But will they be ready top play top 4 ? Would you do Chabot-JBD Sanderson-Zub ? I dont like JBD playing against top lines and Sanderson-JBD is a too young pairing IMO</div></div>
Next year should be fine to put JBD with Chabot. I think he’s shown he’s an nhl player so far in preseason and last year, just needs to be given the opportunity. He’s a steady defensive Dman, who can make a good first pass, can block shots and read plays well. Not overly physical or will ever produce much offence tho . Like a steady partner for a guy like Chabot

Yes his athleticism is off the charts and he makes acrobatic saves and has great reflexes . Plus he had .917 save percentage last year

Opinion on the camp so far
IMHO, Xhekaj could make the team. He's playing better than Barron RN (so is Harris). Ghule has also looked good on D.
Slafkovsky should start in the AHL (or play a few games with the big club and then get sent down), as he does need more time to adjust to the NA ice.
Emil Heineman has looked good as well. I thought he had a great game yesterday with a few great chances. He seemed to be around the puck most shifts.

Not having a 23' first round pick means Florida is out of the Kane sweepstakes before it even begins.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>I mean, you’re insulting him for presuming Monahan won’t have a good season. You’re doing the same thing by giving him a higher AAV, assuming his play will be better. In other words, you’re doing the same presuming.
tommybarzy is making the more reasoned assumption that Monaghan’s play won’t get back to the level it was several years ago based on his recent play. So yeah, this isn’t a good contract.
Or, whatever, he’s too woke or something.</div></div>
:tearsofjoy
I get it, Monahan isn't getting 7M AAV.
I reacted like that becauses people usually don't just disagree, they tend to overreact when someone tries something to spark debate.
Everyone -- including myself lol - have calmed down about it.

Signing Monahan short term - 2023 season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Poehling</b></div><div>If Monahan bounce back, he isn’t getting anything above 5M
And MTL are already set in the middle with Suzuki Dach Dvorak & Evans. MTL probably end up with a top 6-7 pick, which means they probably draft the best player available, Bedard C Fantilli C Michkov W Dvorsky C Carlsson C Yager C Benson W Ritchie C. Lots of center. MTL have already too many wingers, I just can’t see Dadonov Monahan Drouin Byron coming back next year</div></div>
I wonder if Dvorak/Dach are actually set in stone in MTL for the future. Evans has a ridiculously team-freindly contract and Suzuki, well, captain.
I agree with you on the next draft center class. Monahan probably isn't coming back.
Note: sorry for my bad temper the other day.

Other teams should pay attention
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I am not unaware sir. It's just... It's not like the Habs need 14 new forwards. They have quite a few on the way that are 2 and 3 years away. These guys who have been slogging it out for a few years in the minors and Europe ... They should get their shot this year and next, but because of this logjam of bad contracts... These guys will maybe get one year before guys like Mesar, Beck, Mysak, Kidney, Roy will come up and take their spots. It's nice to have internal competition, but at one point it's a bit much.
With those picks if we could get them we could pick some college players and reset the development pipeline for a few years</div></div>
I'm sad to anounce to you that Mesar, Beck, Mysak, Kidney and Roy wont make the big team next year. And maybe never.
I understand the hype, but statisticaly most won't make it. That's why teams hold on as much as they can to their assets, hoping a couple of them develop right. The truth is that nobody know which ones it's gonna be.

Yeah it doesn't work like that in the NHL. If we take 4 established NHL forwards like Hoffman, Monahan, Gallagher on waivers no.player would ever consider signing in MTL for the next 5 years.
I get it... You're a troll. Good for you. Time to move on now.

Need opinions
Personally for the lines I'd go...
Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
Heinen - Malkin - Rust
Zucker - Carter - Kapanen
Puustinen - Blueger - McGinn
Dumoulin - Letang
Pettersson - Petry
Smith - Rutta
Jarry
Desmith
For trades I would like to see McGinn get moved. Hes been great here but hes signed for too long imo and we need to start getting our younger guys in the lineup. POJ could also be moved to make room for Smith who imo should be playing over POJ. Now here are the lines that I think Sully is gonna go with for the opening game...
Guentzel - Crosby - Rust
Rakell - Malkin - Kapanen
Heinen - Carter - Zucker
Poehling - Blueger - McGinn
Dumoulin - Letang
Pettersson - Petry
POJ - Rutta
Jarry
Desmith
I really do like this team. It is kinda old but that's another reason why we should be moving out McGinn to bring in the youngsters. If Petry can play luke he did under Marty St. Louis then that would be a huge addition. If Smith can be dominant in the AHL (I believe that's where he will start) and get called up then him and Pickering are out future top 4 LHD. If Zucker can bounce back it would be huge. It's a lot of it's but I'm confident in Sid, Malkin, and Letang to get the job done.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MeetYourMakar</b></div><div>How did you learn what the salary cap will be in 2 years before everyone else? Damn you're good.</div></div>
Idk about in 2 years, but next year the cap will probably go up 1/2 mill and they have to make a decision to keep Toews Girard and Byram, and go cheap on the forwards, or sell one of their d man and get a decent bottom 6. I figure they probably get some cheap forwards and keep toews til his deal is up and either lose him for nothing or hope the cap goes up significantly. There will be decent guys for bottom 6 who are cheap, but it won't be amazing, it will be a leafs type situation with the bottom 6 probably.

if they keep him, every UFA they sign next year will have to be making less than 1 mill and they will have a really bad bottom 6. If Byram steps up this year they are much better off selling Toews next summer and picking up some decent bottom 6 players.

Take Durzi instead of Spence and Kupari instead of Turcotte and I'd do it, assuming the Toews extension is reasonable.
The trade needs to happen immediately for it to be worth it for LA.
