Nylander trade
Just not interested. Don't see DeAngelo as a perfect fit and am of the belief Nylander is not getting dealt. Would much rather keep him.

Very fair point. I just personally have yet to see a proposed trade that makes sense to MARLEAU and he's the guy that matters. But yes, people can do as they please, I just don't see it as realistic until I'm given reason to :)

This is the truth as well. I don't see them moving his deal and most fans are best off making their teams assuming the same.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nchest</b></div><div>Can't see him being traded either, at least this year. He is given an opportunity to come back for a full year and likely play with Matthews.
Zaitsev trade is how I have said they will get rid of him. Not sure of the team, but someone would do that trade. I like Brown, but he goes for cap reasons. They have lots of young players making under $1m that can play on the 3rd or 4th line.
I like the Spurgeon trade especially if he re-signs first. It would be nice if the Wild would retain some salary so the Leafs can add a roster player or two, even if the Leafs have to add a small piece</div></div>
Agree with all of this. The team Zaitsev goes to I really don't care. Chose Vancouver for the sake of the exercise. Brown is good as gone, we just have cheaper replacements. And yeah, in an ideal world Spurgeon comes with a fresh new deal then we don't have to worry about the condition on the pick. If they retained a little on his deal this year I would add an extra sweetener but didn't do that here just to keep it simple.

Perfect. Sounds like a win-win then :)

And Nylander is one of most overvalued player in the league... one side offense player, 7M, 0.5M and -4 last year... on a winning team!!!!</div></div>
I think he's become quite underrated honestly. Anyone who watched him realistically knows that the points he got didn't totally reflect his play. He had some great stretches during the year where he dominated possession. He DOES have a defensive side too, and that is his takeaway/backcheck ability. Admittedly he doesn't always use that skill though. Would like to see a higher compete level at times from him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kakko_to_New_York</b></div><div>Pionk for 2 years around $1-2M.</div></div>
I'd have zero issue signing him to a longer term 4/5 year deal around 3-3.5? I think although with question marks defensively, he could really flourish alongside a guy like Muzzin. Maybe a 1/2 year bridge to get past the Marleau deal makes more sense though. Am I off base at all?

What kind of raise is Pionk looking at? I'm definitely intrigued (although Horton isn't an issue, and we don't gain anything by dealing him)

Applying Suggestions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>It won't be much of a cap relief with LTIR though, and once they're back they need to be able to take on the full cap hit. Likely have to clear more cap room</div></div>
It won't be much, correct, but it will be enough to deal with injury replacements over the course of the year. Which is all that matters. And my team has them taking on both of the Hyman/Dermott contracts. The only room they'll need (with my above construction) is for game day injury replacement players. In which like they did with Trevor Moore this year, they will call up just before game day, then send down after. Meaning he'll only have his NHL salary on the cap for game days, and not for off days. So they just need enough cap for injury replacements on game days. And I think they would build enough up for that.

Applying Suggestions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>For the big trade with Minnesota, I'd make the pick a conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st if the Leafs win the cup or Spurgeon signs an extension. A young, good roster player plus a guaranteed 1st seems like a very high price for a 1 year rental. Spurgeon is good, but he's not on an elite level.</div></div>
Sure, if that is what the deal ends up as I'm obviously not going to argue. Push comes to shove I'll deal the pick if that's what it takes though. Realistically a condition on an extension does make sense.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>The main issue here (which a lot of posts on here seem to have) is that no one seems to get that no team in the league is going to go into a season with such little cap space. Especially with no healthy scratches in case of injury. I'd say the minimum any team goes into the season with is $1M in cap space, but that's with a 23 man roster. Anything less and they won't sustain a competitive team over the full season</div></div>
Makes sense. With Hyman/Dermott most likely on LTIR to start the season, they will gain a little bit of space over the year to use for call ups. And luckily with the Marlies a taxi away they can keep everyone down there and just emergency recall someone if needed. That was my thought process anyway.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDSUFRATMAN</b></div><div>The only way I do the Spurgeon trade is if he comes with an extension. But im not totally apposed to wait for liljigren and Sandin to be in our top four and sign like chairot over the offseason.</div></div>
Fair enough take. Not having a 1st in consecutive years would suck. For me, I just think I'd rather deal the pick than one of Liljegren/Sandin. And I want to get that top pairing defenseman. I'd make the deal extension or not, then if not definitely try to get one done. Our window is wide open now, and I don't want to wait for our D prospects to develop (on average defensemen take a while to develop. Look at Rielly.) I think our prospect cupboard is full enough to do it. Barely, but full enough.

If there was an uninsured deal out there that would be an ideal trade target for Zaitsev. Not sure it exists though.

Alright. Pay a premium to get 50% retention on Gudas for the year. That plus 550k cap space would allow 3 players on the roster near league min. So sign a couple before the year/using ones we may already have would get us there.

Sure, but you could say the same for every prospect that is in junior, the AHL, Europe, etc. The AHL is what we have to work with for Bracco and he's performing exceptionally well compared to his peers. He's only 21. Shaping up as one of the better prospects in the Leafs system right now.

Why do people think Justin Holl has any trade value? He turns 27 next week and has played 4 career NHL games.</div></div>
I would probably pay more for Muzzin if push came to shove, but Bracco has been spectacular with the Marlies this year and is really looking like he'll be a player.
As for Holl I don't think he has trade value. Purely is in the deal for roster reasons and that he could step in at RD3 if Philly needs him to (if Myers isn't ready). Was pretty much a throw in.

Interesting Piet Proposal
This is a lot of good conversation here.
I think it really just comes down to differing opinions on if Pietrangelo would be the final piece of the puzzle. Me, I think he would be. Others, may disagree. Which is totally fine.
Hopefully Dubas and Armstrong are smarter than all of us and find something everyone is happy with, but I think there is a move between these two clubs somewhere :)

I'd trust Dubas on that exchange if it was available. Maroon is just that bit of sandpaper that everyone screams the Leafs need, so I think he'd bring some value on the 4th line.
And the price is probably a little high, but it's of my opinion Pietrangelo puts this team over the top. And a cup is worth it to me.

8-10 goals? ✅
Every line contributing? ✅
Not sure what more you can ask for. The answer is YES a Sharks/Leafs SCF would be amazing. So many storylines, and something that is rare in the SCF because the teams don't play each other enough, bad blood. There is a bit of a rivalry here which always makes for great hockey. Would be a final for the ages.
