guys. they're trade chips. A dead line deal for a vet to help on a cup run. Who would you give more for at the deadline?
Eakin has to bounce back to 35-40 pts on an expansion team. If Hagelin puts up 25pt, he's still a 2x cup winner with a wealth of playoff expereince ... maybe some salary retention gets serious assets for an expansion team that's 5 yrs from a play off push, IMO.

I wouldn't want to add the picks. They are center deep and $3m for a player with Sheary's offensive ability, playoff experience, and at 25 is amazing. They're playing Radulov more than 2x that and he produces around the same. I know his numbers are inflated a little with Crosby, but even with out Crosby he's pts/60 don't drop off much. Guentzel's success is as much due to Sheary as to Crosby.
Johns is still a little rough ... maybe a 5th or a pick swap (4th for a 5th or 3rd for 4th).

Not just blocking shots. Playing the body, colliding with other teams best players, taking slashes and cross checks, etc. from angry offensive players. Dump and checking defensemen, forechecking, spending more time on the PK and less on PP or 5v5 to recover. Using their energy and body to keep the other team off the board rather than pushing to producing offense.

At 30 yrs old ... Thorton is 38. He's young in SJ years. He's also point machine and a play off performer. He IS depth scoring. I don't think a first will be an issue, especially from a play off team.
I do think I might be over asking on the 3rd. Braun I took to open cap space on SJ roster, but also because the other 2 are bottom 6 quality players a the moment. So I'm asking for 4th D, a 3rd C, and a good prospect with some NHL time, along with a mid to late 1st round pick for a top 10 player in the league who's making $6.8m when he should be making $8m ... And before the Crosby/Malkin factor gets brought up look at his points in TOR all the way back to BOS.

Roussel is scrapy dude who can put up some numbers and throw down for his teammates ... it also clears more cap space to make Dallas want to make the deal. 4.2m out 7.1m in ... they still need more moves to get under the cap. I'd ask for a young Dman in place of a pick. Johns, Nemeth ... or even one not on their roster yet.
Sheary and Maatta for Faksa, Roussel, Johns, and a 4th ... Not sure they'd want Maatta though as they are pretty heavy on Dman.
Sheary for Faksa and Johns. Sheary new contract makes me not want to trade him though.

Because the top 2 center positions are taken and the 3rd and 4th need to give up their body to play defense, and you don't want to pay $6m dollars trying to play on broken foot or with a broken hand. He can also take the face off and move to wing ... not uncommon for a center to get waved out of the face off circle.

Hagelin is worth more than Slepyshev. I'd think the deal would be more like Hagelin for Slepyshev and a 3rd or 4th.
Where is Scott Wilson? He's got another year to RFA, put up 26 pts, and I don't see him in your trades. Did you put him in the minors? It would make more sense to slot him in LW over Archibald, who could share some time with Reaves. Kuhnackle also plays LW so you could just move him over rather than including him if BUF doesn't absolutely want him, and he's done well on the PK, with similar size, etc. I think Kuhnackle needs to play this year. He put up good numbers, including hits, his skating and size a solid, etc. I know he's had injuries.
Butcher has been said to not want to spend any time in the AHL. I don't think PIT can commit to that.

Trading Guentzel
Sodenberg's NHL career might be over. He's prime for a buyout. He's a cap dump and a huge risk at his term. Asking the max for retention is good. Landeskog I believe has always been a bit over rated so I like the retention ($1m would be enough for me).
Guentzel playing with Duchese or MacKinnon should be great. He just needs a little bit of weight and he's gold. I think Guentzel is worth more than Landeskog at this point, with the playoff he had, the contract he's on, etc. Maatta value is close to Landeskog IMO, maybe with a 3rd. Sodenberg is worth at 3rd or 4th round pick to me, even with the retention his is a contract that can hurt your team for 3 years.
Here's what I'd suggest ...
Guentzel, Maatta, and PIT 2nd (2018)
Landeskog (- $1m), JT Compher, Sodenberg (-$2.375), and COL 1st (2018)
Then make a deal for an NHL Dman ... Vegas has a few. Compher gives us a backup plan if Sodenberg is a bust, or allows Sodenberg to move to wing if Compher's play earns him a spot. Start shopping Kessel at seasons end for prospects, picks, etc.

