You could make the argument the reason they were so locked in defensively was because they were playing in the avs d-zone most of the time.

Blow it Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>If the Blues can play the way they did in that second half of that game as well as Game 2, they can pull this off. Consistency is the problem. Even though his save % was still below .900, Husso has a lot of reasons to be confident after this game.</div></div>
Only way to maintain that level of play over the next two games is to continue to get depth scoring.

Something else to ponder. Avs up 3-0 in period with long change, down 2-0 when not.

Game 1 vs Avs Do we have a chance
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tstrauss16</b></div><div>You sure Krug is out that long?</div></div>
I read it was a grade 2 MCL tear. Recovery time is anywhere from 2-4 weeks. I have not seen any reports of needing surgery but he also hasn't skated at all, so who knows. He is traveling with team for "rehab purposes" whatever that means. Have to think the past 4 days off really helped Leddy/Bortuzzo/Schenn recover from some lingering injuries. I don't know how physical this series is going to be, i feel like both teams will use speed to generate offense rather than physicality, something we saw with the Wild (at least with the GREEF line). I'm sure there will be some solid hits throughout the series but as we saw with Nashville, you can't look for hitting first against colorado, cause as soon as you are out of position they will most likely score. Bottom line is we will need everyone throughout the series..

Bring on the Avs baby
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>Blues need to be better defensively if they want any shot at beating the Avs. Luckily for the Blues the Wild only had one guy who was actually dangerous with the puck every time he touched it. There's a lot more to worry about with Avs.</div></div>
I thought we were ok defensively given injuries. I think we allowed 1 5v5 goal the last two games. Binners puck handling was a huge difference maker, really nullified any forecheck of the wilds, going to be equally as important vs. avs.

I doubt we see Krug back this series unfortunately. I’m not sure how we contain makar. Forwards stack up well for both sides. Winning in 6 is huge. Gives us time to rest and nurse some injuries. IMO only way we make this a series is if the orielly line evens out the mackinon line and Robert Thomas and buchy explode. Tall order but we should be very confident after handling an excellent wild team. Just some early thoughts.

Lets be honest
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>Just my thoughts, but I could easily see Minny potentially taking a step back next year if they are forced to move Dumba/Fiala. St Louis made it based on unsustainable goaltending numbers by Husso, who is far less likely to replicate those than guys like Duchene/Josi. Dallas will lose Klingberg, and were the only team to make the playoffs with a negative goal differential. Winnipeg rebounding would be pretty surprising as well, but who knows.
As a fan of a Pacific division team who was absolutely attrocious to watch this year, getting into that 5-10 range is hilariously difficult. Anaheim was brutal for 3/4's of the season, and still ended up sitting at 10OA. I just think your goaltending and defence are too good to think that you won't at least be in the fight for the wildcard...not saying you get in, but the roster above will still be a lot better than a lot of teams.</div></div>
Umm STL made it because of nine 20 goal scorers and incredible special teams not unsustainable goaltending...

Fair enough. Looks like Joshua is in tonight over Walker. I expect to see some body bags on the sidelines.

Blues lines Game 3 adding more grit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chopper02</b></div><div>Grit wins you championships, especially when you're playing a team like Minnesota. It wasn't the only problem, but they do get pushed around. We need defense, yes, but grit is also vital. Have to beat down the opponents players. That's why we won in 2019.</div></div>
The added physical value of Joshua over Walker is not the difference between us winning the cup and losing 6-2. Would I like to crack a couple more heads out there, sure, but not at the cost of being out of position. It has been a weird series so far, tbh i thought minny played significantly better than us 5v5 game 1 and lost because we just had great special teams play and timely saves. Game 2 we dominated 5v5 play but lost because of a couple early special teams goal and Flower made some big saves. These teams are so close, a post here, a broken stick there or a missed call can change the game. I don't think we are that far off from our 2019 team physically speaking, we just have more offensive firepower so we might as well play to that strength. All that being said, the goalie that make the timelier saves will win the series imo. Tonight should be a fun one, I will be the lunatic in 108 screaming obscenities at every Wild player.

Colt was a tough one. Probably should be ranked higher now he has Leddy as a partner and not Scandella. Buchy should be a A too now i think about it.

RW is a B rating. He was insane the first half of the year and then fell of a cliff to a point where he was scratched second half. Still an awesome year when looking at the entire body of work. If anything we should give Doug Armstrong an A for some of the contracts.

I think the 4th line will be Toropchenko, Joshua, Walker - if not game 1 then by game 2. Need to match the physicality and i dont think Brown or Bozak can.

Deep group. Should be a heavy series vs STL. It's nice look at how lines would potentially match up. I've always thought that checking line was one of the best in the league.

At most maybe 3.5 for Husso. Honestly only way i see Husso staying is if we move binner which i don't see happening either. A lot depends on playoff performance by both guys. Also think we can get perron for 2-2.5. That leaves us with enough cap space to go after a top4 LHD (assuming we move scandellas contract). Should be a relatively quiet offseason given the following offseason will be crazy.

We need to save every penny for 2023/24 and this much for Nichushkin would not help. I think there would be riots on Market street if DP57 was not brought back. Husso for 2mil would be a steal.

That is true, I didn't realize LAK are only up 2pts on Vegas. Add that to the list of close races to finish the year. CGY/EDM would be a great series, the battle of Alberta if I'm not mistaken. Would probably take the over most games.

Best West Matchups
Trying to figure out who I want to play first round. Obviously there's a very high chance it's the Wild but you never know. Not even really thinking about it in terms of who we would have the best chances against (all match-ups are difficult) but what other matchups would be equally as heavy/physical/close.
A couple first round match-ups that would be solid to watch (assuming EDM/LAK are locked in)
*COL/VGK - STL/MIN - CGY/NSH (VGK jumps DAL for WC2 - Each would be really really physical, especially that CGY/NSH - Also a fairly likely outcome)
*COL/NSH - CGY/VGK - STL/MIN (Vegas would really have to turn it on and hope NSH and DAL drop)
*COL/MIN - STL/NSH - CGY/DAL (MIN would have to cliffdive in the standings but these would all be great series, I can only imagine how rough the MIN/COL series would be)
*COL/DAL - MIN/NSH - CGY/STL (We'd have to drop a bit and NSH take our spot - wouldn't shock me necessarily)
I think regardless how of things shake out, its gonna be close till the very end, with seeding probably coming down to a point or two.

Very true. Question is does he want to move again at 35 with a family and kids to a different state/country for a fourth time just for a little more aav on a short term contract? the city of stl has a weird way of keeping older/retired players around. 2mil is probably too shallow tho, i could see him staying put for 3ish
