EDM-BOS talking. Maybe?
A 4 year 20 million dollar deal for Riley Nash is a no-go. Bruins can't afford that for a guy that plays the way he does. Pass on Maroon as well. Had inflated numbers because he has spent most of the last two seasons with the best offensive player in hockey.

John Carlson Sign and Trade with Toronto and bringing back Mike Green
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Thunderbird838</b></div><div>I think it would be Smarter for Brian MacLellan to do a Sign and Trade with John Carlson rather than let him walk away for nothing I’m thinking like a GM</div></div>
Of course it would be smarter for MacLellan to do this, but he can't do it on his own. He needs Carlson and the Leafs to be on board with it, and this makes no sense for either of them to do it.

John Carlson Sign and Trade with Toronto and bringing back Mike Green
Just curious if Carlson is going to be a FA with no restrictions on where he signs do you think he agrees to a sign and trade where the team he is going to is giving up 3 first round picks in the deal.... does that not make the team around him weaker.
For a sign and trade to work the player being signed and traded needs to get something out of the deal.... usually it is that 8th year.
I think Carlson would say no I am not signing that deal and just go and negotiate his own deal direct with Toronto.
What am I missing?

And pretty similar to Tarasenko, considering they didn't pay for UFA years. I have no doubt that this is going to be a good contract. Congrats Bruins fans.

Crazy.
Before the start of the year McPhee was licking his chops at the return he was going to be getting for all these guys if they played half decent. Now, he finds himself on the other side of the pickle. The team is playing so well that he needs to reevaluate who he should prioritize keeping...
I can't believe how well they are doing. All I know is this is good for hockey and the NHL. Anyone hesitant about paying the expansion fee is getting much more lenient with the results of LV this year, I would think.

Edmonton Oilers signed Leon Draisaitl (8 Years / $8,500,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goldie078</b></div><div>McDavid + Draisatl are probably better than Crosby + Malkin at the same age. What's crazy are the jumps in price between RFA and UFA years.
Salary cap and salary distribution over the roster feel different. I doubt the cap goes up in the next 10 years like it has for the last 10. Seems like a few forward stars get all the money + term and everyone else is replaceable.
I can't fault the Oilers on this deal, even if developing circumstances lead to it ruining the team.
Actually, this deal is less about McDavid + Draisatl + Talbot + ... This deal puts pressure on Russell and Lucic who have both term, no-trade clauses, and depending on the depth chart possibly expensive contracts.</div></div>
umm that's how it should be. Players like Drai/McDavid should be making the money instead of players like Russell/Hanzal/Bonino/etc. getting massively overpaid as UFAs when they are all replaceable. It's a scary fact to face because it's new but I love this. Old mentality was to rip off RFAs and overpay for UFAs and now we are seeing an appropriate change from RFAs getting paid what they should and UFAs making less (as 90% of them should). Paid on present value and future value instead of old UFAs getting paid for past performance is a great sign. Maybe this signals a change of mindset for GMs in the NHL and the collusion can begin to stop and we don't have to see $4M contracts given out to players like Kucherov/Arvidsson while players like MDZ/Gagner/Alzner cash in over them.

Obviously I am not hoping anyone is hurt, but if McDavid goes down, or they have to shake up lines and Drai is on a line with any two other guys I don't think he is an 8.5 mill player. He is an absolute stud, but at 8.5 million there will surely be a few years out of the 8 that the contract is looking pretty bad.

Boston resigning zdeno chara for 1 year 5 mill is a good deal... despite his age he is the tallest player in the NHL which means he is in technical terms the closest player in the NHL to God. We all know that in the recent times with the behaviour of Brad Marchand the Boston Bruins truly need Jesus.

I've been surprised by these large $$$ contracts handed out by teams for older veteran players like Joe Thornton (8 million?), Marleau (6 per?) and now Chara @ 6.750 million.
And people still say Seabrook is a bad contract? sure the term is screwed up but it's market value.</div></div>
Its really $5 million + the bonus so he's not guaranteed the $6.75 million. He's making $4 million this year, so its really a $1 million raise with potential for more. For a guy whose playing at the level he is for his age, I'll take it.
