Lundkvist is a very good one. NYR has a problem. They have too many, with Fox, Schneider (Trouba)
But we can each keep our prospects, and let time tell</div></div>
Main issue with this deal is age and need. Lundqvist is already a few years older than Lucius, and while jets do need RD help. They most certainly do not need another small puck moving RHD as they already have that in pionk.

Montreal would be stupid to fall in the trap of absolutely trading for Dubois this year to please the fans. However if a trade can be good for both teams, then let's do it.

Thread:
Wouldnt offer more for Dubois
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KPasty</b></div><div>Then why pay for him at all? Winnipeg is only gonna trade him to MTL if they get exactly what they want (most likely one of Suzuki, Dach, guhle, Barron). He’ll most likely be traded at the deadline this year to a contender who wants to get 2 playoff runs out of him. Winnipeg would get a better return then anyway when teams in the hunt are more desperate, than now when teams are in tough trying to get cap compliant.</div></div>
That's exactly my point. Montreal is not a contender and will not be for at least 2 years. Furthermore, Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle and Barron are untouchables. If a trade has to happen today, I would not overpay. Winnipeg would then be better off trading him at the TDL. If he really wants to play for Montreal, he will become UFA in 2024.

I like that weegar deal a lot. We don’t give up Miller and Florida gets a good young piece to their forward core and don’t risk Weegar walking to FA when they can’t afford him.

Does this get PLD done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>Next summer is not going to be any better since PLD only wants to play for Montreal. In fact I think the longer he waits the less other teams will offer seeing as he won't resign with them. Chevy is not working from a position of strength here and with each passing day\week\month\season his position weakens.</div></div>
Not really. You may want to convince yourself that the offers won't get better, but nothing nothing supports that assumption. If Dubois has a big year and someone sees him as the last piece they need, his price goes up.
Dubois' minimum price at the TDL in 2 years is a 1st and good prospect, so the offer would need to be at least that, plus more for the extra two years.
If the offers are bad, they just keep him and play him. 2 years of PLD and his rental return is better than accepting a poor return.
Chevy is patient and always has done well when he needed to trade a player. I don't see him changing his MO now. He knows he has two years, that's his leverage.

Too many wingers
I agree with KPasty, no way Andrew Copp fetches more than Dubois will. In my opinion it would start with an unprotected 1st and Barron. More to add from there, but I would think that would be the start or no point in moving him. Remember, he has never said Montreal was his preferred destination and even if he did. Doesn't mean the Jets need to trade him there. Jets still control his rights for 2 more years, which is way more valuable than a protected 1st and fringe 2C, more likely a 3C in Dvorak. Dubois is a 1C all day every day, highly doubt any team would want to play him as a winger.

Final Predictions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KPasty</b></div><div>Heinola is an ELC, and Wheeler is much better than Hornqvist and it would only be 950k increase in cap hit by doing so with the $2M retention by swapping those players. Maybe the Jets add a pick if Weegar has an extension in place with Winnipeg. But i really dont think this is that far off. Florida actually gains $2.1M in cap space in this deal.</div></div>
Agree on all points, just think Weegar is good enough to aim to get pure futures for and have the complete cap hit come off.

Dubois rumours
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KPasty</b></div><div>And thats completely fine, but realistically unless Winnipeg gets a deal like that or better they're gonna sign him for 1 year and revisit the conversation next summer and try and sign him long term and if his stance hasn't changed then its the time to trade him. This is really a next year problem unless there's an offer too good to pass up. That's personally how i see the situation unfolding.</div></div>
I agree, that is the most likely scenario for both him and the Jets. I mean it makes sense for the Jets to ask for all that but it just doesn't make sense for the Habs to agree to it right now lol.

Just going to break this down as gently as possible, with zero intention of being rude...
-WIN get one of the best 2nd goalies in the league (He'll be 32 when the season starts, and has been below league average 4 of the past 5 seasons)
-Dvorak to provide them with a 2nd centerman (Do we reallllly think he's still a 2C, or is he just a 3C that can play up a bit *IF* needed?)
-Armia who’s a great leader and provides offense (Citing leadership and offence when a guy just put up 14 pts in 60 games for a team that went from being pretty good to really bad seems weird...)
-Pezzetta who’s a good depth player (Pezzatta is a dime a dozen 13th forward/waiver candidate)
-Brooks to provide depth between AHL and NHL (Brook is a 23 year old who played a total of 19 games this year, including 13 in the ECHL. To say that he's ready to play in the NHL is a bittttt weird)
-and 3 picks, including a first round (Late 1st, late 2nd, late 3rd =Quantity)

WPG takes in couple of contracts that helps Leafs cap wise that they can convert into futures themselves, as well as future assets.</div></div>
Exactly. It's great for Toronto and awful for Winnipeg. So the Jets don't touch it.

Gibson idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KPasty</b></div><div>Not a Edmonton or Anaheim fan, but I don't think Anaheim adds picks to this deal as is. I think Edmonton might have to add Samorukov and then Anaheim would add a 2nd
So I say:
<strong>Edmonton Receives:</strong>
John Gibson
2022 2nd Round Pick (PIT)
<strong>Anaheim Receives:</strong>
Puljujärvi, Jesse [RFA Rights]
Kassian, Zack
Samorukov, Dmitri
2022 1st round pick (EDM)
2022 4th round pick (ANA)</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>As you say, Kassian is a cap dump. So let's assume he has no value (not negative value, just no value). That means this trade is Puljujarvi and this year's first for Gibson, our 2023 second and a fourth. That's a joke. Either your GM think Gibson is worth trading for, or he's not.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Take out Anaheim's second and the retention and replace Samorukov with Broberg and the deal makes sense for the Ducks.</div></div>
I think the trade suggested by KPasty is certainly closer. Maybe switch who's giving the 2nd and 4th Round picks (perhaps Anaheim includes no pick at all . . . ?) Agree with OldNYFan . . . you either want the player or you don't. Retaining with that much term is tough, I will agree. But Anaheim also needs to keep it real . . . If it's a must that they trade Gibson (from the reports of his discontent, etc.), they are doing so at his lowest value and that cap hit and term don't increase his value in the slightest. Plus it dramatically reduces the number of potential suiters the Ducks will find in a trade. Edmonton shouldn't consider for a second trading a package like this with Broberg or Hollloway included . . . or anyone else I'm sure they insist GIbson is worth. JMO
