<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>I suppose I should've specified that it's the cap and timing that limits it, not that Pesce is lacking. Even adding the extra 750k in difference between Pesce and Ceci really limits the team's ability to ice a mostly-full roster. For me, it's best to focus on getting the RFAs locked up without going too tight to the cap. Bouchard 3 * 1, McLeod 1.75 * 2, and Lavoie 775k * 2 should leave them around 1.6mil to add a proper 4C and still have not be too tight to the cap with a 22-man roster. At the deadline once some cap space has been accrued through the season, then I could see them pursuing Pesce for a package like this. The problem is that I think Carolina is going to move him well before then.
As for your specific point about any of Broberg, Holloway, or Lavoie going out to "balance the numbers", unless you're intending to ice a 20 or 21-man roster, that's not going to save you much of anything.</div></div>
Now that makes sense!
Cheers mate.

What are you talking about? Ceci can be traded & would be traded, plus anyone of Broberg, Holloway, foegele or Lavoie to balance the numbers.
Pesce numbers defensively are better than Ekholms.
Holland agrees with the trade.

Bouchard. camp can pound sand, Bouchard doesn’t have arbitration rights, according to the CBA the Oilers are required to qualify Bouchard at 10%.
Now, that’s being a total dick move the Oilers can offer Bouchard 3M plus 1M in bonuses that will be easily hit.
Also, the Oilers played with 4 centres, it’s the wingers that would sit out.

A couple problems here.
You have no 4th line centre.
In my opinion you’ve given McLeod, Kostin and Bouchard too much money. One year deals or bonus structure the deal.
Kostin 1M
McLeod 1M
Bouchard 3M
That saves you 1.7M
Parayko contract is forever and a big man like that might break down soon, big risk.

Insane request, why would the Oilers redo a trade Grier shot down?
SJ need to come to grips that EK contract is so bad it’s funny.
Furthermore, why would the Oilers trade within there division & give away cost control & 8 years of UFA status for an overaged Defencemen who can’t play defence. Oilers problem is SV% at 5v5 & scoring, trading for a leaky Dman was a bullet dodged by the Oilers.

Let me start off by saying I personally don’t like this trade, SJ absolutely missed the boat with the Oilers trade request & they’re stuck wit a piss poor defence.
Having said that, Ceci plays 37% against elites about 5-7 minutes a game vs elite players automatically making him SJ second best defensive player & best RHD (Defensively)
Phillip Broberg is tracking as a top 4 Defender who plays both sides.
Also, you have no goalie……
The picks to me are ridiculous to give up to an overages player who can fall off a cliff at any minute.
Not only that, we have cost control on Bouchard for another 10 years, you have an overage player that makes 4M to much.
If I was a SJ fan the very thought of dumping that 11M contract would be paramount as an Oiler fan I’d keep both Ceci & Broberg before helping the SJ sharks out of a horrible contract.

Hertl will probably still be viable by the time we are competitive again but trading him isn't a bad idea if the return is good.
We are in a rebuild, so yes we will continue to suck until these magic beans start to pay off. Paying for short term players is a losing strategy for teams who are trying to completely rebuild their rosters/systems. It's like buying tickets to a concert you know you're not going to be in town for.</div></div>
You have no RHD, EK will be gone soon. Nobody in the SJ organization has said “Rebuild”, further to that you have nobody to trade.
My point is SJ fans can piss and moan about a player all day long, the fact is Grier makes that trade Ceci for a late pick) all day long.

Kynyzhov is LD and the reason he's been up and down is due to injury. Simek Vlasic and Macdonald can all slide over to the right, but its not ideal. None of this actually matters in a discussion about whether or not the Sharks should trade for Ceci though. We shouldn't be trading for anyone who doesn't further the rebuild. Yes Cody Ceci would fit in well in SJ. If you'd like to send him over for free we'd be thankful, but otherwise we'll keep the 7th and use it to draft a player that will be with the organization longer than two years.
We're not going to win anything next year or any time soon. Cody Ceci won't change that before he walks in free agency two years from now and so he isn't worth a 7th (to the Sharks). If he's as amazing as you say I'm sure there will be a line of contenders happy to pay a 7th for him.</div></div>
Have you actually ever read the statistics of ANY player making the NHL past the 3rd round? Ceci has two years left on his contract, a normal pick takes 3-4 years to mature.
So suck it is for SJ.
How much longer do the veterans of the SJ hang around waiting for these magic beans to appear?

On what? Getting better?
Your R side consist of EK - Benning who couldn’t make the Oilers bottom pair full time when they weren’t good, same as in Nashville & a Russian tweeter who spend just as much time in the AHL.
Meanwhile, Ceci has played 37% of his time vs elites.
He would instantly be your number 2 RHD but most likely push EK down to second pairing.

Look at the Ekholm deal.
3 firsts plus a 4th and a legit top 5 offensive defenceman
JP traded so the Oilers could use his cap to acquire Ekholm.
Reid Schaefer
1st rounder in 2023
4th rounder.
Pesce is every bit as good as Ekholm. Oilers set this precedent & I don’t know why you’re surprised.

SJ RHD is as follows EK who wants to be traded, Matt Benning who wasn’t good enough on the Oilers to be even a 3rd pairing Dman or Nashville’s 3rd pairing Dman and an absolute tweeter in Nikolai Knyzhov who is jumping back and forth to the AHL and Cody Ceci a RHD who has played 37% against elites for the last 3 years isn’t good enough?

Ya, almost identical to the Ekholm trade so I ‘m not sure which part has you confused?
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/what-the-oilers-get-and-give-up-in-bold-trade-for-mattias-ekholm/
Oilers traded the1st round pick and 4th overall pick (Puljujarvi) in order to move money to make the Ekholm trade work.
Then they sent Reid Reid Schaefer a 1st round pick
They sent the 1st overall pick in 2023
They sent a 4th overall pick.
Let’s count the 1st overall picks together 1 - JP 2 - Schaefer 3 - the 2023 pick
Now before you say anything else, You’re going to say the JP pick went to Carolina……Yes, but Holland mentions in the article the Ekholm trade was the main reason JP was traded.
Ether way, the return on Ekholm was 2 firsts and a top ten scoring RHD.
So your giving up to much isn’t any different then what the actual team gave up.
