Offseason to make us a contender
Rangers want grit, but not at that salary. They could pick up someone like Clifford from St. Louis, who makes $1 million.

Chytil for Hertl
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>San Jose should consider it. Maybe another piece, but you are wasting him at 3c</div></div>
The lines are open to change, Hertl could easily end up with Panarin on his left. And long term I'd look to extend him and let Strome walk.
The Rangers have an overabundance of really good prospects on defense. Adding one of them would tip it the other way, but maybe Chytil and Robertson or Jones for Hertl and a 3rd.

You aren't getting dumba for a 1st, & 4th round pick much less wild adding greenway</div></div>
Rangers don't need Dumba with Trouba, Fox, and Lundquist and Schneider on the way. They don't need Greenway if he or Kravstov are going to be on the fourth line. And yet I'd still do the trade because it's so lopsided in the Rangers favor.

What would Blackwell cost
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aspina25</b></div><div>Blackwell has little value on the trade market and NY would never be able to get the value in a trade that he provides them on the ice. Just no scenario where teasing him makes sense</div></div>
Yeah, I would say a 3rd round pick would be "fair", but in reality, 3rd round picks rarely amount to anything. If the Rangers add another forward in the offseason, perhaps a "tough" guy, and really don't think Blackwell will find ice time it could make sense. But at his low salary he doesn't hurt you even as a healthy scratch most of the time.

That's fine except that last season Strome had 49 points and Rask had 23. And Rask didn't have a single point in the 7 game series loss to Vegas. It's more like Kaprizov did well in spite of Rask.

In my concept of the trade, Strome for Greenway favors Wild, especially since retention on Strome makes each a team pay 3.3 million. The Howden for Nico part favors the Rangers. Do the two parts combine to make it even? That's for smarter people than me to decide. But thanks for constructive input and not just saying "Wild hang up"

Big Yotes deal frees cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aecliptic</b></div><div>Well, by the same token theres plenty of Rangers homers that severely overvalue their prospects.
The reality of the situation is we simply dont have the cap space to keep what we want (namely Buch), make the necessary improvements and retain those key pieces in the 2022 off-season. Salary cap isnt going up for a few years, so we need to be smart about the acquisitions we make. If we have to overpay a bit to make it happen, then so be it.</div></div>
Also, the flat cap makes it hard to find takers for Strome and Buchnevich. Teams with space are mostly non-contenders who won't want players who they would have to re-sign in a year or two.

Engvall has the size the Rangers need, but he doesn't use it, does he? McDermott is okay but the Rangers have lots of young defensemen they need to look at. And then they have to replace Georgiev. So I don't think the value is bad, just that it's not a good fit, and I agree that they would decline.

I don't know what his plans are. This pretty much assumes that Florida thinks he's going to explore free agency and would probably happen at the deadline. I think the most likely scenario is that he signs long term with Florida, I was just wondering about what it would take to get him if he didn't.

As a Ranger fan I would say no, partly because of Dillon's contract being a little rich, partly because I love Jones, probably more than most people do. But the value isn't terrible, Dillon is good and shouldn't be just tossed aside like you say some fans want to do.

In theory I like the idea of either a Jones/Schneider pairing or Robertson/Lundqvist, because you get a mix of size and puck moving. But you have to see how they develop, work together, etc...

I like this, I'm just very torn on trading Jones. I think he's going to be really good. But there is a surplus on defense. I actually love the idea of a Jones/Schneider pairing. But what do you do with Lundqvist? Trade him as part of a package for an Eichel/Barkov type of player?
Anyway, from a Ranger point of view I like this and will absolutely steal some of these for my AGMs

Nobody will trade away a 2nd for Howden.</div></div>
The Howden trade is really a fairly early third for one of the last four picks in the second round. So moving up 10 or 12 spots.
I don't know what they can get for Strome because of his salary with the flat cap. I'm being ultra conservative here.
