Deadline
If you are St. Louis do you make this trade? Do you really see Max as the guy that is going to bring you to the promise land. Not much of a track record.
And even if you are going to take a shot do you really want to give up a 1st and a legit C prospect for 2 years of Max when you might not be able to resign Paul Statsny.
I think Max would be a better fit in Edmonton or L.A.

Nelson I think at best is a useful #2c.
I don't think the Islanders can give up a First for Pacman now they are out of a playoff spot, unless they go to J.T. and say if we make this trade will you promise to sign for 12M or whatever.
Having said that feels like a trade both teams should not make but will! :)

#1 centre and 1st pick trade with Wild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wabit</b></div><div>Wild say no.
Granny for Patches might be even.
-I wouldn't do it 1-for-1 from Minny PoV. Granny is one of their top-2 FWDs on the ice every night (along with Staal), has an extra year on his contract, and is comeing into his own.
Dumba for Chucky+Plekanec+Benn- easy pass
-Benn adds nothing as a LD, Wild are stacked there.
-Chucky is an odd fit in MN, overpayed 3C or a middle-6 LW (Wild need RWs and have too many LWs). I like Chucky, he's just hard to fit in the Wild's lineup.
-Plekanec would be a nice 3C rental, but he's expensive even at half retained.
1st (~18oa) for 2 2nds (both around 40 oa)- easy pass
Not to mention that it's $8.2m in cap the Wild are taking on (they have like $1.5m in TDL cap space), and 2 extra contracts (they are at 50 already).
This really isn't the year for Minny to be buyers with their 1st on the table, they are on the fringe of the Playoffs.</div></div>
Okay i agree including Dumba was a stretch. I was trying to think like M.B.
Benn obviously just a throw in to fill a roster spot.
Montreal can take a lot of Salary back.
Min G.M. is kind of known for making big moves, Min in a playoff spot, you never know.
I didn't know Minn took a long look a galchuck, I guess because of that it won't happen.
I do think Granlund would be a way better centre then Drouin but maybe that is just me.
Min low 1st pick for 2 of Montreal picks aint unthinkable.
Back to drawing board!

There might have to be some throw ins to make this trade but I like the thinking. M.B. thinks he can get a 1st, elite prospect & more (high-end roster player) for a one dimensional goal scorer who has shown nothing in the play-offs really is beyond me.

Though P. would look painfully slow trying to keep up with the rush of Connor McDavid and the gang, though D-wise he can't be much worse then what the have.

If Price really wanted to Play for a Winner he wouldn't have re-signed with Montreal. He is never waving his no trade clause even if I wish he would.
Money wise he is set for life. He has a gold medal. Life could be worse. Can you imagine telling your wife you waived your no trade clause to move to St. Louis.

Ya Arizona is never making that deal.
But you can trade Pacoretty for a 1st.
And probably Galchuck for a 1st.
If Toronto took Petry for a 1st I would get down on my knees for someone that is how unbelievable I think it is.
I like Granlund, M too but I don't think they trade him until the summer and Pacman has the most value now.
Feels like Alzner is destined to go back to Washington and Montreal eats a million a year.
I think you could get a 1st from Buffalo or NY ISlanders but not sure what they want in return.
And Edmonton if you will eat Milac Lucic contract.

LA Trade?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>In what world does Mete get you Trouba though? Plus Trouba is somewhat picky on where he'll sign his UFA contract in. Seems he wants to play in the States. So I don' think that's happenning. Plus now we're short a LHD puck moving dman for the future in Mete.
Then you want to go all in on OEL? With what exactly? The things we have that Arizona would want would only cause another hole to fix afterwards. Plus you got to trade Petry first. He has a M-NTC so its not like we can just trade him to who ever.
Plus plus plus, whomever is interested in Petry would also be interested in Trouba or OEL if they were available so they'd probably wnat to see if they could land one of them first before going to option #2 in Petry.
Hey who am i to day otherwise....all I can say is you'd have to be a really "Lucky-Duck" for this to work as planned. :laugh</div></div>
It might take Mete and a 2nd and another players but I think you can get Trouba. Maybe send Petry the other way and eat some of his money. The jets want a LD for Trouba and Mette fits the bill (maybe he is not a true #1 LD prospect but he is at as good as they are going to get) For the record Trouba is an RFA. I don't know details of Petry no movement clause but even if we have to keep him I can live that.
And Montreal can get OEL for 2 players and a 1st Round pick. It is doable. Gallagher and Gulchuck probably, though I would rather give up Shaw or Byron.
They can also swap Pacman for a 1st and a prospect. Montreal will at least have one 1st rd.
Obviously you will need to open the bank for a URFA centre in the summer....

