(ARI/LAK) - 2024 2nd (MTL) for Durzi
Yeah yeah, logjam at RD and whatnot, the Kings could have squeezed a little more out of him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Cannon</b></div><div>Very true. Nashville had two of their retention slots tied up for a long time (unlike a deadline deal) which will make their deadline deals much harder moving forward. As they will only have one slot to work with while moving players out.
I think the flyers are more protective of them as per the provorov trade and taking on the bad goalie contract instead of retaining on him. It’ll be a very interesting draft to see what the flyers try and do. They are shopping their entire roster so would the be willing to use a retention slot to turn a currently negative asset into a slightly positive one?</div></div>
Well put.
I’m very interested in the new Flyers under Briere. I’m willing to bet they’re going to use one on on DeAngelo, but I think the big deal will be them using one to crank the return on Konecny to the maximum. Konecny at 2.75M would be such a coveted asset.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Cannon</b></div><div>True, but I don’t think the longer term is necessarily a positive for either party. Teams want short term solutions and money off the books asap. I agree Hayes will probably get more than ryjo but not much. Maybe a forth and a guy like Robinson or Bemstrom.</div></div>
I think my concern with term has more to do with asking a rebuilding club to tie up a retention slot for a longer period of time, something that’s been proven in recent years to help them recoup assets at the TDL. But yeah, probably still won’t give them what we were thinking prior.
I’m not sure what Nashville is doing because they’ve now spent 2 of theirs on a menial amount of money with Ekholm (something like 500k), and now on no return for Johansen.

I think if last season is any indicator, I’d rather have Hayes at ~3.5M than Johansen at 4M. Hayes contract also has more term on it, so you’re paying for a longer period of retention as well. Return might not be as high as they’d once hoped, but they won’t give him away for free if he’s retained.

Different
I think I’d prefer the Kings focus on spending their cap spending in areas of greater need (LD and G), but I’d welcome Sharangovich as a lineup replacement for Arvidsson if he signs cheaply enough.

Nashville is just confusing to me. Are they trying to contend? Rebuild? What’s the direction?
Weird that they didn’t get anything despite taking on that much retention, but then again that might’ve been required just to move off of that contract, and 4M in cap space is 4M in cap space.

I don’t mind Grushnikov, and I’d be fine with that return, but if the Kings trade Durzi it’ll be to get Spence or Clarke in the lineup. Not a big use for Miller.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LordStanlersCup</b></div><div>https://dailyhive.com/edmonton/oilers-open-moving-philip-broberg-improve-roster</div></div>
To upgrade the roster, as any contender should, but they aren’t going to trade Broberg just for the sake of trading him. They’ll only do it if Holland sees it as a legitimate upgrade to the roster, which he obviously hasn’t yet given the trade talks Broberg has come up in.

What is Brobergs price
It’s known Broberg is Holland’s crown jewel in his assortment of prospects. He’s been unwilling to give him up when asked to several times now over the years. Wasn’t willing to part with him for Chychrun, so it’ll likely take a star for Kenny to part with him.

That’s a package I think LA could live with, but the question still remains as to what Dubois is signing for. Kings will have a hard time fitting him in at his current long-term ask, and he likely won’t take less unless it’s a one year deal that walks him to UFA, which then I don’t think the Kings would want to give up as much.
No need for Stanley. Can just replace him with a pick or whatnot if necessary.

Dubois should go to Montreal for nothing less than this
Gavrikov has a NMC and Schmidt has a M-NTC. Lots of red tape to potentially cut through, and the Kings likely don’t consider trading that for a would-be rental.

Hellebuyck and a lot of nothing for 2 top 4 D and a top 6 F. That’s a no from LA before counting cap and contracts.
I hope the Jets can get a sweet return for him, but that’s an outlandish ask for a would-be rental.

Yeah I think the words are being misinterpreted here. By no means am I saying Durzi = Pesce haha. I do hope the Canes keep him, but in the event they don’t I think Durzi could fill the void better than Chatfield.

I sure wish that we had Soucy and McCabe instead of Gavrikov plus whoever. (My personal hobby horse.)</div></div>
Had I known Chicago was going to retain 50% on McCabe I would have gladly paid the price Toronto paid last year for him, plus interest. The Leafs would be stupid to let that unicorn of a trade go to waste now.
I debated a hypothetical trade up given the amount of 2nds that were acquired, because I think if the Kings end up drafting somebody, Blake should be swinging for the fences on a player like Gulyayev as opposed to the other LDs (though don’t get me wrong, I love Morin and Molendyk). Use another 2nd on Hrabal or Bjarnason.

I really don’t think a low 2nd and a prospect of Seeley’s level is an overpayment, though I figured if any of these trades received backlash it was going to be that one.

They almost can’t, with their commitment to Huberdeau, Weegar and Kadri. Would be stupid to tear it down and have them just kinda chill as it all goes on (sure the latter two could probably be traded as well, but Huberdeau is almost immovable). I can’t see them trading Lindholm or anyone else without getting youthful NHL players in return.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>soooonk</b></div><div>I think a lot of Flames fans want a rebuild, the owner just won’t let it happen.</div></div>
They should have gone after Lundell last year imo. This would be a perfect opportunity for it, but they’ve kind of locked themselves into trying to compete I feel.

If it walks like a rebuild
The issue from LA has never necessarily been “what do we have to give up?”. It’s always been “how do we build a competitive team with Dubois making ~9M?”, which just isn’t possible without gutting the team of depth and using a bunch of middling NHL players to make the cap work.
Making this trade leaves the Kings no space to address other needs they have like a starting goalie and LD without FURTHER stripping the forward core of talent. It just isn’t a great scenario for them.

Only way it happens
Unless Dubois is going to swallow his pride and is signing for a lot less than reported, still doesn’t make sense for the Kings. I don’t think this team is any better than last years.
Edit: but I’d agree Durzi and Kaliyev are likely the core pieces in that trade.
