My Dream Deadline
I'm a pens fan. We need to make some changes to the team. But brock is barely a better answer for us than kapanen was. He hasn't had over 25 goals in a season since 2019. He hasn't been remotely close to a ppg since 2021 and even then it was like a .8. He has not played 1 single season without missing games. If we can get him at half price I would be happy but not if it costs more than a 1st rd pick and a cap release like dumo

(CHI/ARI/NYR) - Kane, Zech for 5th for Welinski, 2nd, 4th
Fan - This royally pisses me off. That's next to nothing!
Same Fan - Kane retired a Hawk. He walked away, we got nothing for him and he's a selfish jerk for not waiving his NMC so we could at least get SOMETHING for our rebuild
:D
Luckily most GMs make the best moves they can for the team. Not to appease the internet. Good job by them realizing that it was this or literally NOTHING.

I'm a pens fan since I was a kid, so I agree there, but just giving a bit of credit where it's due. These guys are playing some pretty impressive hockey

Speed and Skill
As a pens fan, I don't see Gudbranson as a realistic dump at this point. Look at how Schultz was written off until he played a season or 2 with the Pens. Hold on to Gudbranson for now and see if he can play this year the way he finished last year after the trade. Next thing you know, he's worth quite a lot more and Rutherford looks like a genius...... or not :D

We basically traded Tavares and 4 first round picks for Matt Martin, Leo Komarov and Mitch Marner. I'm sure they'd really consider that screwing toronto over :/

Trades Thoughts

Agreed. I would say if you want to Get rid of Maatta to free up space and package him with Simon, that's fine. Take picks though instead. Couple mid rounders maybe or a 3rd and a 5th spread across this year and next if need be. That frees up the 2.9 you would be spending on Tierney to spend on Hagelin if you want him. Or something like that

Kessel and Zaitsev
Still don't get the point of a lot of these Kessel trades. You're trading someone averaging over a ppg the last two seasons for someone who got 41 points last year and has never been close to Kessel's numbers, then turning around and signing him for more money than you were responsible for with Kessel. Kessel could drop off 20% a year and still be above or at galchenyuk's usual production by the end of this contract.

The first time I saw them play, Matthews got his 4 goals, but Marner worked his ass off. Told all the old Toronto fans who were there cheering for Matthews that Marner was going to be the better of the two. Still hold to that today. Kid is an amazing talent.

No issues at all with Gudbranson's play so far. Guy has been holding his own and then some. I don't dislike Hornqvist or DeSmith, and I see the still present potential in Maatta. It's all about giving a big of breathing room. I do like the Idea of moving Petterson up and having Gudbranson stay. Maybe put Rikola with him (I like Rikola's game). The Myers signing was just a personal want on my behalf since I like his game.

again, the trade is a placeholder for the type of player we could get back in that move. It doesn't have to be LA specifically. And these moves free up more cap space if Myers wants north of 5, which I agree, he probably will

So true. I'm a pens fan and a Malkin fan. Some nights though, take a shot every time Malkin tries a drop pass that ends up a turnover. It can turn ugly quick lol

Should i switch my fav team
If you switch teams based on who is winning at a certain point, then bandwagoner you are. If you are just becoming disinterested in your team and are have gained interest in another team, then do what you wanna do, and don't worry about anyone hating on it. Would you rather a bunch of random people are happy about you being a "fan" of one team even if you're not anymore, or would you rather be happy and able to thoroughly enjoy your fan experience? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Hopeful
While I can see the problems with the Anaheim deal specifically, these are more just a framework of the types of deals that the Pens need to make happen to free up cap room. I'm ok with the Pens getting "less than value" as it is a means to an end to get out of big trouble before big trouble comes along. (And as long as "less than value" isn't a fleecing)

How so? Crosby isn't going anywhere. Everyone knows that, and realistically, why would the Pens want to move him out? Malkin has shown that when he is the headliner for a team, he puts up the numbers. He has played exceptionally when Crosby has been out, but if you're picking between Crosby and Malkin, you're picking Crosby. The Pens, having both players, are at liberty to make that distinction in this case. In the end, we move out 7 pieces and some picks for 4 pieces that will cost us less than the sum of the 7 and help spread out our scoring, and shoring up the D a bit never hurts either.
