<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Oh boy. Lots to dig into here.
1. If Sandin is good, why is he signing for so little with such term? Why not go one or two years?
2. Why is Dallas giving up hakanpaa, and retaining salary for multiple years to get dermott?
3. Don’t know what the heck that arizona thing is.
4. Why is seattle paying for all of Toronto’s trash?
5. We keep hearing about how Campbell should be in the vezina conversation. Why is he signing that?
6. Why is edmonton, or anyone for that matter doing toronto a favor by taking on mrazek?</div></div>
1. It's essentially a bridge deal. He hasn't shown that he is worth above $2M, but you can sign this deal for 2 years if you want.
2. Hakanpaa is does not give much offensively, but he is decent defensively. He is worth just more than a third. Dermott is worth about a third, and he can either be flipped or DAL can see if he is a good fit.
3. Pretty much just assets that could be used at the '22 TDL, nothing special.
4. Ritchie is really the only trash there. Kerfoot is worth more than a second at this point in time, and Holl is probably worth a late 3rd-early 4th. Holl would automatically become a shutdown man for them, he might just need a change of scenery, but he has been noticeably better in 2022.
5. Campbell should not be in the vezina conversation. Markstrom just got 6x6 contract and he is better, yesterday was evident of that. As much as I like him, I think he is overrated and now that he is getting less protection than before, it is showing.
6. Mrazek has been getting calls. And the value for a goalie with term at a somewhat cheap price is through the roof, the only issue with Mrazek is his health. If had not gotten injured at the start of the year, he would be worth a second most likely. Edmonton does not have enough money to sign a guy like Kuemper, Fleury probably doesn't want to sign there, and Edmonton should be willing to give that up for a decent starter.

Sandin is only cheaper by a few hundred grand, and DeAngelo is supposedly a beloved teammate everywhere but in New York.</div></div>
All that I'm saying is that he doesn't fit the Leafs. I know that he is one of the top offensive defensemen, but what the Leafs need is a big shutdown defenseman. If they didn't have Sandin or Rielly locked up, then it would be a completely different story.

Carolina aren/t moving their PPG D man (who would lead Toronto's defenseman in production in far fewer GP) anyway. But he'd instantly be the biggest offensive threat from the blueline Toronto have.</div></div>
Look at Edmonton, they have too much offense in their defense core and they are being screwed over. While he would be a fun player to have, he is not good enough of a fit for the Leafs to get rid of a guy like Sandin. Sandin is younger, hasn't hit his prime yet, cheaper, and has chemistry with the best players on this team. There is no reason to ruin that unless it is for a guy like Chychrun.

DeAngelo is gonna get paid this offseason, probably a contract that Toronto can't afford. We already have elite production out of Rielly, no need for DeAngelo. Sandin is a great PP2 quarterback, and we are getting good production from both Muzzin and Brodie. If the Leafs are going to be getting another defenseman (which they better), It will be a big one that can kill penalties, play physically and move people in front of the net. DeAngelo would be a pest, but he does not fit the bill.

McCann Return
Depends on his contract status. If he is just a UFA at the end of the year, probably around a first. If there is an extension that is $5M+, probably around a first and one or two B/C prospects. If it is a bargain of an extension, don't trade him.

He's away from the limelight in Carolina, covered up by Slavin, Pesce on the blueline, and Aho or Svechnikov in terms of scorers because Carolina do not get long looks from anyone usually. TDA would have been mauled somewhere he can't QB both PP units.</div></div>
While DeAngelo seems enticing, he would be useless on this team because he gives little defensive value, similar to Barrie. They already have Rielly and Sandin, so the offense is already taken care of.

If the Leafs Really Do Go for Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>Quality > quantity
Any Chychrun deal for Toronto starts with Sandin, no questions asked.
It's likely;
Sandin
Robertson
2022 1st round pick
2023 3rd round pick
But when it's all said and done it won't be Toronto getting him. Not for lack of value going to Arizona, but for lack of fit in Toronto. Rielly and Sandin are the long term options at LD in the top 4 for them and neither them or Chychrun play the right side and none are spectacular defensively to be a shutdown pair so one would be under utilized.
Just doesn't make any sense for Toronto to make a deal with Arizona for Chychrun.</div></div>
Yeah I definitely agree. I only made this because of recent reports that Dubas was checking in on him. But even though there are a lot of prospects in this trade, they are all pretty relevant. I thought about adding Knies, but I went with what I thought Dubas would do.

Yeah, but even having McLeod instead of Ryan makes the team worse defensively. If they face a team like Winnipeg, who is decent defensively with the 2nd best goalie in the league, they will struggle again like last year.

Have to imagine now that they got Evander, the Oilers will target a goalie and more defensive help. Maybe moving Koskinen, Barrie, Kassian at TDL? With this team, every game will be 9-8.

But he's an upcoming FA. If we were to also be selling Marner, Muzzin, etc., then I could see it as a possibility, but the Leafs can't afford it as it is. Also, Niemela seems to be the most untouchable prospect in the Leafs' system.

You have a rental, and 2 players who are middle of the lineup at best. The second could hold some value, but they are giving a 3rd along with Chychrun? Way too little. Have to imagine they ask for one of Drysdale, Zegras, or Terry.

While he's had a down year, Larsson is a very underrated defenseman. Plus I'd rather have Larsson for 3 years instead of Holl for 1. At least this way, we have a right-handed shutdown defenseman for the next few years until Niemela is ready.

Really? Niederreiter and Trocheck are both UFAs, and sure Necas is going to step in, but if either Nino or Trocheck walks, you guys would be in need of a top 6 fwd. Kerfoot is very good defensively and very underrated offensively, so he would fit on your team pretty well.

Technically Evander Kane is available for a relatively cheap price, I just wonder what his market would look like. Hopefully Keefe makes Cobra feel like he's getting opportunities and he stays because that 3rd line would be lethal. Even if Robertson is more of a 4th line/13th fwd, Engvall is capable, Mikheyev can play top 6 minutes with Bunting going to the top line. Aston-Reese can hold his own in the bottom 6 and would be a solid option.
However, we just need to guarantee Campbell, Kase, Liljegrin and Sandin stays and we fill the rest of the holes.
