3th Ovrl pick Cooley
Considering Arizona is very heavily looking at Cooley at 3OA, you will have to try to make a deal with the Devils or with Montreal. I assume it will actually take more than that to even get Arizona to consider giving up their shot at Cooley.

I think the point is there is something there. Would offer a very deep and talented defensive corp for the Canes. We can go back and forth about the details of the deal, but something is there for both sides for sure.

Agree with 555 that I wouldn’t move Morrow for Chych or most other guys. I’d move him for somebody like debrincat tho.

Jarmo puts his foot on the gas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kartana</b></div><div>Appreciate the answer! Good reasoning. I agree that the price is what you said for the pick swap, but every year is different and every team have own charts for respective year. Aaron Portzline had a good article in the Athletic about this a few days ago from Columbus' view. Since there is a clear top 3, I'd argue this year doesn't need an additional pick added. I do also find the appeal with those two picks.
I find it interesting you would give up Cuelemans that easily. Other CBJ fans I've talked to are more hesitant and would rather give up Boqvist. 12th + Cuelemans + is one of, if not the most, preferred deals for Chychrun for me personally. If that last piece is Texier it's a slam dunk for me, but I think Texier holds too much value for that to be fair for Columbus. Perhaps Bean is more fair. The deal could always be balanced with picks. All in all, it's potentially 2 top 4 D in Cuelemans and Korchinski/Mintyukov. It makes a lot of sense for Arizona in my mind.</div></div>
Yeah I am a bit of a Boqvist skeptic myself. A lot of his value is driven by his shooting, which isn't necessarily repeatable at the NHL level for defenseman. He has really good underlying numbers (1.13 WAR, the highest of our defenseman but with 1/2 of the ice time) but I'm not sure he has the athleticism to defend at the top level. That being said both Gavrikov and Werenski are excellent at driving play, and in the zone, so a defenseman who can shoot is a good complement. Our whole D corps was bad at exiting the zone but Boqvist was one of the worst in the NHL which exacerbated his problems in the zone. Despite his flaws he's only 21 and his ceiling is immense. Ceulemans is very exciting because of his physical tools and could be really good but there's a reason he was drafted at 24th and not higher. He may never have the offensive ceiling to be a difference maker but projects to be very solid and well rounded. Our org thinks he looks a lot like a Seth Jones-lite. I can see why fans wouldn't want to give him up considering he is nothing but potential at the moment but I think it's an oversight to value him over Boqvist. Our signing of Blankenburg has a college FA also means we can deal a defense prospect on the right side. If we have Chychrun and Boqvist our O is set from the D corps. Then we have Peeke who is serviceable as a defensive defenseman and we can make it work. We could also even have Jiricek fall at 6 and we'd have Chychrun insurance.
Texier is very hard to give up for this org. They have put a lot of development in with him and he just last year found his identity as a player. He has very cheeky skill previously used for playmaking in the neutral zone that has to be converted to board battles and getting off the wall small area skill but if he puts it together he's an excellent power forward. We don't have any prospects that are as hard to play against as he is. It would be very hard to give him and the 12 up. I don't mind giving Bean up if we're getting Chychrun back. I don't mind giving Texier up if for some reason that helps us pick swap for the 3 either or if it ends in a bidding war. We'd need to target players of his kind in some other trade or through the draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kartana</b></div><div>3 for 6 + 12 is fair (not more), but considering Arizona has 7 picks in the top 45, it most likely isn't something we're doing. The Chychrun trade is really bad for Arizona, both the value and the fit of the assets.
I do believe there is a deal to be done between the two teams. I'd prefer 6th OA for Chychrun, but don't think Columbus does that. A deal around 12th + Cuelemans + roster player is something to discuss, as a base.</div></div>
6+12 is worth more than the 3 alone based on the work done for Average Draft Pick Position GSVA. In terms of that sheet, 6+12 = 3 + 29. I can see Arizona wanting the more premium asset for Cooley, but Gauthier/Savoie/Jiricek + the 12 could help an org still a bit starved for assets. Just as well, the top tier starts to fall off at 12 so you're getting 2 picks within that. AZ having a lot of picks certainly makes the deal harder, but I think there's an angle that still works considering the upgrade.
If you'd like 12 + Ceulemans+ I think that's a deal that CBJ can make very easily. We don't have much as far as roster players for trade. Jenner isn't really tradeable and has an NTC. Nyquist and Voracek could be dealt for sure. Otherwise you're looking at Bean/Peeke or a roster playing prospect like Texier or Bemstrom. If CBJ get Chychrun and get to keep Boqvist I think they'd be happy to part with a further off prospect. Bjorkstrand and Roslovic have just signed deals and likely are too good to also be parting with the 12.

