Yes we need to tank for at least 2-3 years. We lack superstars (A defensemen next if we do not pick 1-2) . I hope we're not trading for Dubois.

Crazy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRafiki</b></div><div>I don't think this addresses Toronto's desperate need for D, nor does it maximize Marner's value. The team needs two top-4 defencemen and Marner is the best card they hold. it would be a waste to use him to get PLD and another middle-six forward. Matthews needs to be re-signed or this team implodes, pure and simple. Failing that, the Leafs have the same problem with Matthews as the Jets have with PLD. Once Matthews is figured out, the Leafs can figure out whether they're going all in or rebuilding from a position of strength.</div></div>
Re Matthews. He has publicly stated he wants to resign and the rumour is he is willing to do 3 years at $13.5-14M. Not ideal but seems like it solves the short term concern.
Re Marner's value, it's going to be hard to maximize no matter where you send him. Most teams that can make the trade you are talking about don't have the cap space for him.
Re Leafs Needs, I think the idea that the Leafs need better defenseman is wildly overblown. Our problem has always been goals we had 2 or less goals per game in our last 7 games. I'm not advocating for more scorers. If you watch the Leafs in the regular season they do a lot of high cycling, passing to the point passes on the top of the perimeter, through the slot. In the playoffs teams tend to compress defensively and it gets harder to do that. You don't see Matthews/Marner wheeling around the top of the zone anymore and doing big loops with the puck. Instead teams need to hit hard create space low and get to the net. So I'm essentially trying to build a team that can play that style and forecheck hard. O'Reilly, Knies, Dubois, Bertuzzi are all hard forecheckers. So they both help the D by trying to dispossess in the offensive zone and they help the offense by creating panic in the other team below the goal line.
Those are just my thoughts, fully aware that there are people way smarter than me that have different opinions.

For Macklin Celebrini? Hell yes we are tanking again. Montreal's rebuild is far from over (Another 2-3 years), why not spend each of those years going for the highest pick?

No it's not a bad deal at all. Beck+1st is a decent rental offer, but habs fans keep acting like Dvorak is some valuable piece. He's a mediocre 3C and that was before he got knee surgery

He's a very good player who can be a foundational piece on an already good team. But in terms of lighting up the scoreboard, Smith is the much better option.</div></div>

And if that was the type of player to compliment the pieces already in columbus, 100% Smith is the choice. But Columbus already has Kent Johnson and Jonny Gaudreau, small high-offense, high-IQ players. What they don’t have is the big two-way guy. I’ll accept it if Smith is who they pick, but I won’t be happy.

GM Doug Mackenzie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRafiki</b></div><div>A week ago, I would have freaked out at this suggestion and I still don't like it. But after the hatchet job in The Athletic on contract values, I've begun to reconsider whether Suzuki is entirely indispensable. I've concluded that he's not. Would Dubois-for-Suzuki be the basis for a good trade? I think so. The rest is details. That said, I think Hughes and St.Louis are keen to see what Suzuki and Caufield can do together in a whole year under the new administration.</div></div>
Quote from article: “ Personally, I’m excited to see how wrong this one is.
I’m reporting it how the model spits it out now, and as you’ve read — the best framing for each of these players is one born out of optimism. Nick Suzuki deserves the most optimism given his age and previous trajectory. His comps make that even rosier, pushing his positive value probability from 24 percent to 35 percent (inclusion on this list is based on the former number).“
He doesn’t necessarily believe his metrics on Suzuki imo

Very wishful thinking. But let's hope.
And do t forget Gally's ntc...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsRafiki</b></div><div>I don't think you understand how the off-season cap works. It's not $82.5M but $90.75M until the season starts. If someone gives an offer sheet for Dach, the Habs can match and then figure out how to offload some salary or pull a Tampa (and cheat their asses off on the cap).
Also, because of his age, the Habs could also buy out Hoffman for $1.666M for the next 4 years, easily opening up the space needed for Dach.</div></div>
Yes I know its not going to happen, just making a point that we nor anyone else are doing favours for MTL or any other team for that matter. Its been reported that its harder to move cap this year then ever before....
