What if San Jose traded their 2019 first for karlsson
you mean the 2018 right? Their 2019 1st round pick was already traded to Buffalo (then Anaheim) as a result of re-signing Kane and that was before acquiring Karlsson.
you can basically say the Karlsson trade is the better version of the Duchene trade. I'm sure neither Doug Wilson and Pierre Doiron would've predicted they would unintentionally hand Tim Stuetzle and Bowen Byram to Ottawa and Colorado respectively

I know that losing 2019 4th overall pick was something unexpected but come on...this trade would obviously make the sense lose another top lottery pick even if its not in the top 5.

that's an overstatement. The most realistic comparison to Alexader Romanov would be Dmitry Orlov. He's a good Dman but he's not Elite.

Making it out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PinkWhitney</b></div><div>As of right now they have about 2.9M in cap space. That's probably enough for Cernak. They then will have to trade one or two of Stamkos, Palat, Killorn, McDonagh, Gourde, and Johnson.
I doubt Stamkos is going to get traded because nobody is willing to pay that price.
Nobody wants McDonagh because of his age and contract unless Tampa takes a lowball return.
Gourde is probably immovable.
Johnson is almost as immovable as Gourde.
Killorn and Palat will be the easiest to move and trade them in order to sign Cirelli and Sergachev they lose two top 6 wingers and have zero cap space to replace them and therefore can't put a complete team on the ice.
They can afford to move one of Cirelli and Sergachev because of Stamkos and McDonagh/Coburn. It would be hard to part with Cernak because their only other RD are Schenn and Foote.
Stamkos Point Kucherov
Killorn Cirelli Palat
Goodrow Gourde Coleman
Maroon Paquette Stephens
Hedman Cernak
McDonagh Foote
Coburn Schenn/Rutta
That's a better team than:
Stamkos Point Kucherov
? (No cap for top 6 LW) Cirelli Johnson
Goodrow Gourde Coleman
Maroon Paquette Stephens
Hedman Cernak
McDonagh Sergachev
Coburn Foote
IMO
And that probably doesn't even fit the cap anyway.</div></div>
Maybe have Barre-Boulet as LW who has been amazing in AHL.

Im sure the Cats would rather have Huberdeau than Hoffman. Huberdeau is already on a bargain of a contract for the next 3 seasons and he's better than Hoffman.

He requested a trade from Tampa because he didn't think he had to play in AHL. Heck he didn't even show up at first. Then again, Yzerman didn't budge and let him earn a call up and progressively perform well to increase his value. Good asset management. Pretty much similar Duchene trade or Pacioretty trade.
Habs made a mistake for trading him knowing Sergachev was their only reliable LHD prospect at the time. Didn't even want to sign their other top D in Markov.

Relationship has to be very very very bad when Drouin (and his agent Allan Walsh who stirred the pot and made it worse) successfully forced Yzerman to trade him as a RFA.

No. Having the 7th pick is a huge win for Montreal BUT removing the 7th pick while keeping the rest intact would be a huge win for New Jersey.

Habs get 1st overall
You can't use the Lafleur, Kruvers, Kessel or Duchene because the teams wouldn't have made the trade if they knew the would drop to the rock bottom of the league.
Comparable in terms of actual return would the Yashin, Lindros or Karlsson trades. You have to give at least a premium assets to get premium player.
- Yashin trades was a massive win for OTT but cant forget that Yashin has had amazing seasons w/ both Islanders/Sens. Hence the cost of 2nd pick Jason Spezza and Zdeno Chara. Also, Islanders had a bunch of top 5-10 picks before getting Yashin which made Spezza "expandable"
- Karlsson: technically Sharks paid a premium pick (either Stuetzle or Byfield) to get Karlsson even though looks bad for them now due to Karlsson's most recent performance
- Lindros : no need to explain.

It's a very unrealistic trade but the creator of this post sneaked in a top lottery pick (2021 1st round pick) in the trash bag going back to the Sharks. That's the "wild card"
Stutzle will probably remain in the DEL for the 20-21 season and Byfield needs another year in OHL. The 5th pick needs more development than their 3rd pick. Sens aren't going to fight for playoffs spot so they're set for another top pick in 2021.

Hello Krug and Bye Bye Byram - Just to See It
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>The only very slim way Byram gets traded is if an absolute elite player is coming back like Eichel or Barkov is coming back. 5th OA and Fomenton isn’t getting Byram alone much less Byram and Bowers.</div></div>
This is a reminiscent of the Jones-Johanesen trade except there's a swap of top tier prospect so technically it's kinda fair. (Jones migh be the better player right now but Johansen helped the Preds reach the SCF in 2017)
Can't really value Byram higher than those kids since they're all unproven and top prospects.
If the Avs do make that trade, they'll have a shot at elite prospect in a very deep draft (unlike 2019)...whether is forwards (Raymond, Rossi, Perfetti) or even Yaroslav Askarov (kid has been on fire in the KHL as an 18 year old goalie).
Sens might have many issue but I think they would rather keep the 5th pick than trading it for Byram because that pick will fill 1 of their most important needs (legit #1 goalie prospect or elite forward prospect)

Cayden Primeau is a very good goalie prospect but it's gonna take more than that get Sens' 5th pick. Sens might as well draft Yaroslav Askarov (comparable Vasilevskiy or even Price) than making this trade

even the Sens were able to fetch a 1st for JGP. You can give the argument that Pageau then received a contract extension from the Islanders but then again Andersen is way better than Pageau as a hockey player