That’s fair. He may be more on the unrealistic since az doesnt want to trade him. I wouldn’t make the trade you listed for him so it’s all good. We could just draft Mcgroarty who I feel will become a similar type player.

I think it's the same type of issue for the leafs. Dubas will have his "keep the first player" and a selection of two players in the 2nd. Chances are Yotes and leafs aren't looking at the same players and woukd value what is left differently.
I also think the Yotes track record in the 2nd round may make them less resistant to moving the picks.

You only need to go on the draft value chart and take emotion/bias out of it to see he's off his rocker</div></div>
Not really how that works. I've written this in a few other threads, but you don't pay for the "1st overall pick"...you pay for the player you would be selecting in that spot. There's a difference. Not all 1st overall picks are equal in value, this subsequently applies to all other picks too. Example: Next years 1st overall (Bedard) will be worth far more than this years. To the point where no matter how many premium assets a teams tries to add to the trade, the team holding the 1st pick will refuse everything.
That's why it really depends on ARI's evaluation of Wright compared to the others.

If MTL wants Cooley
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kartana</b></div><div>I don't see the need for taking Weber's contract. Moving up to select Wright is probably high on their list. Bill Armstrong mentioned Wright by name at the post lottery presser and tanked really hard this season. The price is okay. I'd give the COL 1st. Then again, personally I wouldn't move up at all since the gap between the top 3 forwards aren't that big.</div></div>
Hughes being a big NCAA guy, i think he wants to draft Cooley, but have to pick Wright at 1.
I also think the gap between Cooley and Wright is not that big. Adding 27 and switching 33 for Avs pick would add 2 picks for draft day in MTL.
Even if Cooley is picked 2nd, i would draft Nemec. I think this draft will look like 2017. Best players could be 3-5.
AZ would benefit from Weber's contract because it counts for 7.8M on the cap, helping them reach cap floor, but only cost an average of 1.5M for the next 4 years.

Rumeur JURAJ SLAFKOVSKY First Pick Overall
No sane GM is giving up a 3rd for Weber, he's basically worth a 5th round pick for a team needing the cap hit to reach the cap floor.
Anaheim passes and it's not even close.
Florida can't afford 3 years of Jeff Petry making $6,250,000. Huberdeau needs a new contract next summer.
Jonathan Drouin has negative value, Either retain $2,750,000 or add sweeteners to move him.

Is Arizona really stupid enough to trade for a contract to reach the cap floor when they're like $10M away and still need to fill out the lineup? Sign a guy or two or get some picks/prospects to take some short term cap dumps, trading away a good asset to take on someone else's multi year problem is beyond dumb.

Provorov for Chychrun is interesting but he's owed more in Salary than Chychrun. JVR is owed more than Ladd. So that trade doesn't really make sense for Arizona. I doubt 2 3rds is enough for them to do it, and try moving the money from elsewhere.

Nylander and Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kartana</b></div><div>It's been laid out pretty clearly what Arizona wants in a Chychrun deal from various sources. This is not it. Neither the pieces or the value.
Also, no reason for Arizona to acquire a player that is hurt as much as Turcotte and a player that hasn't played for almost the whole season (Walker). Injury history applies to Chychrun as well, but he has shown to come back fine from it. Until Walker has played it's not smart for Arizona to consider acquiring him.
I understand Clarke is off the table. Faber seems to be as well, but you can't get quality without giving up something of value in return. I'd consider a combination of Faber, Vilardi and your next two 1sts. Otherwise, there are plenty of suitors that I appreciate more. For example, any of Columbus' 1sts or Ottawa 1st.
Anyways, I always like your AGMs. They are well thought out and presented in a good way.</div></div>
Thank you for the kind words.
I think that Arizona is a little more likely to take actual skaters who will play next season rather than futures because they have so few NHL-qualified guys on the roster for 2022-2023 right now. For that reason, I'm pretty sure that neither Turcotte nor Walker is what they're looking for, as you say, but Vilardi and Spence might be sufficient (along with Iafallo). But my real belief is that the Coyotes shouldn't trade Chychrun at all because then they'll be lucky to win 20 games next year without him.
I should have paid a little more attention to the Arizona deal but I was pre-occupied with the Nylander-Petersen idea which, as you can see, wasn't well received by the Maple Leafs folks.
