trading Neal
fact is the Sens figure they can spend 5.25m better. kylington isn't worth 5.25m, so sens decline. teams don't like to carry dead meat on their roster long term. it's a cancer. I'm not implying that Neal is bad guy, but it just might be a bad long term contract.

They could just ignore some of the THIRTEEN contracts they have to negotiate - holy hell, that's a mess ain't it? But fair point - how's this? The Panthers would take one of those RFA contracts off the Jets' hands for a pick or two, they dip into their insanely deep pool of goalie prospects, and the Sharks can have Hoffman back :P</div></div>
other teams have cap issues too. to trade big cap to a team and not expecting any back, doesn't happen often. the teams that do have cap are usually non playoff team and they aren't giving up first picks for a one year rental. my jets are in a situation where they almost have to give away a few players to be cap compliant next year. Tampa, sharks and leafs are in the same situation trying to get rid of cap. there might be a bevy of average to good nhl players almost given away this summer to teams with lots of cap and need an NHL lineup.

Trading Nylander to Florida for the 13th Pick Overall
Florida should pay panarin 3m more than nylander and keep their pick and weeger. looking at this version of nylander, leafs are going to have trouble getting rid of his big cap.

Leafs are big time desperate if that's the return for 22yr old wonderboy Nylander...</div></div>
but isn't that exact situation the leafs are in. they need cap room and Nylander isn't playing to his 7m cap. might be to big an offer by Philly.

teams don't trade for high priced backup without trading 4.3m back to Florida. of all the teams to trade Hoffman to. a team with cap issues. getting rid of cap isn't that easy.

He needs to fire his agent if the suggestion is yes (even if it is state income tax free).
Looking at the history of % of salary cap, 11% of $82M salary cap would be around $9M AAV.
I don't see either signing for under $10M AAV unless it's a bridge deal (a la PK Subban) - but young stars have been moving away from those when they can leverage it (like Nylander).
It will be an interesting summer.</div></div>
yes it going to interesting. there seems to no "rules" now for signing rfas. for every overpaid one, you know some other players are going to get less than what they expected or even deserve.

believe you are correct. the other option is the jets have to offer an rfa at his current salary for one year or lose him as a ufa. so trouba could be offered a 5.5m contract and trouba just might take it as it gets him his ufa the following summer.

the trade doesn't solve the leafs cap problem, even if is fair trade. <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GrumpyOldMan</b></div><div>Recency bias.
Cap is going up. New contracts get done for more than comparable players signed a year ago.
Nylander is exhibit A.
I can see Brayden Point and Marner both taking the Matthews route of 5 years x $11M.
As for playmakers versus goal scorers - who is worth more: Draisaitl or McDavid? McDavid has fewer goals, but he's the one who drives play. Marner less than McDavid, and I know McDavid is a center, but wingers who drive play can get paid too.
$10.5 as a ceiling is funny. Draisaitl's AAV is $11.3M and that was 2 years ago.</div></div>
I don't understand much of your logic here. Marner might want compare his salary to Matthews but maybe the new contact of Carolina's Aho or Kuchervov would be better comparison. if you are comparing teammates Matthews and marner, shouldn't Tampa show Point the Kuchervov contract for the league's best player. Kucherov makes 9.5m next season, so shouldn't Point get 6.5m, if you're comparing teammates

jets probably like that deal due to fact that trouba is a ufa in a year. it's an overpayment for trouba anyway. trouba might not sign it, worried that the jets would match.

another post that using the 2018-2019 roster, so it's almost useless cap wise. leafs would be far above the 83m. leafs really overpay for a one year rental, their best prospect, a good nhl right wing with five years of nhl contract and a second rounder. kadri and bozak could be considered of of equal value

Philly Needs a GoalieRHD and LW
flyers do have cap space, so they might be looking at ufa, instead of trading for help, and giving up futures. I look at the teams that need cap relief next season, and modest veteran such as perrault might be had at a very small price.

Nylander Realistic Trade Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>to teams that need to hit the floor of the cap, Zaitsev can be traded to without Toronto taking back any cap. At most, they take back lower end contracts that can be buried in the minors and not affect the cap still (teams can bury up to $1.075M next season). Duszak was one of the highest scoring NCAA players this season and reports were that he wanted to sign with a team that would give him a shot at making the NHL immediately. Can't see why he'd sign with Toronto if that's not what they give him. They can easily start the season with him, see how it does and evaluate from there. Veteran guys on a league minimum deal can replace him and still not affect the cap situation. Actually, the defence looks better without Zaitsev. Duszak can actually make a breakout pass and get out of the zone. Zaitsev struggles at it. Plus Duszak has a lower cap hit than Zaitsev allowing Toronto to keep their actual important core players. Don't bash comments just cause you hate the Leafs. Zaitsev is moveable. Teams have been able to move bad contracts in the past. Hell, people said that David Clarkson was an "immovable bad contract" from Toronto, they found a way to move him. They can find a way to move a Zaitsev type contract.</div></div>
what stupid comparison, the Clarkson contract. of course duszak would sign with the team that gives him an opportunity, doesn't mean at all that he is nhl good and ready in October. sure it's easy to get someone to play in zaitsev place at a lower cap, getting someone good enough is the difficulty
how to does anyone know that the leafs defence looks better without zaistsev. he plays twenty minutes a night. certainly I'm not bashing the leafs as you think, I'm bashing an improbable lineup that makes the leafs worse.

As far as I know, the NMC from his contract changes to M-NTC just after the expansion draft...not to mention that as a player and as a contract, he completely sucks.
you're above statement is not true. a player has the right to waive his nmc for the expansion draft and for the expansion draft only.. lucic would 99% waive the clause, because he it would allow his team, the oilers to retain another player and be stronger.
getting back to the original trade. Lucic isn't waiving his clause for ottawa. teams don't want dead money for years on their roster. there are plenty of teams who want to dump cap which include good NHL veterans. players like lucic stay with his current team.</div></div>

you just confirmed what I wrote that it doesn't work. trading a zaitsev without taking any cap back in return. expecting an unheralded pro rookie from a smaller NCAA program to be able to play in the top six. the defence is worse without zaitsev. all those just to justify not trading a high cap forward. leafs have ample replacements at wing to replace six goal scorer Nylander. sure you can make all kinds of trades to make the leafs to attain 83m. its how to make the team better or not worse when doing so.

Zaitsev can easily be moved for a late round pick and not have any player or cap coming back. So can Brown</div></div>
u never entered it in a 2019-2020 roster, because it doesn't really work. some leafs fans just don't believe the some leafs are going to having to trades for prospect.
