Just throwing it out there
A top-20 defenseman for 2 playoff runs and an entire season for 2.5 million? Yea I would expect this return.

That's for 2 years per arbitration rules. A 5-6 years would be more expensive considering the Rangers would be buying up UFA years.

Sorry to rain on your parade but I'm pretty sure every Canadian team is on Rick Nash's no trade.

Devils bring the heat
There's no way the top Defensive UFA (who is 28) this summer signs for less than 5 years.

Different Duchene Options! ...
EDM: No way, last thing they need is another forward, especially if it comes at the price of a good Dman
VAN: I'd say they'd be dumb enough to do it trying to claw their way to the playoffs, but Juolevi may just be a bridge too far.
CAR: Depends on the internal cap situation.
PHI: Could definitely see a Philadelphia for Duchene trade. Have a ton of valuable defense prospects, and he rise of Provorov has made some of them expendable. A scoring forward with some PK skill would push them into competitive cup territory. Would need salary going the other way though. Philly is close to the cap.

Off-season
The Palat trade is really intriguing but I'm wondering if Vanek doesn't stay in Detroit, the relationship there seems pretty mutually beneficial.
I'd also be wary of the Fleury trade. He hasn't had the greatest year but hey, if it means you get him cheap it's still a definite upgrade over the current tandem Carolina has.

Summer '17
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canadian_Rednek</b></div><div><i>I don't see Vegas taking Grabner. Yes he's having a good year on a great team, however, Vegas is not going to be a great team they are going to struggle offensively and Grabner is not going to get protected minutes like he is now. And being a Leafs fan I can confirm he's struggles when he's being relied upon to do some heavy lifting in the offence. He's also old and on the decline. Because of this I see Vegas taking either Puempel or Rannta.</i></div></div>
So I kind of agree. I got the picks down to 1 of Grabner/Fast/Puempel/Lindberg/Clendening. Raanta wasn't as much a possibility because of my explanation below. I think I failed to be impartial a little bit because I think losing Fast would seriously hurt the Rangers, but I do think Grabner's PK ability, and his ability to have exciting breakaways every game kind of mesh with Vegas' goal of being exciting and competitive from day 1. The other picks (especially Puempel) I think are more of a building block pick, which Bill Foley already said wasn't the goal. They want to push for the playoffs from the beginning and I think of those potential picks Grabner is the best fit for that.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div><i>I see Raanta going to Vegas.</i></div></div>
The only reason I don't think they take Raanta is because there are so many solid goalies available. One of Bishop/Fleury/Reimer/Luongo/Halak/Neuvirth etc will be possibilities, and while I think Raanta is the clear pick in a vacuum, the availability of some other names will make a Grabner or Fast more likely.

Minnesota wants a Center, and Marc Staal + 3rd wont cut it for the massive contract theyre taking on. Especially for someone like Dumba.

Fowler Trade After Ducks scouting
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>If the Ducks think Lindberg can be an NHLer, and maybe the Ducks have the choice of either Skjei or Mcllrath, then I think the trade is fair. From a Ranger view if they protect three Dman in the expansion draft, is Fowler even on that list?</i></div></div>
I'm biased but Lindberg was a really solid player last year (13G/15A in 69GP) and got kind of caught up in the "AV hates rookies" trope , so I think he's ready to improve on those stats. If we got Fowler, we would probably buy out Girardi at the end of this season in order to not have to protect him.

Suggested by a Caps Fan
I like this as a Rangers fan and that means it probably never happens. I doubt the Caps want to lose an asset to a divisional rival.

I don't think more defense is the solution. Nashville seriously needs more scoring depth.
