This will be tragically overshadowed by the David Kampf extension.

But how does this effect the Maple Leafs >?

Oh yea, this means Nylander on a 8 year deal is worth closer to $10 million.

Bit too much money. I saw him getting max 8.5 mil for 7 years or an 8x8 deal.

It's too much money. Yes, he did score 40 goals last year for the first time in his career, but he only managed 26 assists.

That said, with the cap going up, it will hopefully not be too much of a problem.

This team is set for a long time.

I can't keep myself from comparing their core to Toronto. Low AAV, long terms for their top6, allowing them to have more cap flexibility for depth through their roster. Hit or miss, at least they will have a bit of wiggle room to add pieces through the years.

Good deal, Meier has looked like a 1st liner and while in New Jersey, his production dropped off a bit, i'd expect him to do better as he gets used to his teammates

It is impossible to judge this signing before the actual terms are released (trade protection, salary structure, signing bonuses).

If he didn't get a NMC, and if the salary structure and signing bonuses do not prevent a buyout, then this is a huge win for New Jersey. If it is one of those contracts where the player has total control, I would argue the AAV is a bit high. Which doesn't mean it's a bad contract.

The window for the Devils to win is the next 4-5 years. There is nothing to suggest Meier will take a step back during that time. The back half of the contract has risk to it, but with the possibility of a salary cap that could approach 100M by year 5 of this contract, 8.8M might be closer to 2nd line money than star money.

People who are voting no are out of their minds. They're just looking at his playoff stats from this past year and have never actually watched the guy,
Anything under 9 is an absolute steal.

Good, glad they didn't give him $10M. He's worth 8-9 for sure, but not 10.
