Might need something else coming Jets way.

I agree that, if Trouba for Draisaitl was going to work, it would work without Burmistrov, don't think it's wise to use the Hall-Larsson trade as a precedent. It's important to remember that the Oilers are not nearly as desperate for a young RHD as they were before they traded for Larsson, and that in this hypothetical, the Jets are also trading away Bryan Little and have acquired Justin Faulk (which would result in them having even less need for Trouba and much more need for a Center, although I think Perreault would suffice as a 2C), so the difference in leverage is not nearly so big as you describe. Crucially, Leon Draisaitl is probably worth more than Jacob Trouba right now; whereas Trouba is a 22-year-old who really struggled with his game last year and has become something of an uncertain commodity, Draisaitl is a 20-year-old who was scoring a point-per-game for half of last season. If anything, this trade favors Winnipeg.

I don't see how that's the case. The propose trade is a 28-year-old low-end 1C plus a 31-year-old Top 4 D-man (whose Cap hit and NMC reduce his trade value to almost zero, especially with the Expansion draft coming up) for a 24-year-old high-end #1 D-man on a fantastic contract.

I understand that the Jets don't really have a need for him, but if they got him at that price, I'd be jumping for joy. Hartnell may be getting up there in age, but he's been over 1.99 5v5 P/60 in each of the last two years, and in 5 of the last 6 seasons where he played at least 1000 5v5 minutes. That's really good production.

Carolina trade: With players Jordan Staal, Viktor Rask, Teuvo Teravainen, Elias Lindholm, Andrej Nestrasil, Jacob Slavin, Noah Hanifin, Brett Pesce, and Ron Hainsey, the Hurricanes' deepest positions are Center and Defenseman. They would not have nearly enough interest in a low-end 1C in Little (which, to be clear, means that he's on the lower end of legit 1Cs, not that he's a low-end Center playing on the 1st line) to trade Faulk (a high-end #1 D-man, the face of their franchise, and the most likely candidate to be their next captain) for Little and Enstrom (an aging 2nd pair D-man with a ghastly contract). Maybe the Jets could swing something involving Dano + Enstrom + [?] for Slavin.

Edmonton trade: If the Carolina trade happened, the Edmonton trade would make sense. I just don't think the Carolina trade would ever happen, unless Ron Francis suffers some sort of mental breakdown.

Columbus trade: This past season, Hartnell was only willing to waive his NMC for a handful of teams, and it was reported that Winnipeg (who play in a city with very harsh weather, have an especially taxing travel schedule, and drafted 2nd Overall in 2016) were one of the least-desired destinations around the NHL; I don't think Hartnell would waive his NMC to go to Winnipeg. Even if he would, the Blue Jackets would not trade him for a 22-year-old Bottom 6 C.

Montreal trade: Pretty good; I think the picks given up by Montreal are a little much, though. Maybe a 3rd and a 4th, or just a 2nd would be more appropriate.

Quoting: rollie1967

the Stamkos signing aside, I like the Hopkins for Ellis deal, as it helps both teams. Jarnrock would be a good 3rd liner, although Im thinking the Preds might not want to add that much salary.
I dont see the Eberle deal at all though, hes shown good chemistry with McDavid, so trading him is only slightly less likely than the Oil signing Stamkos. I doubt Ference returns to the Oil, could be bought out or buried. Another veteran dman ( Hamhuis/Russell/Demers?) is what they need more than anything.

This roster is just to see how a Stamkos to Edmonton scenario would play out; I felt they'd needed to clear Eberle's Cap to make that happen and not be screwed Cap-wise a couple years down the line. I suppose I could have added more to the Carolina side of the deal, but I felt was the framework of the trade was more important than the details.

I didn't buy out Ference because he's only got a year left on his contract, and the Oilers could afford it for this year. There wouldn't have been any point in buying him out and having the buyout on the books for the next couple seasons, since I could be done with it in one year just by not re-signing him. I didn't send him down because, IIRC, you aren't allowed to do that with NMCs. Plus, as you mentioned, the team could use some veteran leadership.

I didn't sign a guy like Hamhuis because he'd take up a roster spot on an already full Defense, taking playing time away from a young player. The target years for this team would be a couple years down the road, so I'd rather go with the young Defensemen and have them develop than sign a veteran to be good for right now.
