One Final Trade
as a habs fan i would take a 4th for armia, hell if a third team got involved and took a 3rd from dallas to retain 50% i'd be down to get nothing in return for armia. His contract needs to be 50% retained to have any real value but habs arent going to waste a retention slot on him for two years but he does have upside for a playoff run.

TDL and still out of it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Maybe, but with their depth at defense, especially with prospects/youngsters (Guhle, Harris, Barron, Struble, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Trudeau, etc...and youre never going to play more than 3-4 youngsters) and the quality of the BUF 2nd (a top 40 pick), Im not sure they get much more. I know X has a legend attached and is a fan favourite, but a high 2nd for a tough guy/3rd pairing guy is good return based on MTL needs.</div></div>
On Mtl need lol. What are Mtl need?? Top 6 forward. That the on’y need they have. They have over 30 pick in the next 3 draft and be adding to that at the deadline. Trading Xhekaj for a second round pick does fix anything and clearly ain’t enough to pull the trigger. Xhekaj is a unicorn and unless the return is irresistible he won’t be move. On of Struble, Harris, Kovacevic, Barron, will be the odd man.
Second round pick are not a need let make that clear

Holtz for Guhle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Romanov had a year left on his deal.
Dach was a RFA.
Edge: Romanov
Both Guhle and Holtz have 2 years left on their ELCs
Edge: Nobody
If anything it favours Holtz in the comp.
The swedish pro league is VERY tough to score in especially as an 17-18 year old. Just look at Eklund (also 7th overall)
He scored 12 goals in 90 games there.
In the swedish Jr league Eklund scored 12 goals in 31 games
Holtz scored 37 goals in 41 games
Holtz in his age 19/20 season was top 10 in the AHL in goals/game.</div></div>
We're on capfriendly, its not hard to see that Romanov was an RFA:
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/alexander-romanov
Dach is also a center.
And that's great, but you're arguing that he can sustain what he's doing now, which would be one of the best rates in the NHL (and one of the better ones in NHL history). Being better than Eklund isn't the standard you're arguing.
Again, this isn't a knock on Holtz or his upside, but you're not even close to convincing most Habs fan that this makes sense for Montreal NOW.

Holtz for Guhle
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>They've done it before when they traded Romanov for Dach. If the defensive prospects are as good as montreal fans claim they should have no problems with a long term D core of
Matheson-Reinbacher
Hutson-Mailloux
Xhekaj-Barron
Harris
What montreal doesn't have is the ability to score 5v5. No player on montreal has more than 7 goals 5v5. Holtz at 21 in bottom 6 minutes has 11</div></div>
Are you really trying to compare Guhle with Romanov? The last time Montreal traded their top defensive prospect (that played a game with the team) they traded Sergachev for Drouin. And we all know what happened. Montreal should not move from Guhle and Matheson on the LD top 2 pairings. Only once if Hutson can play in the NHL I will rethink that opinion.
Also, the only reason they traded Romanov is because of Xhekaj was signed. Bottom pairing defense. It also filled a need at the time. Most people would agree it was a good chain of events of those trades.

I think Mony gets a late first or equivalent too but there are plenty on here that don’t and will argue with you until the bitter end so just avoid engaging and we’ll see what happens when the real deal materializes.
Yeah I think Allen is only going to fetch a third tops even retained but hey I hope I’m wrong!
Pezzetta is super well liked and does his job well without complaining why even bothering moving him for a 5th?
Last trade is super interesting, well done. Wonder what Buffalo fans think.

Realistic other than Allen. I honestly think Allen would be an absolute stud on a team like Carolina, Colorado or New Jersey. But I just don't see a team paying a second. I think someone offers a 4th or 5th with no retention and thats what they eventually accept.

The Defence Rests

Hope he cashes in. Reality is he's a 30yr old player who's bounced around teams and is playing on a salary that's at the league minimum. Don't really care if the Sens go after him or not - simply an example of a bottom 9 vet player and salary the Sens should be chasing. If not him, then a player who can fit into the bottom 9 at a good price.

No point buying our Wideman. Just put him on waivers and see if he clears or not. I also don't think they need to buyout Armia yet either. Just waive him and send him to the AHL. They don't need the cap this year. They can buy him out at years end if they really want. I assume the buyout is a lot more manageable doing this next year. Or they can trade a pick + him to another team if they really want their full cap in 2 years time.

Petry to Detroit confirmed
I don't think there is any way the Canucks can do that unless MTL wants to take back cap. They are already over if Pearson is healthy, which is sounds like he is. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a better back up and Desmith is perfect. But the cap is an issue.
