Figure it out - With Trade

I did watch the game. Steel had a solid second period. But I thought compared to how that line looked in preseason Steel showed some shakyness. His move and near miss from the slot was definitely a nice moment. But he missed a lot of passes, was only 20% in Faceoffs, and only recorded one SOG.
I am fairly certain Ritchie was on Getzlafs line. He definitely was at the start of the game. Not sure if that changed at some point. Unless you are consider Getz's line at third line. Regardless, I rather him be in the press box.
I think the Defense was fine. Particularly Cam. Guhle and Larsson were definitely held to less minutes and that made sense. I think Manson and Lindhold had bad moments. But for 24 Minutes TOI, that will happen. Holzer was hot garbage.

I think Ritchie is worth a 2nd. But Maybe not Detroits 2nd. They also have Washingtons 2nd, so maybe that would be fairer value? Considering they are almost guaranteed a playoff spot.

Opening Night Lineups
I don't see Ritchie and SIlf ever being on the same line. Just not much chemistry or complimentary play style. Though I think Henrique will try to find a groove with any wingers.
I also don't see Rakell and Silfverberg being broken up. That just seems like a duo we want to run and they worked well in preseason. Steel or Lundestrom will center them for sure.
It seems like getz is making a point to have Comtois as his LW this year so that will be exciting to watch. Comtois would easily hit 40 points were that the case.
Guhle and Fowler also seem to be a sure fire thing. At least while we lack RD.
I think you have the right people, just not the places that make sense based on what has worked so far.

I think that's the expectation right now. I think if he felt he was going to stay in the AHL long term he would go back to Europe. Seems like he's accepted his assignment for now. He's a bit slower than I would like, but if he can shape up as a stay at home defensmen he could round out that third pairing nicely.

I like Comtois and Jones for different reasons. But in general I like watching Jones style of play. He's creative, scrappy, and has some hands. Comtois is really poised and has a solid shot. I think in this case, Getz seems to like play with Comtois a lot. I personally would replace Ritchie with Jones.

Rowney is a solid 4th line guy. If he is swapping with anyone it's likely Grant.
I'm not exactly the biggest Ritchie fan to begin with, but I think in general every player this year has to earn their spot. Ritchie was okay in camp. But better than Rakell? No. Better than Jones? Not really. Better than Comtois? Meh. Better than Shore? Maybe. He will end up in the line up at some point. But I rather him not. I rather move him for a RHD.
Our D is fine. Guhle and Fowler have me excited honestly. Larsson has looked better. MDZ is there.

Agreed. More likely Comtois. I see Comtois and Lundestrom tearing up the AHL till next season. But I would be fine if he stayed up too. Rowney impressed me a lot last year. He really earned his spot and was rarely a liability. Grant can swap in when needed, but Rowney makes that 4th line stable.

Sprong isnt a 4th liner, he will never be, plus FHCGMBM doesnt want him there, why he got waived, and I believe that Steel is also waiver exempt, and Lundestrom has looked fantastic on the Swede line, and i would put Kase with Getz, Getz's line hasn't looked fantastic (I haven't watched much though... East coast sucks sometimes) with a guy like Sam Carrick on his wing with Comtois</div></div>
None of this was based on actuality. This is just what I would do. But I guess I might as well justify my opinions:
A lot of the lineup focuses on protecting players from the expansion draft. Right now, this is how I see protections going:
(7/3/1) > Henrique, Kase, Silfverberg, Rakell, Steel, Comtois, Terry / Lindholm, Fowler, Manson / Gibson
(8/1) > Henrique, Kase, Silfverberg, Rakell, Lindholm, Folwer, Manson, Guhle / Gibson
As it is, we are exposing a LOT of good young players. Larsson, Mahura, Jones, etc.
I put Sprong on the 4th line because I want him to have a chance to outplay Kase and Terry. If he doesnt, I think we give up on the Sprong experiment like Pitt did. AHL won't help him as he will probably produce fine down there. He needs to find consistency.
I REALLY like the Swede line. That being said, because I like Lundestrom so much, I rather him not have 2019-20 count against him or his contract. Ducks are a bubble team, not likely a Stanley Cup team. Rakell and Silf will be here next year. I rather play Steel now than Lundestrom as Steel will be 1 of top 6 Centers until Zegras is ready. The future of Zegras being 1C and Lundestrom or Steel being 2C is only a few years away.
I like Getz with Kase, but I also like him with Terry. I think Henrique and Kase have good chemistry and Henrique puts him in less dangerous situations. Getz is use to playing with power forwards and stronger guys, and Kase is just too injury prone to be that guy, Carrick is fun to watch and a great call up option. But much lower on the depth chart for me.

Agreed that it sounds like a 3rd is the ask. I would gladly give that up for a depth RD that could play now and have an impact.
Ritchie for Perrault makes little sense though. Taking on a bigger contract for a older and more expensive player.

I really like Mahura but at this stage I really think he could benefit being the guy in San Diego until inevitable injuries come around.</div></div>
Couldn't agree more. The positive is Larsson and Eakins have been working together awhile. Mahura is still a little more fresh. But Larsson is definitely on a short leash. I think the whole D is aside from the main 3.

I honestly rather see Sprong in top 9 for sure. But I dont think sitting out will help him much either. Thats what killed his progression in Pit. But like I said, I see the 4th line being a rotating cast all year.

Opening night roster looking clearer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheJoeMan</b></div><div>I'll be shocked if that's how the 3rd d-pair shakes out, especially with how good Larsson-Del Zotto looked last night. I fully expect Mahura to be the last d-man cut. Holzy is a perfect spare d-man and I think that's where he'll start.
I really don't like the idea of Terry on Getzy's wing. They play too similar a game and I think they'll cancel each other out a bit.</div></div>
I agree that Holzer probably wont be the final RD. Del Zotto makes more sense in the lineup and it seems like thats why they signed him. But to me Mahura and Larsson are a toss up. I thought Mahura looked solid too overall. He made some decent picks and played fairly responsibly. I expect the top 4 to stay what it is for sure while the bottom 2 could see a lot of mix and match.
And I kind of think thats why I like Terry with Getz. They think alike, play a similar game, are both really creative, but Terry actually shoots and has decent skating ability. Kase and Getz to me just doesnt make us much sense. Kase doesnt have that finished sort of style needed. He skates well and tried to find space or create opportunities on the rush.

Basing anything off of last year is a bad idea. Everyone were at record lows. If you look at 17-18 Season, Rakell was 34/35/69 while Drouin was 13/33/46. Kase was 20/18/38 in just 66 games. Drouin is just simply not the best forward.

Lindholm is only 25 now and has a few years left of Prime. Fowler could be leaving his. We just saw Blues overpay for Faulk, who is very comparable. I think MTL would take Fowler at the same value. I would be apprehensive to give Mahura or Larsson top 6 minutes. Guhle maybe, as he has looked really solid in preseason. Its also worth mention Folwer is playing the right side anyways so even more reason to move him. We also have Jackson LaCombe in the system now who is projected to be a middle pairing LD.

Fowler is easily moved before Lindholm at this point. But I think gaining a RHD for LHD just makes us that much weaker on the left. It makes more sense to move forwards.
Also moving Kase for a pick doesnt make much sense considering how young he is. The whole point of rebuilding is moving big contracts and older players. Getz, Silf, Henrique would be the more likely targets I think.

Yeah looking at what Dallas is asking for, it seems they want the draft pick more than anything.
But GMBM has a habit of overpaying Defensemen. I dont see it being less than 2 Mil. Though it could be a backloaded contract like most bridge deals.
