If I was a Sabres fan, absolutely that is what I would want...but I still think the trade goes through without an extension in place. Ristolainen and his -41 need a fresh start and Trouba is the better overall defenseman. Winnipeg gets cost control while Buffalo gets an upgrade. They have the cap space to make a very competitive offer to Trouba when the time comes as well.

I guess I should've specified starting a franchise with. Notice how all these guys are still pretty young. If I'm starting a franchise tomorrow, I'd pick Matthews over Bergeron, Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares

That is a lot of cap to take back. I would want to move back some salary. Probably Perreault. add a 3rd coming back to the jets though
Trouba will also probably command over 7 million

Pettiness at its finest
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheCelt</b></div><div>I think anytime you go from being a top 10 goalie in per game stats for the majority of the season straight out of the blue, you should expect regression. That's not a knock on Brossoit, that's just the trend that most goalies that aren't franchise talents have shown.
As for Tanev, he is good with Lowry in the bottom 6, but it ties Lowry down to a 4th line shutdown centre. Last year Lowry was 6th on the team in scoring per ice time. Think about all the offense the Jets had on that team and Lowry was outproducing most of everyone. Now he regressed this year, but I'm at least intrigued to see what Lowry could do with some skilled line-mates. Producing on a level, similar to Little, isn't terribly unrealistic. Armia, Copp, Appleton, Roslovic, and Little have all shown that they are flexible through the lineup and can play with different linemates and not drop off too much. (Except for Laine and Little.) Getting rid of Tanev makes the bottom six much, much more flexible and an extra .5K for Armia is completely worth it imo.
I am pretty ambivalent about trading a 2nd for Army. As of this moment we have one of the youngest rosters in the NHL. We have a stud defensive prospect in Samberg who is allegedly signing with us this summer, and the 1st round pick from the Sharks to pick up a RHD or another center. The only thing I'd actually use the 2nd for if we didn't use to get a player like Armia, is to trade up higher in the draft if possible.</div></div>
I was more talking regression in play not stats.
The though about Tanev makes sense but he is one of the only jets who put their stick down and drive to the net, which is very valuable for a center like Lowry who relies on that.
The issue I have with trading the 2nd is that 2020 is said to be a deep draft. Trading our 2nd will almost guarantee that we will have to trade our 1st if we were to make a rental, and that is something I do not think the jets should do in the 2020 draft
Honestly I like having discussions with you. You lay everything out unlike others who just state something that leaves you wondering

2019 Jets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheCelt</b></div><div>I like Buchnevich... a lot, but he doesn't really fit on the jets. Right now we have 5 wingers who should all play in the top 6 plus Roslovic, plus Bryan Little, plus Appleton, plus Vesalainen in this scenario. Instead you've got a 2mill 4th line winger. I don't mind trading Trouba, and the return is actually decent, but let's go get another pick (preferably a conditional 1st or 2nd on resign that becomes a 2nd or 3rd otherwise).
Also we're overpaying Beaulieu, and I really doubt Chiarot signs for that unless he wants to take a discount (which he might). I get Beau is taking a paycut at 2mill and that Buffalo sh*t the bed in his management, but the whole point of a good GM is that they take advantage of players at low value when they can. The guy has still only played 30 games up till this point, and has been riding the press box for a non-contender.</div></div>
We can trade Buch but i saw a similar trade with him coming here...we technically could flip him to somewhere else for a prospect/pick...NYR might not want to part with other picks or younger prospects is the thing

Making Hayes work NYI PIT fans
Pens say hell no. Replacing one cap dump for pretty much another one while retaining on JJ and giving up picks and our best prospect would be insane. We are essentially paying over 5 mil for the next couple years for Perreault. Thanks but no thanks. Plus JJ looks like he fits with Schultz. Has been playing some of the best hockey of his career since being paired with Schultz.

An in-depth look at a Winnipeg blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheCelt</b></div><div>Wouldn't do it for the 1st two reasons you put. Vesalainen is important since he'll help us through the Seattle draft with minimal losses.
Also the central is bad enough it's not worth throwing in extra chips this year when we stand to spread the gap even further in the future than the rest of the central. We have the 2nd youngest team in the league, and the rest of the powers in the NHL have realistically no shot at being this good this time next year with the exception of Calgary contingent upon getting a goalie (easier said than done.)
We can talk Kulikov cap dumps for picks and B prospects, and we can talk Staal rentals for picks and more B prospects, but it's not a the time to be going all in.</div></div>
Couldn't agree more. Granlund to Laine would be insane, though. It mainly depends on how desperate the Jets are to win this year, and I mainly just based this off the fact they are reported to be looking into getting Stone (which is an all-in move if you ask me). The wild card teams in the west are worse this year, but I'd argue the Sharks and the Flames will be very tough opponents in a series. Even Nashville has a solid team, although I'd take the Jets over them. And then you have to consider who the Eastern teams are for the cup. Tampa is absolutely ridiculous and if you asked me who would win that series with both current rosters, I'd take Tampa hands down.

I just think that everyone is overreacting in regards to Laine. He is and will continue to be an elite scorer in this league. Yes, he's had a rough time as of late, but he's 20 years old. I am not concerned. Also, not saying Kotkaniemi isn't a great player or anything haha, I just wouldn't do it.
