Part 1 Mediocrity Continues until March
The Canucks have already stated that they don't plan on moving their 1st rounder, which means I doubt they would move it just to offload a player on an expiring contract who is playing ~18-20 minutes per night for them and is quite useful when put in the right situations. Is he overpaid? Yeah. Is he worth trading a high pick to dump cap at this point, not unless the return coming back tangibly upgrades the team.

shocking to no one, jeff carter declines. (plus no one wants him even at 50%)
Kings would need to move cap somehow, whether that's a player to the penguins, or a 3rd team they have basically no cap space. Even then they'd probably need a 3rd team to retain 1.5M on Jake.
The penguins are going to possibly be in a huge bind IF they become sellers this season.
Only 5 teams have $3M+ in cap space at the moment (CBJ, NSH, BUF, ANA, CHI) and I can't see any of them being buyers at the deadline on rentals.
If the pens sell they're going to need buyers in a playoff hunt to have significant cap on LTIR.
Jake, Pettersson and Ned will be your big three, any depth guy on final year as mentioned.
It's almost impossible to speculate on anything at this point with how tight most the divisions are and with how little cap space teams have.

I like the first one and meh on the 2nd one but the 3rd one absolutely not. I know you're not a pens fan so I'm not gonna give you crap for it but just though you should know MP28 has probably been the best defensive defenseman on the left side this year

Both teams decline pretty easily. Not nearly enough value for the pieces you're trying to acquire.
A suggestion for pit that doesn't include the highly unlikely Carter nmc waive, Taylor Raddysh. He can play up and down the lineup and has a crazy cheap contract. All it'd cost is a first round pick.

Adjustments
The personnel on the PP is definitely not the problem, it’s the antiquated scheme that Reirden runs. I’ve never really been a fan of him as a coach. Karlsson should almost always be up top QBing and distributing, he’s amongst the best in the league at it. Yet Reirden has him in the Ovi spot for half the PP. It makes no sense. More importantly, there needs to be far more movement from the forwards in the zone. Stationary players taking slap shots is far too easy to defend. This isn’t the 1990’s, Todd. As for your Eller suggestion, I wouldn’t overwork him. Just keep him in his current role that he’s overachieving in.
As for Rakell, he’ll get it going offensively. Lest we forget that he had 60 points last year. His first few games were tough, but he’s been giving it his all since. Even when he’s not putting up the numbers, he’s smart and confident carrying the puck. He’s great for puck possession, which is so valuable on Geno’s wing. Moving him would be a mistake.
With Ned and Ludvig coming back, I suspect Hinostroza will be sent down. It sucks. I’d love for him to stay at the 4th line RW because Carter tends to destroy all speed and momentum that the line manages to bring. That’s the role they need to play, speed and disruptive forechecking. Carter goes in and all of that goes out the door. Carter won’t waive his NTC, but he should be the 13th forward. If you ask me, now is the time to move POJ. With him out and a pick in Ned and Ludvig can come back.

Oh ok. Gotcha, that's fair. I usually just don't hit publish when I do that because I don't want to deal with getting ripped apart. haha. People on here have a hard time separating concept and execution, even if you explain it in the description. It can be maddening.

The same can be said for Sportsnet.
I mean, I understand they're Canadian based companies. But it's absolutely mind-numbing how they always seem to forget that there's hockey south of the Canadian border. Even ESPN manages to provide more hockey based coverage for the rest of the 25 teams in the league then they manage to do so.

Daily Faceoff is fine when Seravalli is covering teams he is connected with. He has almost zero connections with San Jose or Pittsburgh so pointing a finger at the Karlsson trade specifically is not really a compelling argument.
Also the Athletic is fine, your dislike for a subscription does not take away from their inside knowledge on teams. Their subscription service means there are zero ads on the site, really not that different from listening to like 32 thoughts on Spotify premium</div></div>
Athletic subscribers have to deal with ads now. The running of that site has turned into a **** show since it was sold.

The only respectable writer on the Athletic is LeBrun. Outside of him, it's a bunch of calculators that have never put on a pair of skates before and think you can win a cup on an excel spreadsheet
I think it was either Mirtle or Seigel that said that the Leafs got worse because the team shifted away from Dubas and his analytics into a team that uses the eye test

I'd hope poulin or puusty have a very good camp and can pass Nylander for that top 6 spot.
I'd also think you would need chad to play to get him on the pk... not sure EK is a good penalty killer
very curious to see if sully goes with 2d on pp1 it could be a good idea considering the huge amount of chances against we give up.

STILL TOO EARLY NHL STANDINGS PREDICTIONS V2
Boy I see all of these and I think everyone's a little too high on my Avs. We are likely going to be rolling out some very green players on 3 line RW and 4th line C and RW. There's a good chance our 3rd D pairing involves Jack Johnson/Brad Hunt/Sam Malinski rotating through. We're also hoping that Drouin magically turns his issues around purely because of Nathan MacKinnon. All of these things could work out and if they do we've got the talent to roll in the Central, but I think Dallas is going to have a much easier ride to the top than we will. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we finish lower than 3rd in our division, but top spot is nowhere close to a guarantee.
