Nemec and Holtz in Henrique comes back

Haula last year: scored 41 pts, won 54% of his faceoffs, had 49 takeaways/ 30 giveaways, +13, and played 155 mins of PK.

Yeah he is overpaid. Yeah he can’t pass. Yeah Holtz might have a better career than Anderson. But right now, Anderson is more valuable than Holtz. Yes this trade is bad, not structured at all. Just wanted to make something clear on Josh Anderson the player, not the overpaid 2nd/3rd liner making 5.5M</div></div>
Feels to much like Erat for Forsberg. I'm not as a high on Holtz as I used to be but if he turns into a nothing-burger I think the Devils would still take that and the future/ current cap flexibility over Anderson.
I do like Anderson as a player just not at that cap hit/ length.

Boston Bruins signed John Farinacci (2 Years / $950,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CSStrowbridge</b></div><div>Yep, and that's really, REALLY bad news for Arizona. They have to get their **** sorted out soon, or they will enter a death spiral. No player will want to sign with them, so they won't have enough talent on the ice to sell tickets, making it impossible to find a permanent home, which will result in fewer players who will want to sign with them, etc.</div></div>
ARZ just had 3 guys resign with them that they traded at the deadline. They're not a top destination but players will sign with them.
Plus they are sticking to the plan of rebuilding, Chayka rushed it Armstrong looks committed to the long term: probably finish 20-25th this year in the standings, move Dumba, Zucker, Brown, Stretcher, O'Brien, Boyd, Dermott at the deadline, take on more bad contracts to hopefully get a 1st round pick, and repeat for 1-2 more years and wait for some of the prospects to develop. It's not fast but I like what they are doing a lot.

Daws is out for a long time and even when he returns, it may take a while to get back to game-ready. Brennan is too young and should be back in juniors.</div></div>
Utica also has Poulter signed to an AHL contract. So should be Kallgren - Poulter to start the year in the AHL.
Looks like its VV - Schmid to start the year. Would love Schneider/ Elliot as a 3rd goalie but not sure if they want to sit in the press box be up and down on waivers.

I did also have Blackwood bouncing back last year soo... we'll see.

If you watched the first game against Vegas and Winnipeg in the playoffs they dominated without Ehlers, then lost Scheifele and Morrissey and didn't stand much of a chance with those loses to the lineup, people sleep on the Jets core</div></div>
The Jets core is good but I feel the reason the Jets haven't started rebuilding is Cheveldayoff has been there for 12 year with only 3 rounds won is on the hot seat now. If they don't do anything this year he might be gone.

Meier - Hischier - Toffoli
Palat - Hughes - Mercer
Bratt - Haula - Holtz
Foote - Mcleod - Bastian
Mercer/ Hughes can split faceoffs (not ideal), lines 2 & 3 more offensive, 1 & 4 more defense.
Agree with giving Holtz best chance to succeed on a easy assignments.

It felt/ feels like an overpay. If Meier helps win a cup/ scores 30+ goals a season for the next 6 years less so.
I like both trades for Meier/ Toffoli, but now prospect pool looks shallow for high-end talent and possibly no 1st for two years in a row is worrying. (11 of the 23 players on the CapFriendly roster are 1st rounders including Lazar and Smith).

An early look at next year
Just sign Mercer to a 3-year bridge deal, same with Nemec and Hughes. Haula expires in 3, Palat/ Marino in 4, and Hamilton/ Siegenthaler in 5. Ideally they want to stay and sign for less, retire, and/or the Devils have the new Mercer/ Hughes/ Nemec waiting in the wings.

Or trade/ send down Lazar/ Smith and run 3 goalies; with Quick as the 1C (5-15 games).
I believe in Schmid, but also believe in Blackwood. Honestly don't think it be a bad idea to have a experienced vet in the locker room to play a few games mentor VV and Schmid.

Kinkaid is a great locker room guy but I think we gotta stick to our playbook.
Also I hate your username considering Shero is at least 55% responsible for the success of this team.</div></div>
I just prefer a veteran goalie in the AHL if you can get one.
Also if I remember correctly I was drunk and hated the Subban trade. In hindsight Shero did decent but I think he tried to jumpstart the rebuild to quickly and took 1 step forward 2 steps back, but it did get the Devils Hughes soo...

Parise no, Schneider/ Kinkaid I wouldn't mind as a 3rd goalie. Get someone familiar with the system, willing to play in the AHL, mentor Daws, and sit on the bench for a couple games in case of injury while letting Daws play in the AHL.
Quick would be ideal (playoff experience) but don't know if he want to sign with the Devils and would have to carry 3 goalies I'd think.

Nah.
Plus Myers would be the perfect fit: former 1st round pick, calder winner, hits, blocks, shots, plays loads of PK, might be cheap to get, and only on contract for one more year so doesn't block Nemec/ Hughes long term. Myers would be a more defensively minded Severson.

But Jack is averaging 20 mins a game; meaning he will have to take faceoffs. Hughes only won 35% of his faceoffs and his usage rate isn't going to go down.
It might be simplistic but in my mind, more faceoff wins means more touches for Hughes and more goals/ assists.