The Real Pens
Why trade sprong, who might be a top six this year to fill a 3rd line center? He's pretty much a lock to be an NHLer, just a matter of how good. He's projected to be very good and Bozak is a rental that makes more than than PIT would like to pay for 3C. Bozak is a good hockey player, but not what the Pens need. They need a lockdown center for PK who puts up a few points, and can overachieve with Hornqvist and Kessel moving up and down the roster. The don't need a proven scoring line center and would much prefer filling with a guy with more than a single year left before UFA. Bozak gives no return at season end where Sprong and Hagelin both have more time and could be traded for more permanent roles if need be.
Also TOR doesn't have room for the last great winger prospect we traded them. Kaspanen and others are ready for the NHL, but can't crack that roster. Nether Hagelin or Sprong would be very useful to them at this time, except as more assets to trade.

Filling Penguin Holes
Doesn't actually fill any holes. Add rental scoring but makes the team weaker defensively than last year. Wiercioch was an RFA NOT resigned by COL, who then signed for league min and promoting Pouliot from AHL player to NHL top 6 to seek a 3rd cup ... It just doesn't make sense. You're PK is weaker. You have 3 centers you don't want to block a shot or play the body on the PK, etc, and you don't have any cap room should someone get hurt an looking at last season we added 2 defense-men and then lost Ruhwedel and Streit was a bust, 4 Dman played all playoff games ... Daley and Hainsy are gone, as is Gaunce ... It's a giant hole.

I personally would reject the trade. As a PIT GM I wouldn't want Anismov's contract (to much, to long, to many injuries, and he wouldn't be playing 2C which means his production will likely drop off a bunch) ... the only thing worth taking is the 3rd rd pick.
I don't think CHI would move anything PIT would want as both teams have similar strategies with using youth to provide depth and to supplement talent.

You're missing Duclair and some prospects might step up ... But that $20m in caps space can absorb a lot of contracts. Take on a $4-5m bum, a 2nd, and a promising prospect for a ARZ 6th or 7th round pick.
Look to Detriot, Washington, Orpik, Moulson ... Even a multi year contract couldn't hurt that bad.

Moving Soderberg, signing Zadorov and a few more young UFA's.
Basically I see this is a a move to free COL of a bad contract ...
Why would PIT do this deal though? Sodenberg is a HUGE question mark as he played in 80 games last year and couldn't crack the top 10 in scoring on the worst team in the league. He's 31 and under contract for 3 more potentially terrible years. Retaining the max, half his salary is still a huge gamble ... Grimaldi is a 24 year old midget (5-6) who hasn't cracked FLA or COL line up, which means ZERO chance of playing in PIT's and we don't need AHL scoring ... and a 3rd which doesn't help seek a 3rd cup in 3 years.
You're not offering anything enticing enough to make PIT to want to absorb that contract. We'd need 2nd rder and a very solid prospect that is projected to play in the NHL in the next year or 2 in addition to Soderberg ... otherwise they'd just keep the 23yr dman who they've just won back to back cups with and go after a 3C elsewhere, that are younger, cheaper, and less of a risk.

I think it's about over valuing RNH. He's a scoring line center that doesn't score enough points, and he's not a 3rd line center ... and doesn't produce $6m in points. He's offensively gifted by weak.
Why doesn't he play with McDavid or Draistal if he's so great? He's a cap dump who hasn't lived up to his #1 billing ... though still a very talented player.
I'd keep the what you're moving and go after a real 3rd line center that can PK, gives up his body and produces 5 or 8 less points for $3-4m less than RNH.