LA Trade?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Yeah I get what you mean but there really isn't any basis for it nor any realistic solution for it either.....
Yes Petry is overpaid. I know it. He knows it. Habs know it. No one is fooling anyone. The problem herein lies with the fact that even if he is overpaid, we can't do better anyway. You want to pay 3M for a RHD that plays on average 22 Mins a night since arriving in MTL?? Good luck with that...... you can't look at OEL making 5.5M and then look at Petry making the same thing and say " Pfffff Petry is a 3M dman compared to OEL". You know who you should be comparing Petry to? Sekera, Marc Staal, Alex Goligoski........Is Petry not earning his wage compared to those guys with the exception of maybe Goligoski who is having a decent year also?
As for Petry's cap hit, go here and see what the difference in tax means for Petry or anyone we'd want to add to the Habs:
<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/post_tax_calculator">https://www.capfriendly.com/post_tax_calculator</a>
Overpaying Petry wasn't because he is the best thing since swiss cheese..........its because it is the only way we could sign him. Just like it will be for any other big name free agent. WE don't have a choice. WE have to overpay anyone that comes here.
You know what I want? Connor McDavid, Zack Werenski and Patrick Laine. But we all know that isn't going to happen. Its nice to dream about better options but when a player isn't really that bad and is doing a decent job like Petry is, we can't be too choosey.
With Weber hurt, Petry is our best dman and you want to get rid of him? Ok and replace him with what? Trouba? OEL? Ok, good luck with that...... when those options ultimately fail, be happy you still have Petry to rely on night in and night out because if you think Petry is bad, wait till you see Schlemko and Jerebek playing 23 mins a night on a regular basis........</div></div>
I think you can get Trouba for Mette and then go all in on OEL, or another star defensemen. Trouba makes Petry not needed....

I think Petry is a solid #3 or serviceable but not great #2 on a cup team.
But with Weber and Price contracts 5.5 million for 4 more years is a pretty gross contract. 2.5 Million a year too much imo.
I don't hate the player, I hate the contract moving forward on a team with Weber/Price.
I think it makes sense to trade him now before the Contract really starts to hurt.
I would make a trade for Trouba, I am willing to give up Mete if we get OEL, or another prospect in this years draft.

I am not a hater of Petry but his contract is looking more and more like a disaster.
Edmonton might take a flyer on Petry if you take back Lucic in a multi-player deal.
NY islanders might take Petry along with pacman but not sure who we want in return that has a similar cap hit (other then Tavares) . I guess we could eat 1/2 of petry contract for a couple years to try and get one of their 1st picks.

Agree but Arizona wants a 1st round pick and 2 Top 6 ready to play players just for OEL, they will probably ask for a prospect to from Montreal.
I snap make this trade unless I can get a bottom 5 team 1st round pick for Max and someone else....go all in on trying to get the 1st pick overall.
I think you could wrestle away a #1 pick from Edmonton or maybe Ottawa if you are willing to take Dion Phaneuf or Lucic back in the trade...something like Pacman & Shaw & 2nd & plekanic for Lucic & 1st.

I think Pacioretty, Max is at least a short term fit for L.A. but he is getting traded 1st and probably re-signed by that team.
Question is if L.A. is willing to give up their 1st round pick or maybe a different piece and G. Valardi.
M.B. is not trading Max if he doesn't get a 1st round pick or a at least a potential #1 center (or I guess #1 D that L.A. doesn't really have other then Doughty the best)

You listed what M.B. wants and now we know why no one has made the trade.
I think Pacman is going to either L.A. or Philly (Philly has 2 1st round picks)...probably happen on deadline day if Philly is still in playoff race.
It would sick if Pittsburg got Pacman, 4 elite scoring threats.
Islanders have 2 first round picks but need defense and a goalie.
Maybe Edmonton makes sense.

They don't want Pacman...too old.
I think you can flip Pacman for a 1st to another team or a TOP 6 guy and like a 2nd so threeway deal sure.
1. Pacioretty, M.
2. Lehkonen, A.
3. Lindgren, C.
Arizona wants proven top 6 guys in a trade 2 & 3.....don't count....so the question is who else (top 6 guys) are you willing to include in the trade . I am trading anyone but Drouin...

I am a Fan of Mete but he is not ready and won't be next year to be a True #1 D.... No true #1 centre is going to sign in Montreal without an answer to who is going to play LD with Weber. Tavares is only leaving NY Islanders for a team that he believes can win now. I think OEL is the answer but there might be someone else out there that I am forgetting...
And I actually think sign and trading danault makes a lot of sense....you can get a serious discount on Plekanic who wants to stay in Montreal. Clearly only trading Danault for a more offensive center 1 or 2.

I don't think you can trade Price without trading Weber and you can't be sure to be able either so can't really trade one.
OEL i a throwing anything and the kitchen sink for this guy.
Draisaitl (If they will take shaw or Ulzner, I will take back Lucic) Not that I like Lucic but I would pay his price to get Draisaitl.
Gabriel Valardi (I think you can get him from kings for something reasonable, L.A. has a couple other great centers)
I am trading Trouba for Mete if I go all in on OEL. He is a longterm replacement for Weber is a little under rated now because he is hidden on the depth chart.
He doesn't get talked a lot about in trades but I bet Edmonton would take Petry.
L.A. might take Plekanic (and 2nd pick) or Galchuck for their top pick or Valardi.
The only thing I think know for sure is you need to trade for a #1 or at least a super solid #2 centre or #1 D to play with Weber before the deadline (A top 5 pick would do to). Because if you don't have either a Top D or Top centre in place you won't be able to get the other piece as an URFA because they won't want to play on a flawed team.
